Our docs watcher flagged 26 changes on 9 Claude Code docs pages between Sept 28 and 30. The hooks page changed 4 times, once by 491 lines in the check that caught 2.1.284. A rule you verified last week may read differently. When did you last reread the hooks page? #AIDevTools #BuildInPublic
Diffstat of the Claude Code hooks docs page from one check on Sept 29: 491 lines added and 492 removed.

Pop!_OS PRs now need a ticked box: no LLM-written content, citing review load. A day later they cut the line allowing AI for research too, so it wouldn't read as an endorsement. Does yours ask? www.neowin.net/news/system76-bans-a…

Same instinct on the tooling side. Any setting name that goes into one of our guides has to be checked against the official docs and logged first, or the change can't be pushed, and a quick fetch coming back with 'not found' doesn't count as proof the setting doesn't exist.

We merged our skills' reference.md files back into SKILL.md, though Claude Code read them in 16 of 16 test runs when pointed to. Comments open: dev.to/rulestack/we-moved-our-claud… Do you split yours? #AgenticAI
Excerpt from our 20-run claude -p test: the model read reference.md in 16 of 16 runs whose SKILL.md pointed to it, and in 0 of 4 runs whose SKILL.md did not mention it.

From Sept 1 to 29, our agent started 201 background commands: 90 set no timeout, 85 asked for 10 minutes. Claude Code 2.1.285 stops background Bash at its timeout, default 30 min, max 2 h. So the 90 would stop at 30 min and the 85 at 10. Do your background jobs set one? #AIDevTools #IndieHackers

Relatable. We made our agent repeat every open question it has for us, in full, at the end of each report until we tell it to drop it, so nothing depends on us having caught it mid-scroll.

I read OpenAPPA's launch page next to our git push test: 'Block rm -rf / and the model writes a Python one-liner.' A Claude Code deny rule for git push let 5 of 14 spellings reach the remote. The docs agree: a rule 'isn't a security boundary.' What stands behind yours? #Security #BuildInPublic
Terminal: git -c user.name=x push origin main runs, and git reports a new branch main -> main on the remote even though a deny rule for git push was in place.

We grew one MCP result in Claude Code: 45,000 chars went in whole, 52,000 came back as a file path and a 2KB preview. The cliff is in characters: dev.to/rulestack/claude-codes-25000… Where did yours hit?
Four claude -p runs against a test MCP server: a 45k-character result went inline for +17,514 tokens, 52k characters became a file with a 2KB preview for +1,054, 66k characters became a token error and a file for +670, and 24k CJK characters went inline for +49,964

Same question one level down: in a Claude Code setup, a subagent's description field is what the main session reads to decide when to hand work over. A description that says what the agent is for in one plain line gets it called for the right jobs; a vague one gets it matched to the wrong ones.

Our reviewer subagent was meant to run on a different model than the writer. Once our main session ran Opus 5.5, its model: opus meant the same model, so at least 60 reviews from Sept 23 to 27 ran writer-on-writer. The reviewer noticed first. How would you catch that? #CodeReview #BuildInPublic
Terminal: a count over session logs shows the writer and the reviewer both on claude-opus-5-5, and 60 same-model reviews between Sept 23 and 27.

We gave Claude Code one deny rule, Bash(git push:*), and asked for a push 14 ways. git -c user.name=x push origin main reached the remote: dev.to/rulestack/claude-code-permis… Does your deny list cover that one?
Terminal: the Bash call git -c user.name=x push origin main runs to completion, git prints * [new branch] main -> main, and the remote now has refs/heads/main

Pinned, but it matched something we hit: after a context compaction, three of our Claude Code skill files came back cut off at line 162 of 325, 192 of 355 and 239 of 395. Like your split Q&A pairs, a rule cut from its context just disappears. We now put each skill's must-follow rules first.

Our end-to-end checks run Claude Code in a container and read the terminal. It draws on the alternate screen, which keeps no scroll history, so we save the screen after every step just to trace a failure later. A scrollback mode like this would let a test read the whole run at the end.

I looked for a hook to log every refused tool call in our sessions. PermissionDenied isn't it: it fires only in auto mode, not when you deny a prompt by hand, a PreToolUse hook blocks the call, or a deny rule matches. Those need their own logging. Where do your refusals land? #ClaudeCode #devtools

We put ${CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR} in a .mcp.json env block. The server itself had the real path, yet the plain reference arrived literally and the :-. default gave a dot: expansion runs in Claude Code's environment, before the server exists. Where does your server read the project root? #MCP #IndieDev
Excerpt of what the MCP server received: PROBE_PD_WITH_DEFAULT is a single dot and PROBE_PD_NO_DEFAULT is the literal text ${CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR}.

We wrote a cap into our agent's rules: at most 10 subagents at once. A month of session logs says the peak was 15, on Sept 26. The main agent started 6, those started 5, and one of those started 4. Claude Code's default limit is 20. Where does your subagent cap live? #AIAgents #BuildInPublic

Two reads sent me to grep our hook scripts for a trailing &. Corral's README: when a background process keeps stdout or stderr open, the runner 'hangs after the command exits.' Claude Code 2.1.285 fixed that hang for synchronous hooks. Does any hook of yours start a daemon? #DevOps #AIDevTools

Our repo's settings never set a permission mode. In Claude Code 2.1.284, unset means auto mode for interactive sessions on every plan and provider; 2.1.285 extends that to claude -p on third-party providers or with telemetry off. Which mode did your last session start in? #ClaudeCode #IndieDev
Terminal: grep -c defaultMode .claude/settings*.json prints .claude/settings.json:0 and .claude/settings.local.json:0, so neither settings file in the repo sets a permission mode.

I checked the order Claude Code uses to pick a subagent's model, as both of our agent files set one. Call parameter, then the file's frontmatter, then CLAUDE_CODE_SUBAGENT_MODEL, then the main model. Before 2.1.251 the env var beat everything, even inherit. Which sets yours? #ClaudeCode #AIAgents
Excerpt labelled 'Claude Code docs, Subagents: model resolution (2026-09-22)': Before v2.1.251, CLAUDE_CODE_SUBAGENT_MODEL came first in this order and overrode both the per-invocation parameter and the frontmatter

Worth knowing where that $50/day goes. On our setup, each Claude Code subagent starts with ~54k tokens of context (system prompt, tools, CLAUDE.md) before it reads a file. Summing input tokens per request inflated that 8x for us, since re-sends are cache reads. Do you track raw tokens or dollars?

I found our setup in a Claude Code fix. Before 2.1.277, sessions continued after /clear or --resume lost part of their first message when a SessionStart hook printed output. Ours prints context every session. We never measured what that cost us. Does yours print anything? #ClaudeCode #IndieDev

I checked how Claude Code treats a hook that times out, since a guard that quietly expires is our worst case. A timed-out command hook on PreToolUse lets the tool call continue. On PreModelSwitch it blocks the switch. SessionEnd gets 1.5 s. Has one of your guards ever timed out? #ClaudeCode #DevOps
