Northern boy in London after kicking off the new school year doing some challenge in maths training for a lovely group of school staff. Let's see what 25-26 holds! Good start ♥️

Go ahead and identify exactly what you are going to teach (really, make sure you do that) but before you do, make sure you have a clear rationale for why you've chosen that content. It's that rationale that will give you the reason to teach what you've decided to teach - that's what needs to stick.

Icky name aside, the idea of identifying sticky knowledge on behalf of pupils is a tricky one. Yes we should be precise about what we intend to teach, but can we really presume to be able to identify what will stick? And is that really as ambitious as we can be? I think we can do better.

You know your curriculum is jam-packed but you're waiting for the government to finish their curriculum review before you do anything about it. The thing is, you could be doing it now. You could be developing a curriculum to roll out in September that better serves your pupils & teachers.

I forgot to pay for my website domain renewal so the already lower holiday stats have been at zero for a few days 😭 Back up now so you can fill your boots: www.aidansevers.com Or for interesting reads that'll help you with stuff: www.aidansevers.com/blog

I still believe that you can be doing something about this now, and that you don't have to wait for the outcome of any review. Particularly in foundation subjects. Revisit the NC - each subject's aims and purposes, and then the content. How much does your curriculum range beyond what is required?

Here's the link to the latest issue of @teachprimarymag.bsky.social magazine! Very pleased to have the headline for my article there on the front cover!

After working with a school who wanted to drill down into how they could ensure that all children's needs are met, particularly those who have great potential in a particular area, I got to write this article for @teachprimarymag.bsky.social. How do you ensure these children aren't overlooked?

About to lead @thekeysupport.bsky.social subject leadership training. 'Intent' is useful bit of terminology but its a big ol beast. It's not just a statement, it's everything you plan to do and there are many different facets (and documents) to it. More here: www.aidansevers.com/post/curricu...

I really need to start being brave enough to take photos when I'm working with schools. Here's a moody pic of me on the train to the school instead.

Love train journeys for the excuse just to read. However, I'm a firm believer phone calls should be banned on trains 🤣 My 'atmospheric reading' playlist came in handy.

Based on my reading we've not yet had the perfect class novel to pair with a unit on Egypt. Perhaps this from @mglnrd.bsky.social could be the one? A good one for The Teachers' Collection @marymyatt.bsky.social ?

I found this in my archives of art to put up when my children have stopped knocking art off the walls. I cannot for the life of me remember where I got it or who it is by. Can anyone help identify it?!

Advice for writers from C.S. Lewis: 'Don’t use adjectives which merely tell us how you want us to feel about the thing you are describing. I mean, instead of telling us a thing was “terrible,” describe it so that we’ll be terrified...'

Aidan Severs @aidansevers.bsky.social · 25/11/2024

Don't know who needs to hear this but... And since I don't think we really know the provenance of the 'You can please some people some of the time...' quote I came up with my own instead. And on a completely related note: what are the coordinates of your ideal tea colour?

I suppose I should probably just point out that I do development work with schools and people are pretty positive about what I do. You can find out more at www.aidansevers.com or you can just chat to me here. I even have availability before Christmas if you want to get stuff done. RTs appreciated

The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is...

Aidan Severs @aidansevers.bsky.social · 23/11/2024

My wife has a bakery in West Yorkshire - you may remember it from 'cakegate'. Anyway, the Christmas range is available to order and there is even a postal option if you're not local: www.threelittlebirdsbakery.com/christmas This year, more than ever, supporting small businesses is a must.

Throwback to a lovely frosty walk at the local @nationaltrust.bsky.social property this morning. Before the craziness of the day wore me out!

A lovely quiet(ish) moment with a picturebook that @ekayanderson.bsky.social gave to me. I miss reading picturebooks with my children but I'm glad that doesn't mean I have to stop (although it was so nice to snuggle up with them).

Although I largely stuck to the paths, although some of my walk was on open access land, about 3/4 of the walk was new territory for me. Plenty of spontaneity and surprise and lots of new information about where I was. I felt truly free of my preferred fixations, which aren't great at the moment.
