We had fun celebrating the opening of Legacy Barber College here in the Fourth Ward! Supporting small businesses and accessible education creates real workforce pathways for our neighbors. Barbershops are essential community spaces where culture, trust, and entrepreneurship thrive. Welcome!

I am no stranger to guest speaking, but it was a first to lecture alongside my wife, Ena, on our public service careers! As alumni of the University of Michigan Global Scholars Program, returning to speak to current students together made it especially meaningful. Go Blue!

I was inspired by the energy at Ann Arbor’s Choice Event with @ppofmi.bsky.social! Protecting reproductive freedom and access to healthcare is essential to our city's future. I am proud to stand with advocates fighting every day to defend our rights.

I was thrilled to tailgate with the University of Michigan College Democrats! It’s so fun connecting with students whose energy, passion, and votes will drive this election. As young leaders, we are actively shaping the future instead of waiting to inherit it. Go Blue!

Officiating Caleb and Kaitlin’s wedding was an unforgettable honor! Watching the foundation of their love grow over the years has been a true delight. There is simply nothing better than a Michigan wedding in the fall!

I have proudly endorsed Proposal 2! This proposal would prohibit regulated utilities like DTE and major government contractors from buying political influence. Keeping dark money out of politics is essential for honest governance. Vote YES in November!

I was honored to keynote for the inaugural Future Alumni of Michigan cohort! Creating pathways for underrepresented and first-generation leaders is how we build a better future. Fostering their success today ensures our entire community thrives tomorrow. Go Blue!

As public school kid, my teachers changed the trajectory of my life. To have the Ann Arbor Education Association back our movement for City Council hits deep. Teachers and staff shape our kids' futures every day—they deserve full respect and real policy support. Onward together!

I am holding Tommy’s family, team, and loved ones in my heart during this painful time. Ann Arbor is kinder and better connected because of the life he lived.

020

Aidan Sova @aidansova.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

Looking out at the crowd packed into the courtyard he built, the sheer scale of his impact was undeniable. We were all there because Tommy made each of us feel like part of his extended family. To lose someone who poured so much heart into our city leaves a profound void.

Tommy understood something fundamental about community: that people need places to gather, slow down, and feel like they belong. Through York Food + Drink, he built a true neighborhood hub rooted in togetherness and accessibility.

It was heavy to stand alongside hundreds of neighbors, friends, and family members as we gathered to grieve Tommy York. 🧵

I was excited to join fellow elected leaders to support Will Lawrence! Will is dedicated to fighting corruption, standing up to special interests, and building a true people-powered movement in Mid-Michigan. We need leaders who always put working families first.

I am proud to be endorsed by Operating Engineers 324! Their hardworking members build Ann Arbor’s roads, water mains, and critical utilities to keep our city moving forward. I remain committed to standing with union labor and investing in the essential trades shaping our future.

The Right to Organize is fundamental to ensuring renters have a meaningful voice in the safety, affordability, quality & condition of their homes. This is another — but not the last — important step toward strengthening our expanding Tenants Bill of Rights. #A2Council www.mlive.com/news/ann-arb...

New law would give Ann Arbor renters expanded protections to organize

City Council voted to advance a new ordinance after hearing stories from renters.

Public school teachers, coaches, and staff changed—and likely saved—my life. Knowing how many neighbors share that story, I was proud to stand with the Ann Arbor Education Association tonight. Our educators shape our future every day. It's time they get the full respect they deserve.

Aidan Sova @aidansova.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

Tonight, I spoke in strong support of #A2Council’s Tenants’ Right to Organize ordinance. Having grown up with housing instability, I know how vulnerable renters can feel—and are. Organizing is a fundamental right, and I’m grateful to all who worked to advance these protections.

#A2Council "I support measures that bring public dollars to the table. However, the money we have available will never be able to satisfy the extraordinary demand for new housing. So we have to rely on the private real estate market to make housing available and affordable to a much larger number."

Choosing fresh flowers to hand-deliver to my mother has never been easier thanks to the new Grow Jackson Farmer’s Market. Beyond the floral stalls, I’m deeply proud of how this space intentionally connects neighbors, empowers local vendors, and expands access to healthy food.

Every time I picture our new downtown library, I see a lifeline for anyone in our community who feels underserved. It will be the kind of safe, welcoming space my mother and I once needed. That same spirit of care is what drives my approach to public service.

In 2022, I was elected to the Ann Arbor District Library Board, becoming the youngest Black official elected in city history. We delivered real results: protected programs, expanded resources, and secured a new downtown library—with no new taxes.

That image never left me. The memory motivated everything I did. In 2018, I returned as a first-generation college student at the University of Michigan. I led organizations, worked multiple jobs, and poured myself into service. With every step, my love for Ann Arbor grew deeper.

My first visit to Ann Arbor was as a boy. Raised by a single mother in poverty, I found even making the trip from the south side of Jackson to be a struggle. But arriving here, I was struck by the beauty, community, and simple fact that other kids were thriving in ways I was not. 🧵 #A2Council
