Back in the day you could make very interesting arguments for where the rebuilds were going with their story. Now that they're done and having the full picture I think it's easy to see why people might be disillusioned with them or the portrayal of characters. (I still enjoy parts of rebuild)

since you haven't watched 3.0+1.0 I won't go into details but she is as much of a character as (or less than) everyone else in the rebuilds, with a promising start in 2.X and then....

If anything prime 4 failing while this was in development justifies this game getting extra attention, since they would want the next metroid game to make up (attention and reception wise) for prime 4's shortcomings

Ooh wow that makes its inclusion in ultimate a lot more understandable, thanks for the correction!

IMO the air riders example doesn't work that well considering kirby has had that as a final smash since brawl and air riders is also a sakurai game, so it's probably mostly self referential in that way and not a greater franchise decision.

My random pull wish for the new kirby is that the animal friends + adeleine are characters in the world that you can see hanging around and that you can interact with in some way.

i don't go there but i think people would've been more onboard with the Ocarina of Time remake looking Like That about ten years ago with it looking like that Wii U tech demobut unfortunately we live in a post-Unreal Engine Fan Demo, post-AI, post-DLSS5 world. our sensibilities have changed so much

one last zelda thing: every map looks like the same layout so there’s literally nothing gained by adding a jump button bc the game isn’t designed for it. thoughtless nonsense.

I've only played yoshi('s demo) on handheld and it looked terrible it's also definitely more of a full of objects game than a full of graphics game

People get SO worked up about layoffs in the games industry, but now that Nintendo hired that man everyone’s upset? Hypocritical much?

It's also a great time for smash to reinvent itself now that they have ultimate available in the same console, it could be part of passing the torch too, where the game turns into less of a 100% sakurai authorial vision and becomes more of a shared creation with whoever sakurai has as his successor
000
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I agree nintendo wouldn't replace sakurai out of nowhere like that, but this could actually be his last smash and his way of passing the torch to the next generation, because it seems very unlikely he'd be doing more smash in 10 years imo

Ohh! It's gonna be NVL, that's awesome! There's something really special about vns that use it instead of textboxes... By the way I was wondering, is this gonna be a linear story or have multiple routes / endings?

i'm still curious of other people's perspectives on this and the projects i mentioned, but i think i understand how i feel about this better now
000
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
after thinking about it for a while longer I've come to the conclusion that my problem with this practice stems from a fundamental lack of human component and, while i can appreciate the utilitarian and "magic trick" value, what we lose in humanity makes me repulsed for these kinds of projects.
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
ironically having said all this, it reads like "[project lead] has a terrible ideology and is funding said terrible ideology, even tho the thing they make does something that benefits you" and in that case i know i would move on from the project and adapt, but it does feel different with ai
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
so do you propose a hard line on anything ai because it's ai? maybe this is what i'm trying to get at... is there inherently no value, because the project is ai made/assisted? even if from a utilitarian perspective it ends up solving a problem? not playing devils advocate, I wonder it myself.

Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
and this is assuming the tool is open source! they used to not always be open source!
000
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
if someone abandoned a tool 10 years ago and said tool is usable but not good or great, it's essentially the same as a genie in the lamp [AI] manifesting a new tool that does the exact same and noone knows how it works, is unmaintainable and in license hell
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I'm not trying to argue in favour of ai being the new "it's good enough so it'll do", I don't like it at all, but I wonder if it's any worse than those cases, because sometimes it gets the ball rolling and other times it's exactly the same,
200
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
yes, these are issues that have already happened for decades with several types of programs. In my personal experience i've pointed out modding tools because I've seen communities that have terrible tools made by someone years ago, with no replacement until someone else steps in, who knows when
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I agree that this is an issue and i've seen it firsthand multiple times, i've also mentioned it in another thread, but I end up wondering if in the end it matters at all, since people use the bad solution regardless of shortcomings UNLESS a better one comes around, and otherwise there's no solution
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I want to add tho, that i know that a LOT of times this isn't the case, and i've seen countless (modding) communities rely on abysmal tools or workflows because the one guy who could program made them 10-20 years ago, and AI programs may end up similarly "we have an OK tool/emu, why make a new one?"
030
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
And sadly at this point in time it also seems to have inspired actual human efforts to port some of the emulators, so in a similar situation to "say something wrong in the internet if you want to get the proper answer" you end up with AI projects leading people into making better human alternatives.
120
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I agree with you, but I think that's part of the point in these cases, they're filling a niche, even if there's overlap in options, even if they're just OK. I feel like part of the problem is how clout-driven lots of these projects are, but I wonder how negative they really are otherwise.
110
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
While I imagine the code quality might be lacking, these emulators *do* fill a hole, the scene didn't have these natively. You had to install linux/android and use those instead... Do you think there's value in this? They feel offputting to me, but i can't help but see them as positive works?

Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
Hi, I fundamentally and generally agree with your writeup, and I was wondering if you are familiar with what's currently happening in the switch scene, with a LOT of miracle emulators suddenly happening due to a long string of ai related works "allowing" these projects to get ported. +

Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
Also apparently deep cut aren't explored much as a group and more so individually but they remain flat characters from what i've seen splatoon people say around here

I'm on the same camp and all i've seen gives me big salmon run + side order vibes gameplay wise, so if you don't enjoy salmon run and/or side order it's probably not for you If you did enjoy side order i'm not quite sure what this offers besides the gadgets and more enemy variety

Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
If it wasn't for the gameplay additions in these upgrades, they would be seen as nothing more than quick cash grabs. I really wish nintendo would do better because it's unbelievable they're selling them like this... The switch 2 is powerful enough to do much better... so what's the holdup?
140
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
The biggest reason is probably because nostalgia sells, and "prettifying" old games makes them pass as new, so they *potentially* (supposedly) can appeal to a modern audience This goes for gameplay too Either way I would rather see new games too, especially with how long dev times are
000
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
There is an argument to be made that since most teams have changed a lot since the original releases, a remake is a way to have everyone in the team (newbies and seniors) on the same page about what the game is supposed to *be* like. I agree it'd be more worthwhile if they focused on new entries tho
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
to add to the UI/X point, there's not as many quality of life features as more modern emulators, like prettier rom display or the ability to load mods without needing to patch the game yourself, the input mapping is also not as good, compared to something like yuzu/rpcs3 where you see the controller
000
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
Emulator ui/xs aren't as good as other more modern console emulators, sometimes not even as good as other contemporary consoles Reliance on plugins and old emulators that were just good enough for the longest time Too many plugin and emulator options, with no clear winner besides maybe Ares

so it basically only needs to be online to add the game to your menu once the card is inserted but not necessarily to download the game data?
120
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
There's concerns for both as far as i'm aware. A big example early on was star wars outlaws bsky.app/profile/cubu... the game is 19.4 gb so in that case file size wasnt an issue. Even for massive games like ff7r I wonder if they would have ran into card speed issues too tho, making them a no-go
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
the main point of these kinds of cards would be to bypass the slower speeds that cartridges are known to have over micro sd express or internal storage, while being entirely download-free, unlike key cards which fully rely on having a connection to download the game
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
of the installable card? it acting as a key to play the game would be a byproduct of the game being installable, since nintendo wouldn't want to give us the ability to install games from cartridges with 0 checks in place, since that would lead to people installing and then sharing the card
100
Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
this explains why they went with this system and not something more consumer / internet friendly like the entire game being in the card and then getting installed into the console (from the card) and requiring the card as a key to play it. I'm curious though, where did you get this information from?

Aigis @aigissilly.bsky.social · 11/07/2026
considering what happened to mario maker on the wii u i think it's safe to assume and go into the game expecting that any content made will eventually be unavailable officially when the servers inevitably shut down. (mario maker is the closest example since it was entirely user generated content)
