This week's repair showcase features ceiling repairs and cabinet replacements! This home had water damage and other forms of wear and tear taking a major toll, but with our team's help, they're much better off 😊 #SafeAtHome
Repair Showcase

Before
Image of ceiling with water damage

Water damage had done a number on this client’s ceiling, causing concern for the home’s overall stability if left untreated

After
Image of the newly-replastered ceiling

The bath leak causing the water damage was fixed, and new plaster has been applied on the ceiling! Before
Half-torn cabinet with a single cup inside

One of the cabinets in the client’s kitchen had practically fallen apart, only good for temporary, light storage

After
New cabinet installed in the old's place

Now, the unit has been fully replaced, made of solid materials and ready to make this kitchen that much happier!

This week's repair showcase is all about railings, a key safety feature for all homeowners, but especially those with mobility challenges. Our client's stairways are now that much more secure against fall hazards thanks to the team's hard work 😊
Repair Showcase (AHIP Logo)

Before
Image of a client's house from the front, with a front door connected to a staircase lacking railings

The lack of railings on this porch’s staircase can lead to harmful falls for elder/mobility-impaired homeowners

After
Newly-installed railings/banisters around the staircase leading to the front door

New banisters made from quality wood allow this client to travel to and from their house free of worry!
Before
Shot of the client's basement staircase,

Similarly, this staircase’s railing was poorly mounted, and offered little in the way of stability when heading to the basement

After
Shot of the same staircase with a newly-installed railing

Now, our client can reach every floor of their home with ease, keeping them safe and secure!

This week's repair highlight focuses on flooring and water heaters, two areas of home structure that are easy to forget about when running smoothly, but all too present when a snag arises. Thankfully for this AHIP client, such snags have been soundly put to rest!

The value of AHIP's work in the community runs deep, and we wanted to show some of the various ways in which these repairs have improved the lives of our neighbors 😊 How have home repairs made your own life easier recently? What if you couldn't afford them? That's what AHIP is here for!
AHIP’s FY25 Service Impact

Image of Hispanic AHIP clients

59% of AHIP clients came from disadvantaged communities

Black, Hispanic, and many more communities have historically struggled to gain equal access to housing; this makes every lost home that much more painful

Image of senior AHIP client in front of her home's front door

65% of AHIP households are home to seniors,
and 32% are home to children

Elder and minors each face greater risks from weather-induced illness & fall hazards

AHIP households saw an average energy-efficiency increase of 33%

For those living paycheck-to-paycheck, cutting utility costs can be crucial to long-term financial stability

"I feel very humbled to receive this help, and hope one day to be able to pay it forward." Our county client, Ms. H, spoke with us about how much this work means to her family. A donation to AHIP is a donation to stories like hers, and so many more!
How does AHIP ease the lives of our neighbors in need?

"I’m a single mother. I have two seniors, twin girls, and a son at PVCC. I try and keep up with as much as I can, and fix the things I’m able to, but there’s just expertise and knowledge that I don’t have.

It’s a relief to have AHIP come and address the things I don’t know, because safety is a major concern. I think it’s important to have an organization like this in your community, and that’s why I feel very fortunate to live in Albemarle.”

- Ms. H, County Homeowner

Thank you for all the work you put in to make a better life for your children, Ms. H!
