A beautiful sunny day made the perfect setting for our annual AIML Community Day at Thorndon Park last weekend. It was wonderful to have so many AIML staff, students, and their families come together and enjoy the great weather, a BBQ, ice cream, face painting, and even a spirited game of Finska.

This week, AIML hosted the first Responsible AI Impact Challenge (RAIIC) Showcase, an initiative of the RAIR Centre. The Showcase brought together primary (Year 6) and secondary (Years 7-9) students to address the ethical risks of AI as well as the role of human judgement in responsible AI use.

Last week, AIML Machine Learning Engineer Sam Hodge, gave a talk at Rising Sun Pictures in Adelaide on the incredible progress made on producing animated movies. The talk, entitled "From Pen and Ink to Dancing Cats: A Century of Creature Animation," covered the '12 principles of animation.'

AIML researchers helped lead the AI and Sustainable Futures in the Indo-Pacific Conference at Adelaide University on 23 June. Co-organised with CNRS and IRL CROSSING, the event explored climate action, energy-efficient AI, human-AI teaming, robotics, and France-Australia research collaboration.

On 17 June, AIML welcomed 30 senior leaders to Adelaide, including former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and former Australia Post CEO Christine Holgate. At AIML, the group heard from Dr Kathy Nicholson on South Australia's AI ecosystem and AIML’s work advancing AI research and innovation.
