A bus hijacker with a knife starts toying with his captives, demanding that they provide an answer for why they believe killing is wrong. Totonou takes him up on the thought exercise, going on a nine page & counting monologue about the ethics of killing that makes the hijacker regret he ever asked.

From right to left: the hijacker wide-eyed listening to murder special interest armchair detective have a one-sided debate on the ethics of killing, Totonou goes for another "that said..." digression, and the hijacker screams JESUS! THERE'S MORE?!

Awkward lettering, moire issues. It doesn’t look like it was done in-house with viz and probably through an agency. I was hopeful if it’d do well on the app they’d do a print run but they’d have to completely redo these books and it all seems to be outsourced.

It’s so hit and miss now that reedpop has taken over. They’ve become increasingly unfriendly to local artists and more focused on pop culture tv and movie stuff. I haven’t gone now in years because of it.

I get pissed everytime they announce something I wanted licnesed. They’ve gotten several Shojo/josei titles I’ve desperately wanted to see at other pubs.

The older hobb book audiobooks are really hard to get into with slower paced, sometimes monotone readers. It wasn’t just her books but just audiobooks of the time. I hope the older books get new audiobook editions someday.

Depending on if you count flipped and relettered as separate (I don’t think the translation changed) magic knight Rayearth is also up there at four because it was also an old flipped tokyopop title that was relettered unflipped.

120

Aila @aila.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Well I don’t remember if the cardcaptor Sakura went through distinct translations with tokyopop now, it’s been so long. For floppies and mixx they were flipped and I want to say used dub names. I feel like they dropped that for the unflipped line tho.

120

Aila @aila.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Sailor moon is up there with at least three. Barefoot gen might be the most tho I’m unclear about all the earlier releases, and they weren’t complete. Major clamp titles have had at least three. Cardcaptor Sakura went through at least two with tokyopop, so with dark horse and kodansha, 4.

Ugh. Got the sequel to a sci-fi monster guy book which I enjoyed the first volume of, but they've gone full blown porn now for the sequel and I am so bored. I wanna go back to the plot please.

I went screw it, and ordered a set of the UK hardcovers cause I love those covers. They aren't the fancy broken binding editions but they're still nice. Looks like I did it in time too cause the first book hardcover is hard to find.
