Azolan is fresh out of jail and getting held up in an ally because he weered off the main street for smelling food. He’s not too worried about it, though. It’s a big ass gun held by a cybered up punk but Azolan has just survived a 6 year prison sentence after being shot in the head by his girlfriend

Head shot Space pirates, more than most criminals, are obsessed with large calibre weapons but it only takes a .22 to kill you. The bullet I took to the back of my head that ran right through my brain and exited by blowing out my left eye was a .35. It didn’t kill me though, well, obviously, or I wouldn’t be talking to you. This is the story of what happened because of that.

”Dolphin infested waters” by yours truly…

As she giggled, I didn’t know if I was supposed to get offended or not. I just knew I needed to get out of the water really soon. “I couldn’t drown if I tried.” she said. And then the most remarkable thing happened. She seemed to arch forward a little and swam harder with her arms and just like that, I was standing on something. Something fairly wide, steady but soft. I looked down. I was standing on a large fishtail. Her fishtail. The scales were silvery blue with hints at green and specks of pink, a bluer hue of iridescent, so to speak. The fin was a pale blue and large, looking as soft as silk, with long whiskers along the sides. My brain refused to cooperate at first. Then I found my voice. And of course, I said the dumbest, most obvious thing, as humans tend to do. “You… you’re a mermaid?” She just nodded and giggled. And then she swam me to shore. Don’t look at me like that. I haven’t even begun to tell you the proper story yet.

He drains his coffee mug and refills it from the pot. -You said yesterday you’ve dreamed. Why didn’t you say so before? -Didn’t think you knew anything about vampires. I mutter defensively. He shrugs his shoulders. -More than I did yesterday. I did some research today. For purely egoistic reasons so don’t worry. I hate it when I encounter shit I know nothing about. I wait. He gives me a strict look and his voice take on a lecturing note. -Vampires are close to the realm of the dead, since they’re technically dead. Do you follow me? -Mf. I feel a little affronted as per usual to almost being called a zombie but fine. He’s not lying, really. The Sinner continues. -As the wandering dead closes up on the realm of the dead anew, Morpheus,

the god of dreams, usually sends them a greeting from the underworld. -Stop, stop. Who? What? He takes a new sip of coffee and waves an index finger at me. -Forget it, I don’t have time for the long lecture. You’ll have to take it for what it is. Annoyed as hell I nod, clenching my teeth. -Go on, then. -Morpheus’s kingdom lies between death and life. When a vampire draws near death, Morpheus opens two windows to his kingdom. One to the land of the living and one to the land of the dead. And thus he lets the vampire gaze though the windows: life- dream- death. I swallow a hundred and fifty questions of what-the-hell and how-the-hell. -Why? -Who knows? There are theories that he wants to welcome them, warn them or is just gloating. -What religion is this? How did you- -I said no. I’ve got run.

David, come on in, you look terrible.” After giving me half a hug he stuck a beer in my hand and then took it again and stuck a Cubic cola there instead. “Are we too loud? We just had someone’s very impolite date here telling us to shut down or else. Called me a fat tranny. Rude.” “Tranny? Yikes, what did you do?” “I shook his hand and told him “May the peace of God be with you”. I gave him lactose intolerance with that handshake. Never upset an angel.” I flinched a little. I’ve got a mild gluten intolerance and it’s not as fun as it’s cracked up to be. Lactose intolerance is supposed to be just as bad or worse and it of course never goes away. Goodbye ice-cream, regular lattes and whipped cream, hello replacement dairy that is at least twice the cost and usually half the taste. I didn’t pity the man, though, but I did flinch.

Format: Kindle
Alright, where to start! The formatting is going to be slightly jarring at first, as my brain tried to nitpick exactly when a new paragraph would have theoretically started but within about three pages , my brain got used to it and didn't even bother me anymore.

The dialog is written a little bit different, but it's consistent and easy to follow, kind of like computer code a little bit. But I found myself liking it more than authors that try to shoehorn in dialog context for the sake of dialog context. It's also very fitting for the type of story and character the POV is from.

The story is absolutely great for a cyberpunk book. I won't spoil any of it, but I've been reading cyberpunk my whole life and this was like a big comfy blanket. It made me want to open my entire catalogue of Shadowrun novels and re-read it all. It had cybered up street samurai, and hackers galore. And seedy pubs and shops to buy cyberware goodies at. It had everything. I binged the last half of the book as fast as I could, and would have happily read 10 more after this. It was that good.

Easily some of the best cyberpunk I've ever read, by far. Nails everything perfectly. I don't want to go into details cuz it'd spoil, but every point is nailed perfectly. Highly recommend.

Some cats will not drink where they eat. This is a relic behavior from when they were wild and a dead animal near the water hole meant bad water. Lucy is one of them and because we live tiny, her water hole is in the nook between the washing machine and the wall. She drinks while guarding it. Sweet❤️
