I decided to take a long (at least a week, probably longer) break from fedi. The reason for this is simple, I know the world sucks, you know the world sucks, we all know the world sucks, and social media is honestly not helping me. Where commercial platforms are definitely more toxic, fedi just […]

A bad habit I have is that I will think slightly less of adults wearing baseball caps when they are not actually playing baseball. This habit has definitely not improved since the red baseball cap became part of the modern US fascist uniform. I just find them so ill fitting on adults that it […]

@zzt this sounds weirdly similar to the "my pronouns are attack helicopter" jokes that bigots use. As in, it's not funny, unoriginal, and we're probably going to hear it a lot more in the future.

If software "engineering" failures were as spectacular and obvious as failures in other engineering sectors, we would have some fucking standards, and stuff like vibe coding would never have gotten any traction whatsoever.

@quixoticgeek Depends on how detailed you want it, but if it's just about the money, Berlin (my area) could just give less money to car subsidies and redirect that to free transit. Car use is heavily subsidized here.

I've been in tech for 15 years, mostly building distributed & cloud infra automation tools and using them in cloud environments. I've done a mix of full-stack web dev, and SRE/Platform engineering, mostly in Go or Rust. I also had stints in media streaming and infosec.
