Our preprint on the Faraday rotation of chiral organic polymer films is out! Wonderful collaboration with Tim Swager and his group @mitchemistry.bsky.social and Jess Wade. @oxfordchemistry.bsky.social. #Chemsky 🧪 #Physics doi.org/10.26434/che... We learnt a lot in this one, so here's a short 🧵 1/11

When is a Lattice Not a Lattice? The changing meaning of the term lattice in crystallography and physics
The concept of the lattice is central to the understanding of crystalline solids. However, usage of this word can very often differ between crystallographers, f

Next up... XPS themed biscuits for my visit to Harwell 🤓🍪🧪 #Chemsky
Giant biscuit in the centre shaped as an XPS spectrometer. Square shaped biscuits designed as the harwellxps logo and small circle shaped biscuits designed as electrons around it. The biscuits are brown decorated with blue, green, white and black icing. Two square shaped biscuits with the harwell xps logo. Both are blue and green in the background. The left one has the logo design in black while the right one has it in white

Learn how to chop onions more comfortably, brown onions more quickly, slow fruit browning, and make creamy nacho sauce easily: cen.acs.org/food/food-sc... #PeriodicGraphics #chemsky #bluesci 🧪
Infographic detailing the chemistry behind four kitchen chemistry hacks. The first is slowing fruit browning. Fruits brown due to the oxidation and polymerization of phenols. Adding acids, such as lemon juice, wrapping the fruit in cling film or otherwise blocking oxygen slows browning by reducing the activity of the polyphenol oxidase enzyme.

Previous years of chemistry themed biscuits for my research group/collaborators. Any ideas for what to do this year?? #chemsky
Chemistry themed biscuits in the shapes of beakers, conical flasks and benzene in different colours (red, green and blue).Personalised chemistry themed biscuits for members of my research lab. The biscuits are all cut in square shapes and are decorated in purple, green and red icing. A lot of them have different chemical structures of organic molecules drawn on them.Chemistry themed biscuits in the shape of benzene arranged to make two helicenes that are mirror images of each other. Chocolate biscuits with white icing to draw the double bonds.Chemistry themed biscuits in the shape of lab coats each personalised with names of members in my research group and chemistry related inside jokes.

So happy to be on this platform away from dogma and intolerance.... My only worry, what if the crystallographers follow us?!? 🤣 (Just joking, all blue skies from here...)
