Day 4 - AU "Could we have been friends even if tragedy hadn't brought us together? If the Empire hadn't moved against Eorzea. If the Calamity hadn't happened. What if we never had to leave our homes? We lived just on opposite sides of the mountains, after all..." #twinwolweek2026
"Of course we would be friends.

I had dreamed of crossing those mountains since I was very young. Dravania was so close, and I had heard much of the scholars' city at its furthest reach. A library that held every story imaginable. A garden grown from seeds brought from all corners of the star. A place where any question I could come up with, someone would have an answer.

I would have found my way there eventually.""Though I can't imagine Sharlayan being welcoming of a runt from the deep mountains, so I probably would need to be there for another reason first.

A courier, perhaps. I could travel anywhere. /Everywhere/. It would let me meet people, so I'm certain I would run into you both at some point.

You would surely have need of a courier at some point, no? Fresh baked goods from Limsa's finest shops. Paints from Ul'dah in the rarest of colors. Perhaps an invitation to visit Gridania during Starlight Season?""Maybe we might not have spoken at first, but surely our paths would cross in such a way it couldn't be avoided.

Alisaie, you were the fastest friend I've ever made, and that was almost entirely on you. I was content to keep thoughts and conversation to myself, but you were the one who extended a hand first.

I don't doubt for a moment we would be friends again, even if it was something as simple as how kind you are. Anyone who Nova loves as much as he does you...I would trust you without hesitation, for a chocobo always knows a gentle heart. And it would not take me long at all to see that for myself, either---I would be awestruck to meet someone as brave and brilliant as you."He loves both of you, of course... he just shows it differently.

He still very much remembers first meeting you, Alphinaud. Though I'm not sure you'll ever get him to grow out of teasing you. Even if you hadn't met under such tense circumstances, I think he'd still find you easy to pick on. He gets jealous when you're the one giving directions, and he doesnt get to choose.

You have always had a plan. For /anything/. I'm terrible at that...I think without you, I would be wandering aimless more often than not. More importantly, you're always trying to do good. Even if I was a simple courier delivering a letter of no importance, I don't think I could help myself---I would still admire you for who you are."

Day 3 - "In Search Of..." a good night's sleep finally tbh #twinwolweek2026
He stirred from sleep when a pressure against his neck startled him.

It took everything for Alphinaud to resist rolling away, catching himself just as the room came into view. Drapes that were pulled to shut the light out, with lanterns inside casting dim light that reminded him of a campfire. His heartbeat slowly steadied as he recognized it as the Pendants. Indoors, in the Crystarium.

Safe.

These last few weeks had been difficult for him to get any meaningful sleep. By his track of time, Ahzuvi's nameday would be soon. For her, how long has it been? How badly did he hurt her in Yanxia? How much happened after Alisaie was called? What more has she endured in their absence?

Any more selfish feelings could wait—forever if he must. Her peace of mind comes first...if he gets the chance...

As he felt himself start drifting back to sleep, there was another nudge to his neck. Only now did the rest of his senses catch up, and he froze at the realization. The gentle breathing of another just beside him, the familiar and comforting scent of lavender and cinnamon...

She was here.

His eyes lifted to look up at her face, and reaffirm himself this was real. Not merely a dream to taunt him. She had returned to their sides, and more than that...he and his sister had somehow stumbled through that whole mortifying conversation only for her to accept without hesitation. He'd nearly passed out partway through, and now he worried if maybe he had.

He could just barely see his sister on the other side. No one else could look so peaceful yet so self confident in sleep.

Ahzuvi's cheek was truly pressed to his head, and he realized that her arm had been resting under his head. His cheeks flushed—it would be more accurate to say /he/ fell asleep on /her/. Careful not to wake her, he repositioned so he wasn't causing her anymore discomfort.

She hardly stirred. A sign she was well and truly content...he felt the sting of tears in his eyes as he remembered how long it had been.

Day 2 - Summon. "Passing of the Torch" #twinwolweek2026
They woke not to pain, but...relief. Despite what most certainly were grievous wounds caused by unimaginably potent aether, they felt neither bone nor blood out of place. Only fatigue—expected after extensive curative magic—and a curious warmth in the air that could only be described as 'relief'. Like the warm sun rising after a bitter winter's night, or the welcoming embrace of a campfire on the side of a long road.

A piercing but songlike screech nearby tore the Scions from their collective langour, but two among them rushed to stand before the rest.

That was a sound Alphinaud and Alisaie were both familiar with. An impossible thing, calling forth memories from years past. But it was every bit as real as the soothing presence filling the air around them, now recognizing it for what it was—a deluge of aether, crimson flames that danced not with destruction but restoration, shorn from the feathers of a great firebird before them.

"Grandfather...?" Alisaie's voice was frail, wonder and confusion as if witnessing a dream that would fade at the slightest disturbance.

Alphinaud had no words—anything he wanted to say was held back by a mind racing to understand, and his attention shifted at a figure beyond the firebird.

Writhing darkness that coalesced into a monstrous form, overshadowing the firebird yet recoiled from the radiance. Like Bahamut once had been, this entity was held back by Phoenix's mere presence.

"Ahzuvi."

It was a statement of absolute truth which caused both twins' hearts to seize. Y'shtola could see it. The unmistakable brilliance of the Warrior of Light's aether made up the lifeforce of the primal before them.

Absolute truth they refused to believe."No, no, no!" Alisaie pushed herself to her feet, but the motion alone took whatever energy she had left. Desperation visibly wracked her body as she fought to remain standing, but it took her brother's sudden intervention to prevent her from falling over again.

And prevent her from taking even a single step forward.

Alphinaud was trying to think of anything—any possible reason, any detail, /anything/—to disprove Y'shtola's observation. He gave himself no time to consider the flood of emotions that would hit him at any given moment, especially as his light touch on his sister's arms were the only thing keeping her in place.

"You /promised/!" Alisaie shouted, biting back tears as she tried to reach the attention of the primal. "You PROMISED me!"

No heroic sacrifices.

That alone took the rest of her strength out of her, and she stumbled into Alphinaud with a sob. She refused to take her eyes off of Phoenix, but she couldn't bear to see this play out again. This damn bird—a myth that speaks of /rebirth/—standing in the place of someone she loved so dearly.

Her brother remained speechless, clinging to the hope of miracles that Ahzuvi had proven herself capable of again and again. More than that, they knew of the miracles this specific primal had performed the last time it was summoned—so potent in its lifeforce that Bahamut succeeded in using it to anchor himself to the corporeal realm.

If anyone could recreate the magic that Ysayle once performed, to call upon Phoenix of all things and survive it...if anyone, it would be Ahzuvi. The Scions could do nothing but watch from afar as Phoenix took flight, a harrier at the heels of this dark beastly thing. It moved just as Ahzuvi would on a battlefield—swift, relentless, fearless. Dancing around its foe, grace and power with every dive and strike. At any point Emet-Selch threatened to come too close to the Scions, Phoenix was there—taking sharpened claws and dark magicks in their place.

There was no question—she had always been willing to pay the ultimate price to protect them. Willing to go to any lengths to see Alphinaud and Alisaie's happiness.

This was their beloved Ahzuvi.

Day 6/7 - Anxiety, Bliss, Together and Apart reasons we dont leave Ahzuvi alone, and reasons you don't want to become the reason she's left alone #wolisaieweek2026 #wolisaie
A large single page comic. A long string of agitated inner dialogue that grows more frantic with each panel, and the speech bubble also grows more chaotic. Eventually trailing off to silence, and a gentle question of 'How are you?', easing an overwhelming burden of anxiety in an instant (with a hug)

Day 5 - Mystery/Knowledge "What's so special about this 'warrior of light' anyways?" (long form in alt text) ((dont pay attention to me uploading this on day 6 Ifellbehind)) #wolisaieweek2026 #wolisaie
Alisaie was not the first to arrive.

When she opened the doors to the Waking Sands, she was expecting to have a chance to speak with Urianger prior to the arrival of this ever-so-reliable scion that her brother would not shut up about.

But no.

There she was, already learning the broad details of the task at hand.

Alisaie knew that it was her decision to request the warrior of light's assistance (at the 'recommendation' of both her dear brother and Urianger), but it still felt annoyingly intrusive.

Alisaie folded her arms and waited awkwardly to the side while the two continued conversing. She could and should handle this on her own. This adventurer—no matter how highly regarded—didn't need to be here. This was a family matter, for one thing. This was her beloved grandfather, for another.

But the scale of what she was attempting to do was... challenging. No matter how much she wanted to argue, it would simply be easier to have this well-regarded sellsword along for the journey. These caverns were massive, and the outer shell of the Dalamud fragment was bordering labyrinthian. How long had they been searching for a way in, a few bells at least? How long could they be searching? Several bells more? Days, even? And that was without accounting for the very-much-still-active Allagan systems that were ready to blast them out of existence at every turn.

She had to admit, Ahzuvi was every bit the great warrior that her reputation suggested.

Pesky Allagan technology and twisted chimeric beasts were felled as easily as your everyday bandit. More impressively, Ahzuvi was not intimidated in the slightest.

The two of them stood in the shadow of Bahamut's wing, and the hyur marched forward despite the visceral reaction of fear that plagued any Eorzean who witnessed it emerge from the red moon in the first place.

So when Ahzuvi's first signs of uncertainty were in a simple maze, Alisaie was both annoyed and amused.

But that uncertainty turned to anxiety very quickly, and yet the warrior of light remained as sharp as ever to the dangers they faced. It was rather extraordinary watching her decisively and completely dismantle an Allagan defense node, only to stand back up and look around the surroundings nervously.

It wasn't until they found an entry port into the ruin that Alisaie finally understood.

Ahzuvi calmed significantly once inside, largely unphased by the monolithic chamber of Allagan handiwork.

The warrior of light hadn't been on paranoia's edge due to the defensive systems outside. She had been facing a most mundane of fears—wandering blindly in a labyrinth, and solid earth in place of sky, reaffirming that they were very deep underground.

She was claustrophobic."I'm...somewhat surprised any kind of seedkin is able to thrive out here."

Alisaie could admit Ahzuvi was...charming, but she was providing more questions than answers the longer they shared company. In just this single venture, they had stumbled their way through corrupted crystal shards, some dozen or so golems, and aetheric illusions without too much trouble.

But it was the flora that made Ahzuvi stop and question things.

Charming. That's all she could think about, and it was mildly distracting.

—
After returning from the first venture into the ruins in La Noscea, Alisaie was reeling from finding that her grandfather still lived, yet remained beyond her reach.

Worse, she had to somehow explain this to Urianger...and not sound driven insane with grief. There's no way he would believe her—who would? She hardly could, herself.

But Ahzuvi would.

Even as Urianger cast reasonable doubt on what Alisaie had seen, Ahzuvi stood firm in defending that what she saw was more than a distraught figment of imagination. She could hear it in the warrior of light's tone—she also didn't sound confident that what they saw was real.

But she trusted Alisaie enough to believe her.

—
Ahzuvi poked one of the seedkin with the tip of her spear, causing Alisaie to ready herself just in case.

"Mmh. Maybe 'thriving' was the wrong word. This is long dead." Ahzuvi poked a second one with the same result. "The area is rich in aether, but by no means healthy for these, I suppose."

"You know what they are?"

Ahzuvi nods. "They're somewhat common in the Twelveswood—"

Both jumped back as the third plant Ahzuvi checked sprung to life, two barbed tendrils rising from the center of the plant. A sweet smell filled the air, and a noxious substance visibly dripped down the vines.

"Mmh... correction. I know something similar to what this is. The same concept to deal with it should apply."

Unphased. Knowledgeable. Humorous.

Charming.Alisaie bit her lip in frustration, rubbing at a fresh bruise on her arm. It didn't bother her at much as having to argue with her brother here of all places, but it still hurt. It distracted her from the frustration, at least.

She just wanted to keep moving. This place had gone from bad to worse, and she didn't want to look at it anymore.

The familiar footsteps at her side for the entirety of this journey had gone quiet, however. Alisaie realized she hadn't seen Ahzuvi since she and her brother started arguing.

When she found her, Ahzuvi was at the far end of the chamber, seemingly in a trance. She was still, her shoulders had fallen limp and her spear dropped to the ground as she gazed up at the glowing vessels and their prisoners in stasis.

Alisaie tried calling out to her, but she obviously didn't hear.

Concerned, she approached the warrior of light instead.

Not a trance, but simply in shock.

Ahzuvi's eyes were wide, looking on in horror at the atrocities the Allagans had committed. It was the first time Alisaie had seen her so thoroughly... defeated was the only word she could come up with.

"Ahzuvi...? Are you alright?"

No response.

A few minutes passed, and still no response. Alisaie remained with her, and to her surprise (and annoyance), Alphinaud was not far away either.

Finally, Ahzuvi allowed herself to move, stepping back and abruptly turning to walk away. She grabbed her spear from the ground, and left without a word—eyes cast to the ground with every step.

Day 4 - Moon/Star A year without the stars has a special way of wearing on you, but how are you supposed to react when they came so far to find you? (Long form in alt text) #wolisaieweek2026 #wolisaie
Lakeland was truly beautiful, even when it was under the haunting everlasting light.

But now it was experiencing the first sip of moonlight in one hundred years. Colors that hadn't been seen before washed across the forest, only barely visible by the glow of the Crystal Tower.

Alisaie had forgotten it had a light of its own to cast, so easily outshone by the remains of a calamity.

She had been here for a year. Long enough to get used to the depressing forever daylight.

Ahzuvi had only lasted a handful of days before she ripped the night from its gaol beyond the sky—she had gone stir crazy at the lack of a night cycle in that time, but Alisaie had a hard time blaming her.

There have been two nights, but only now have they come to Fort Jobb to gaze at the stars.

The first night was entirely consumed by the pathetically comedic reveal of each other's feelings.Alisaie had leaned against the warrior of light before, many times—Ahzuvi was comfortable with such close causal touch and affection, but really only with her and her brother.

Things were so obvious, between all of them. Ahzuvi hadn't been (entirely) unobservant of her own feelings—she just feared the outcome if the topic ever came up, things would change irreparably.

The great warrior of light truly spent all these years not fully aware of the mutual affections, even as they quite literally flicked her in the face.

Honestly, it made sense why Thancred and Y'shtola had made a bet on who blurted out their feelings first. Alisaie made a mental note to collect a share of coin from Y'shtola for her lack of confidence—it was a hefty sum after so many years. But to Alisaie's immeasurable annoyance, she wouldn't have won that bet unless she was objectively correct.

She just hated that Y'shtola read her and her brother like a book. And she had to give some credit—Y'shtola had assumed Alphinaud would be the first to break that topic open.

...
Though Ahzuvi's attention was focused on a journal in her lap, she did occasionally tilt her head to nudge Alisaie's at her shoulder. Simple, comforting reminders that they were together again.Ahzuvi was quietly marking away in her journal, making notes and recording observations of the night sky. On the other page, a vivid depiction of stars preserved in colored wax.

Alisaie hadn't seen her draw that one, and realized it had to have been done before the Lightwarden's defeat.

"Is that Eorzea's sky?"

The warrior of light paused, her quill tapping.

"In a way...it's what I remember, at least."

"Your memory is beautiful." Gods it felt good to finally not have to stifle her impulsive desires—years of holding back intrusive thoughts almost gave the game away many times. Alisaie tilted her head, trying to make sense of the red star in the corner. Ahzuvi certainly remembered Dalamud, but she didn't seem the sort to preserve it so... gracefully.

Her curiosity got the better of her, especially as Eorzea's night skies had essentially faded from her own memory.

"Dalamud? No," the way she laughed had always been gentle, but now it came with a warmth and adoration that almost stole Alisaie's breath away. "Dragonstar. I miss being able to see it."

Alisaie's brows knitted together. "You've pointed it out to me before, but I never noticed it was so...red." The irony of it being Dalamud-red was not lost on her, and she assumed it was what Alphinaud would surely call a 'stylistic choice'.

Ahzuvi was quiet for a time, clearly trying to find the words she wanted to say.

"It's... complicated. You know the Ishgardian tales about the star burning bright at the roar of a great wyrm?"

Alisaie hums affirmation.

"That's not entirely correct, but also not...wrong? You might be able to see it with an aetherometer, actually." Her quill accents her words, pointing at the colorful lines and swirls on the page. "It disturbs the aether in the heavens in response to dragonsong. And dragons are quite often singing. Sometimes its soft, ripples like heavy water. Sometimes it's sharp, like the crack of an old tree falling. And it isn't always colors... but it feels like colors."Alisaie had gotten used to Ahzuvi's attempts at describing her perception of aether, and Ahzuvi had gotten better at describing it. Somewhat. Still, they both agreed that a view through an aetherometer would be one of the first things they do upon returning home.

There was an awkward silence after that, however. Neither wanted to address the current situation of how to get the Scions home, but it was heavy on their minds. Alisaie was very aware how hard Ahzuvi was trying not to think about the topic, and speak as if nothing was wrong. As if returning to the Source was something they could all do at any time.

But she knew that the warrior of light was missing home. Her adventure's spirit that had flourished in Eorzea's beauty and mysteries, yearning to return.

"You know you can go back if you need anything, right?"

"I'm not leaving."

It was abrupt and forceful, enough that Alisaie had to squeeze her arm to remind her.

Remind her she was in the present, at her side, no longer a world and a year away.

Ahzuvi relaxed a moment later. "Forgive me."

"There is nothing to forgive. I understand. We all understand."

For all of her strength, the Scions knew how deeply she cared for them. How far she would go to save them, how much she would sacrifice just to see them.

But Alisaie couldn't help but notice a different emotion under Ahzuvi's behavior since arriving. A flicker of something she didn't want anyone to know, but couldn't fully hide.

Something happened after the Exarch called her to the first, leaving the warrior of light alone in the middle of a war field. She was certain something terrible happened, and Ahzuvi was not willing to speak on it.

Alisaie had already seen how deeply Ahzuvi could hide a memory she wanted erased from the world. And she had acted exactly like this.

"I am not leaving you again."

Day 3 - Passion/Apathy For a deeply sentimental individual, the warrior of light was known to have a quiet demeanor that could leave people guessing what she finds enjoyment in. For those who know her, she makes it all too obvious. (Long form in alt text) #wolisaieweek2026 #wolisaie
Playful music in Revenant's Toll was not uncommon—many bards and minstrels would travel through Mor Dhona, and there was no shortage of musically- inclined adventurers who considered it home.

The Scions' own Warrior of Light was one such adventurer, but she had no fondness for the attention that music would bring. She preferred to keep to herself, and those moments of song were reserved for close friends.

But ever since the events that brought about the end of the Dragonsong War, she simply did not play at all anymore.

Alisaie had yet to be present to hear it, save for one time long before they met.

---

The fledgling warrior of light, before she had even earned that title and was simply the newest Scion.

Alisaie recalled arriving at the Waking Sands with her brother one late afternoon. Ahzuvi was sitting on the dock, fingers dancing across strings as her song accompanied the sunset in a beautiful duet.

Honestly, she still can't believe how hard she denied being more than a little interested in the new Scion...

---

Alisaie was wandering the aetheryte plaza, following the sound of a familiar instrument. She hadn't seen Ahzuvi at all today, assuming the warrior of light was off fulfilling some ordinary task—as she so often did. So if she wasn't even in Revenant's Toll, surely this wasn't her?

But there she was, perched on the ledge overlooking the plaza, guitar in hand and playing like she'd never set it down at day in her life.

It was the most beautiful sound she'd ever heard, and she was quite aware how much of that was due to her own infatuation with the warrior of light herself.

Alisaie found her way up to the spot, making herself comfortable on the ledge just beside Ahzuvi. The warrior of light smiled, an unspoken welcome as her attention remained on performing the melody to its end. Alisaie did not interrupt, content to watch Revenant's Toll from above and simply listen.

The smile never fully faded from Ahzuvi's face—even as she was lost in her music, the corners of her lips were always pulled up ever so slightly. Her body swayed gently with the rhythm, her foot tapped back and forth in the air to keep her pace.

She was happy. Unmistakably, undeniably happy.

And Alisaie was smitten.

---

The sun was well on its way beyond the horizon by the time Ahzuvi wrapped up for the day.

By the time they'd returned to the main road, fog had become mist, and mist had become rain.

Their leisurely walk back to the Seventh Heaven became a brisk run, reaching the doors before they could get soaked. Ahzuvi remained in the doorway, gazing up at the sky—an expression somewhere between contemplative and relaxed.

Alisaie also remained in the doorway, wringing water from her braid. She wouldn't be going back outside anytime this evening, as the rain had only grown heavier. Much of Revenant's Toll seemed to have the same idea—the streets were empty, and the tavern quite full.

"I take it you're having a good day."

It took a while for Ahzuvi to respond. This was not unusual in itself, lost in her thoughts as she was—Alisaie had quickly learned how she preferred to take her time and be deliberate with her words when she was in a pensive mood such as this.

But this didn't seem like a difficult statement to react to. Whatever was on her mind was taking all of her attention in this moment.

Finally, she responded, as if the full two minutes of silence was no longer than a handful of seconds.

"A restful day. It was much needed."It was such a mundane comment at its surface, but Alisaie noted the immeasurable depth of some unnamed emotion behind it.

When Ahzuvi didn't elaborate, Alisaie pressed further.

"You have been running yourself to the bone as of late. Though... I'm starting to understand that you're always like this."

Ahzuvi laughed, finally shaken from whatever ponderings had her so firmly entranced.

"/You/ are the one who told me that if I didn't take the day off, you'd find a way to force me to."

Alisaie paused.

She did do that.

Last night, over dinner with Y'shtola and Tataru. The conversation had been teasing Ahzuvi for her busy habits, who did little to defend herself.

So Alisaie verbally twisted her arm.

...
In a flustered attempt to redirect Ahzuvi's attention, Alisaie simply moved past the accusation without comment.

"You seem like this is the first time you've seen rain in several moons, and I know for a fact that's not true."

Ahzuvi again took her time responding.

"I like the rain. I used to lie down under the aetheryte and simply let go of my thoughts for a while, and just listen. I find it comforting."

"It feels like song."

That was how the warrior of light described her perception of aether.

Most Scions took her word for it.

Alisaie was determined to understand it.

Ahzuvi took to red magic surprisingly quick—once they found a sturdy enough crystal focus to endure her volatile aether, at least. She had the curiosity to follow Alisaie's many musings on the combat applications of aether, especially the seemingly endless range of potential that red magic offered.

For better or worse, Ahzuvi also had the impulsive nature to jump at any opportunity to try something new with it.

They had done it once before—Alisaie amassing a massive amount of aether from the Scions, to turn it around as a singular strike. A blade of light.

But with Ahzuvi's seemingly bottomless well of aether, Alisaie posed an idea. Hesitantly, of course—it was perhaps a little more intimate than the warrior of light would be comfortable with.

She said yes.

--

While every Scion has been in a position to share in Ahzuvi's aether for one reason or another, Alisaie was the one most familiar with it by far.

The aetheric dance of two red mages, of weaving magic between blade and crystal, between each other.

In those moments, she could almost understand what Ahzuvi could feel.

A thrill in the way aether played at her fingertips. The warm caress of Ahzuvi's uniquely fire-tilted natural balance. The hum of her blade as the magic cascaded down its edge with each strike.

--

Alisaie was almost overwhelmed by the force, having not felt Ahzuvi's immense aether in almost a year. Had she forgotten what it was like?

As they ran through the remains of Holminster Switch, Alisaie couldn't help but notice Ahzuvi's hostility. How she moved and fought, the terrifying efficiency she was bringing sin eaters down with.

Her brother once admitted to a recurring sleep terror, not long after they arrived in the First—of losing their warrior of light to the latent aether of nidhogg still in her soul.

Day 1 - Might/Magic Red Magic was not the easiest thing for Ahzuvi to learn—the Scions had long understood she was not suited for casting. But Alisaie hadn't been around enough to know this... Several rapiers were lost in the making of this red mage. #wolisaieweek2026 #wolisaie
A comic depicting steady dialogue between two voices, one a darker and confident leader, and a lighter and uncertain following along.

A: Just a little higher—
B: like this?
A: More.
B: ...here?
A: ...
A: That will work.
---
A: Now—focus on a simple form.
B: Simple?
B: Such as?
A: Like...ah!
A: Start with a spark of levin.

A: Focus—
...
A: —channel only enough aether for a single spark—
...
A: Control the flow.
---
A: Arm raised!
B: Arm raised.
A: Palm forward.
B: Palm forward...
A: Draw the aether...
...
A: and
...
A: Relea—
---

The dialogue is cut off as an explosion bursts from the bottom of the page. The comic continues from the explosion on the first page, smoke swirling around two characters—one has covered her face with her arm, the other remains frozen in place while her front side is burnt and ashy.
Ahzuvi keeps her eyes closed, hand still raised as the fractured crystal focus continues to smoke and spark.
---
(Alisaie brushing off smoke from her braid)
Alisaie: That's your idea of control?
(Ahzuvi pinching a flame on her hair)
Ahzuvi: Did you think Urianger was exaggerating?
---
Alisaie: YES? OBVIOUSLY??
---
(Alisaie continues speaking out-of-scene, while various images of Ahzuvi's failed attempts at magic casting are depicted)
Alisaie: 'Combust' and 'Incinerate' are not commonly used to describe casting.
Alisaie: Even novice casters don't just destroy a tome.
---
Ahzuvi: Well, several tomes actually.
(Ahzuvi tilts her head while counting on her fingers, a trail of smoke still wafting from her hair)
Ahzuvi: ...a few staves...
(Alisaie looks incredulous, and speaks in a hushed voice while her thoughts are loud and hidden among the smoke)
Alisaie: Something is wrong with you.
Alisaie: How??
(Alisaie's thoughts): HOW ARE YOU STILL ALIVE

Day 6 and 7 - Dusk/Guarded/Dawn/Bare 'Despite the grave circumstances that put us on this journey, moments like this will be writ into my memory as some of the happiest I've ever known.' (Longer form in the alt text) #wolphinaudweek2025
The dusk had cast a palette of flame and mystery on the western face of Sohm Al. The scarlet and crimson of fading sunlight met with the haunting blue of the mountain's rich crystals, producing a scene that held Ahzuvi's attention captive—oblivious to Alphinaud's approach.

The empty patch of grass beside her welcomed him, enticed him even. There was little question why he opted to share her company rather than sit through another argument on Ishgardian history; on any other journey, he would be elated to take part in such a debate. Clarifying a contentious history, and bringing about lasting peace after a millenia of war? If he wasn't so lost in his own mind, he would recognize the reason for the distraction for what it was.

She was no longer 'his' warrior of light, who spent her waking moments fulfilling whatever plan he had come up with. She was now his closest friend, who had revealed to him a brilliant mind, gentle disposition, and a contagious sense of wonder about the world.

But after their encounter with the primal Ravana, after Estinien rightfully chided him for putting Ahzuvi at risk /again/, something new gnawed at his chest with relentless persistence. The thought of losing her was unbearable, and he sought to express that still-nameless feeling somehow.

"Mind if I sit with you?"

"You may." Her response was one of warmth that put the spectacle of the sunset to shame.

"I found something for you-" he announced boldly, forgetting every practiced dialouge he spent the day working on in his haste to hand his gift over. In his hand was a piece of crystal, and watched as her eyes fixated on it with a tangible curiosity. He could hear his heartbeat in his ear as he watched her hand reach up to his, fingers brushing his palm as she examined the stone.

"...dravanian opal..." Her breath caught, her voice low enough it was only for him—at least, he would like to think of it that way."You recognize it?" He picked it up from the mountainside some bells earlier, wanting to give her something to add to her collection of odd trinkets. He had no idea what it actually /was/, but now he was thanking each of the Twelve individually for the luck.

"I do. It's a very beautiful sort of precious stone only found in Abalathian highlands..."

It was endearing the way her fingers lingered on the stone, and he knew she was resisting picking it up entirely—she frequently needed explicit permission before accepting anything for herself. He nudged the rock into her hand, watching her eyes light up in awe.

"Oh, it even has a flame!" She tilted the stone with a very precise angle so he could see, and sure enough the pale greens and blues flared with flecks of orange. "A beautiful one at that."

"A flame?" His question was genuine, but more than anything he was just eager to hear her speak. Another charming development he'd discovered since the two had spent more time together was her passion for storytelling—something he had unintentionally overshadowed through his compulsive conversationalist habits. He once admitted a childish dream of his to one day visit Ishgard and see its faerie tale grandeur.

She returned the favor by sharing her own childish dreams of chasing the sunset across the world, seeing all that Hydaelyn had to bear.

"Some say these opals form when a dragon's flame melts the earth, and is recaptured within their tears." Ahzuvi glanced cautiously in the direction of Estinien and Ysayle, resuming only when she was satisfied they weren't close enough to overhear. "Or sometimes it's their blood, depending on who you ask..."

"Were you to answer, which would you say?"

"...Where I'm from, I learned the former. In truth, its formation is something much more mundane, but I still liked to believe the stories."

"Correct me if I'm wrong—you're from Coerthas, but…I’ve noticed you don’t seem to harbor the same abhorrence of the dragons...?"He had been resisting the question, especially in the presence of their Ishgardian hosts. He wanted to sate his curiosity, and he wanted to know more about /her/, but he knew that anything related to her past was likely to be answered in vague terms.

So he was surprised that she hesitated, and checked again to confirm their bickering companions weren’t nearby. It was the same defensiveness that he’d grown accustomed to—a guarded distance she had put up between herself and the world, but watched as it melted away when she returned her focus on him.

“Not all of Coerthas faces the same ire of the dragons. Where I’m from, they were more of a fear than a foe. A lot of older towns still stood from before the war even began, older generations passing down different tales. Books that survived in family collections…”

As the last of dusk’s light faded, Ahzuvi’s story had shifted to retellings of the verdant greens of a pre-Calamity Coerthas. Alphinaud was taken aback by how fondly she spoke of it—she painted a depiction of adventure worthy of the finest bardsongs, something she sounded even wistful for, enough that he was left wondering why she would be so averse to it.

…

She didn’t notice when exactly he fell asleep. The weight against her shoulder had been there for at least a full bell, but he was awake enough to be responding for a time. Realizing this, she settled again and fell back into silence, turning the opal over in her palm and examining every facet of its color.

When armored footsteps approached, she looked up with mild irritation—even if he hadn’t been testing her patience today already, Estinien was an unwelcome visitor at this late hour.

“At least our little lordling is sleeping, now.” Ahzuvi’s flat glare was cut off before she could respond, his tone softer this time. “But you should as well. I’m taking watch now. /You/ need rest.”

“Didn’t realize I had a curfew.”

“You do when you spend most of the day covered in toxic pollen and ochu acid.”She held no reservations arguing with the Azure Dragoon, but she didn’t have the energy or interest to bother this late at night. Nor did she want to wake Alphinaud. Ahzuvi accepted the defeat this time, and waited until Estinien had left before trying to settle in for the night.

She easily could have carried Alphinaud back to their makeshift camp, but he seemed comfortable enough that she would feel bad moving him.

The cold was another story.

They didn’t keep a fire this night so as not to alert the resident dragons to their presence. As she was just starting to doze off while leaning back against him, she noticed the slightest tremors in his breath. His body followed moments later.

Without hesitation, she risked waking him in an attempt to reposition—moving him to lay across her lap, giving herself room to lie down and curl her body just enough to guard his vitals from the frigid air. While not a roaring campfire, her body was always uncommonly warm even in the most bitter of snows. The shivering dwindled, and his body no longer tensed to conserve heat.

Satisfied, she allowed herself a short nap. Long enough she wouldn’t have to hear from Estinien again.

…

Dawn illuminated the thick mist that curtained over the mountainside, and Alphinaud stirred when it became too bright to ignore.

He froze when his eyes opened to Ahzuvi’s sleeping face only ilms away from him. The rest of his senses caught up, and he was keenly aware of how close they both were. She must have fallen asleep at some point…/he/ must have fallen asleep at some point, and that was embarrassing enough his face burned under a tinge of pink.

More importantly than his wandering thoughts to their proximity, though, was noticing that her head was resting against solid, cold stone. Without second thought, he reached his arm out and carefully worked his hand to serve as a makeshift pillow for her.

She didn’t wake, and he returned to slumber with the quietest sigh of relief.

Of adoration.

Day 5 - Speak/Silence He was surprised she didn't turn his presence away immediately. She had every right to want nothing to do do him. But he did not expect her to be the one to break the silence first. "I'm glad you're alright. " (Longer form in the alt text) #wolphinaudweek2025
It was almost insulting how clear the skies were this morning - the sun gracefully cresting the peaks, casting all of the highlands in warm light after such a bitter storm. As if the blizzard had never even happened, though the glittering banks of snow across the settlement would prove otherwise.

It would make his search a little easier, at least.

He hadn't expected to find her, let alone have a chance to try and apologize to her...but his heart lifted when she did not rebuke his approach. Instead, those sharp eyes fixed on him - what greeted him wasn't well-deserved anger, but something rather difficult to put a name to.

It was an uncertainty.

A vulnerability.

He hesitated, leaving a cautious distance between them rather than approach. He had tested her patience far enough these last several weeks. Moons would be more accurate, but even considering that fact made his chest ache.

The silence hurt the most, though. She was never the easiest for him to read, but he knew well enough that her usually calm demeanor masked a sharp and temperamental mind. This was not the silence of someone who had nothing to say.

This was the silence of someone who had too much to say.

He risked stepping closer. For all of his worries, she DID save him. She had carried him back to shelter, a warm bed, and safety.

A flush crept across his ears as he recalled the moment he finally woke in the middle of the night, Tataru offering him a warm drink and a stern bit hushed scolding for his carelessness. It almost got him killed, and the warrior of light once again shouldered him (quite literally this time) back to sanctuary. She was so worn out, his bed was not entirely his - she had passed out shortly after setting him down, not even having enough energy to find a better place to sleep.

He was thankful that the cold would be an easy explanation should the red in his cheeks be noticed. The image would be certain to remain in his mind for a long time to come - a sleeping Ahzuvi curled over the edge of the bed, one arm over him and her face buried against his side.

For his own sake, he had decided not to mention he saw that. He had little doubt that it would make their already tense companionship worse.

...

He could feel her eyes on him still, but the silence stretched on. His throat was dry, like anything he wanted to say was sapped away, leaving him wanting to wither away to nothing in that moment. He couldn't bear to look at her again, to meet her gaze.

Even if the quiet felt as strained as a drawn bowstring, her company felt familiar and comforting. He would take every moment he could get... moments that could on the surface feel like everything was back to normal.

So when the heavy air was broken with her voice first, he about jumped out of his skin from the surprise. Shock quickly gave way to bewilderment once he processed what she had said.

"I'm glad you're alright.""I am too. Glad that you are well, I mean."

It wasn't much, and she quickly withdrew again, but again he was pleasantly surprised to see she continued to permit his company.

Her eyes drifted off to the western road, where the Gates of Judgment stood in the distance. He couldn't help but follow her gaze.

He frowned, shame and embarrassment biting at his very soul. It wasn't that far, and seemed a mostly straightforward journey...how did he manage to get so lost that she needed to come find him? Logically he understood - Coerthan blizzards are dangerous, capable of blinding a man to the nose on his own face, and sweeping snow across the valleys in drifts tall enough to cover a goobbue.

Emotionally, he just was glad Alisaie wasn't here to tease him for it - she would be right to, even.

Oh gods, Alisaie. He hadn't thought about what she would do if and when she learns of this. She and Ahzuvi had become such good friends. She would kill him if she found out how he'd been treating Ahzuvi all this time - last night included.

...

"I'm sorry."

He felt his heart skip multiple beats, and finally he looked up at the warrior of light with a curiosity writ plain on his face - and found Ahzuvi's crystal blue eyes meeting his once again.
He didn't have time to respond. Or maybe he did, but was so caught off guard that he wasted that time processing her comment. But by the time he opened his mouth to say something, she was speaking again.

"For all of this. I'm just... I'm sorry."

He watched that indescribable emotion flicker and fade, hearing that same vulnerability in her voice.

"I shouldn't have left you alone like that. I grew up in Coerthan winters, but I didn't-...it was careless of me."

His face must have said everything his voice could not - she continued, not needing his commentary to encourage her further.

"I don't-..." she hesitated, her brows knitting together as she had to look away to piece her thoughts. "I don't want anyone else to get hurt because of me."

Quieter, almost a whisper that he would have missed if he wasn't giving her his undivided attention.

"...I can't lose you, too."

...

Ahzuvi was not known to share certain parts of her life, leaving a noticeable gap in her stories whenever discussion would turn those directions. Only Thancred had supposedly pieced together even a vague idea, and those were thoughts he would never share with any of the Scions.

But Alphinaud listened with rapt attention as she spoke with an open heart, and a surprising gentleness towards him.

"I'm no stranger to losing everything. And I know how it feels - what you are feeling. That guilt, the responsibility. But you are here...we are here, and maybe we have a chance to fix things. But if you weren't here...I don't know what i would need to do. You make things better. You try to fix the broken, and right now the Scions are very broken."

"...but you are also my friend."

"So I can't lose you, too."

Day 3 - Push/Pull Ever since that fateful night finding sanctuary in Coerthas, the two had been nigh inseparable. Her loyalty to the Scions was unrivaled, but with him it had rapidly grown to be something deeper. Carved into her soul, holding her at his side like gravity. #wolphinaudweek2025
A colorful but faintly dreamy image in multiple parts.

Alphinaud reaches out to Ahzuvi across a gap in the composition, while she stands facing away from him. She sees him, has an expression of quiet sadness, and doesn't reach back to him. The side of her body facing away from the scene is on fire, lifting away and off the canvas.

Behind is a scene of Kholusia, with the floating Mt. Gulg in the distance, and the Ladder in the middle--- serving as a middle dividing line between both characters, but subtly indicating a connection between their silhouettes.

Behind each of them is a rectangular panel that changes the color of the background to resemble the snowy mountains of coerthas--- where the strongest part of their bond was formed.

Day 2 — Dream/Awake It was the first time he'd seen her so grievously wounded. Bleeding, bruised, broken. Burns that refused to heal. She could hardly stay awake, wracked by a fever that numbed her senses. But he could not heal the delirium that persisted through the night. #wolphinaudweek2025
A long image in two parts

On the left, asleeping Ahzuvi is held in Alphinaud's arms and lap while he heals her. Cloudy colors and patterns of a campfire and stars make for a comfortable space while surrounded by darkness.

Bright red blood, smoke, and flickers rise from her body (especially her head) while she sleeps, trailing away to the stylized shadow of a dragon against a deep red background. The smoke ends by resembling flames at the corners of the dragons mouth, and the same color indicates a closed eye that appears to be crying or bleeding.

colorful images of his beloved individual from his point of view, including—sitting beside her while she fishes in a sunny day in la noscea; the way her face scrunches up when she smiles, and her cheeks flush so easily; the way her lips curve in her gentle smiles; listening to her playing guitar by a campfire, as she loves every moment of it; watching her nap comfortably under a tree's shade; the way she stood fiercely against the wyrm Nidhogg, ready to move heaven and earth to fulfill his wish to save the azure dragoon.

Ending with a memory fading with blinding wisps of light—that same individual wounded, but looking more hurt by the shadow of an airship flying away.
