Fall of the Gods is at just over 25,000 words. I'm estimating the draft is about a quarter finished. This might end up being one of the longest books I've written since I had a contract with Kensington for the mass market paperbacks. The contracts for those first three books stipulated manuscripts of at least 100,000 words. My longest book was Evil Harvest, clocking in at 163,000 words.

Prepping for the Buffalo Horror Garage Sale next month at the Marriott in Amherst, NY (October 9th, 10th & 11th). I'm putting together four unique book bundles (A slasher bundle, a vampire bundle, a dark fantasy bundle, and a thriller bundle with the Project Artemis books). In addition to multiple books in the bundles, I'll be including prints of my artwork with themes and characters based on the books.

For Gods In The Valley, I wanted to write a story that combined a post-apocalyptic tale with elements of unknown entities that lurk in a darkness that sweeps over the earth. If Gods In The Valley were a novel, I would've used multiple viewpoints and focused parts of the story on the nation and the world's response to the Roaming Darkness pheonomenon.

I'm putting the finishing touches on a post-apocalyptic novella filled with cosmic horrors. Gods In The Valley has been edited and proofread, and I finished up the formatting this morning. I didn't have a concrete idea in mind when I began writing, only that I wanted to write something that combined a post-apocalyptic setting with cosmic monstrosities. I knew I wanted the story to focus on a small group of characters with mentions of the end of the world at large and the events that brought it about.

When our kids were little, we took quite a few trips to New York State Parks. Renting a cabin for a week (or weekend) was fairly inexpensive, and the NY State parks had options for handicapped accessible cabins for our son. In addition to the beauty of the park systems, they provided inspiration for some of my novels. The island vacation spot in No Escape was inspired by Robert Moses State Park in the Thousand Islands, and the cabin setting of The Hollow was largely based on a combination of Alleghany and Letchworth State Parks.

I'm on vacation from the day job this week, and I'm pressing to get a big chunk of this horror novella I'm working on finished. I'm closing in on 17,000 words. I like to shoot for a 30,000-word length for most novellas. Of course, the final word count could be more or less by the time I'm done. I'm using chapter titles for this one, something I don't think I've done since writing No Escape.

Kingdom of Ash, the second book in the Cart The Soulless series, is out in the wild. The second book follows the exploits of the ever-grumpy and violent Cart The Soulless. Cart was resurrected by the very goddess he was tasked with slaying and sent on a mission in Risen In Flame. Now, in Kingdom of Ash, Cart is back in the service of his home nation, Isilbane, and the Western Realms are teetering on the edge of war between gods and rival kingdoms.

I recently wrapped up the second book in the Cart The Soulless Series, entitled Kingdom of Ash. I started the series with a hint of a character. I knew I wanted a legendary warrior-type figure who was gruff and bad-ass, but who also had honor and heart as part of his makeup. I had a name in mind: Cart The Soulless.

I've always been an early riser, and this morning was no exception. I went to bed fairly early last night and woke up around five a.m. Laid there for a bit and realized I wasn't going back to sleep, so I brewed some coffee and decided to do some writing. I've always been more of a morning/early afternoon writer. More often than not, if I wait until evening, there's a good chance I'm not writing.

I've participated in the Goodreads Reading Challenge for the past 4-5 years. Last year I read 41 books, above my goal of 30 for the year. I don't think reading should be viewed as a competition, nor should we be racing through books just to reach a predetermined goal, but I find the challenge nudges me to read a bit more each day.

Risen In Flame is showing up in online retail spaces. As I've said before, I've had ideas for fantasy series kicking around in my head for years. I grew up reading fantasy, watching fantasy movies, and playing RPG video games. The idea for Risen In Flame started with a character, that character being Cart The Soulless, a warrior trained from childhood to be part of the Order of the Soulless.

I'm writing this post at an inn that overlooks Lake Cayuga. It's an overcast fall morning, forty-seven degrees, nice and crisp. My wife and I are on an early anniversary trip up in the Finger Lakes. Our son is housesitting back home for us. He enjoys having the place to himself and is having some friends over for a Halloween party this evening.

I designed the wraparound cover for the paperback version of Risen In Flame, the first book in my Cart the Soulless fantasy series. Proofs arrived last week from the printer and everything looks good (also did a hardcover version). I'll be launching this as a Kickstarter fairly soon. I also did two character drawings (of which I'll be offering prints on a reward tier for the Kickstarter).
