They studied a Roald Dahl short story in English class involving cyanide poisoning and then later that day we got a concerned call from the school counselor about our daughter googling “how long does cyanide take to kill you” on her Chromebook. They were unimpressed by my wife laughing.

How does the debugger know exactly which Swift module your code came from? The upcoming Swift 6.4 release makes it more precise than ever, tracking the module path in debug info instead of looking it up by name, for faster and more reliable debugging. www.swift.org/blog/module-...

But enough about Europe's approach to the Trump administration, what are we going to do about Iran?
A snippet from the Bessent op-ed on the FT's signature salmon background. It reads "In short, these countries calculate appeasement of the regime to be the safer course. But they would do well to consider the consequences of sustaining it."

Whenever someone says we should make some changes while the strategic rewrite is still pending.

This is, after all, the conservative answer to saying taxes should be higher. "You can pay more tax than you owe when you file, why not do that, I don't have to". And so goes choosing to not vote.

The original TT interpreter of course had manual bounds checks – but just like it's easy to forget those, they're also easy to duplicate in hard to track down ways. One of the reasons the Swift rewrite is faster is that Swift guarantees those checks, then is good at eliminating its own checks.

Ben Cohen @airspeedswift.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
What makes interpreters a pain in the^W^W^W interesting challenge for safety and performance is they defeat lots of tricks compilers can pull to mitigate the cost safety e.g. if the program you're interpreting is what runs the loop indexing into the array, you can't statically hoist those checks.
