I enjoyed scumming up the Hostile universe a little with CY Borg's banned technology (body mods, nano-tech etc.) and Death in Space's cosmic horror. As a metaphor, imagine a post-punk band containing two members of Joy Division, one person from Sigue Sigue Sputnik, and Andrew Eldritch in his hat.
Two members of Joy Division in their shirts having a laughSigue Sigue Sputnik, in all their "glory"Andrew Eldritch in his hat.

The thing from The Thing: a truly awful amalgam of human, dogs and weird monster. It's up to no good.

Cthulhu turns up?
The cover of the tabletop role-playing game adventure, Musketeers versus Cthulhu: three musketeers stand at the foot of a rather tentacley M'Lady.

@morkticia.bsky.social I received The Amethyst Alcove. I have covered the zine and map in clear plastic book cover stuff (both sides of the map: no joke). The texts wil never die. The PCs will.
Is that Malcolm McDowell holding a cool TTRPG zine (The Amethyst Alcove) and its map? They've been covered in plastic book cover stuff. They are glorious. The guy in the silly hat may or may not be glorious, depending on the viewer.

(I'm inexpertly painting a War Wolf by proxywargamingaus.com at the moment. Very enjoyable)
A War Wolf Assault Beast for the wargame, Trench Crusade, made by ausproxygamingaus.com
It's a big, horrible werewolf with a circular saw for a face, spiky armour and dangling chains. It'll getcha, I'm afraid)

A photo of a mirror in a bathroom: no one is shown in its reflection,
(Bright cream room, large oval mirror above a marble-ish sink, potted plants on the mantle to the right, towel on the left. In the reflection: a closed white door and three towel racks)

Here are a few more
Close in pic of the trench and some of its denizens: a Heretic Legion warband in controversial green coloursReally close in: you can see the Chorister's lack of head. I chose to give him lots of dried blood on his upper body, because I like stuff like that. What do you think his name is/was. Hank? Stu?A side-on view of the trench. A couple of armed forces could have a truly awful time there for as long as they wanted

I used some pouring medium stuff for the first time today: I added some flooded shellholes to a 3' by 2' trench board.
Moody and mysterious, as if light by a descending flareDifferent lighting: I think the colours look nice in this one. Sorry to blow my own horn.
It reminds me of the cover art for the first God Machine album.

Steerpike from Gormenghast
Mervyn Peake's drawing of his character, Steerpike. He's a slim young man with short, floppy hair. He looks to one side: slyly? Resentfully?
Is that a bow tie that he's wearing? I never imagined him with a natty bow tie.

I had utterly forgotten that I had backed the physical version of this: an ace surprise!
A tired but noble man of a certain age smiles and gives a thumbs-up while holding a copy of the skirmish wargame, Legitimate Salvage. This is peak multi-tasking. I look like Tony Blair here, which is not my goal.

That might do it, I think.
A hand-made model bunker: I've painted it with a million layers, and a thousand highlights. It looks bombed-out and slightly repaired: I've stuck "corrugated metal" as a makeshift fix here and there.

A bit of progress/impatience
Another blurry photo of a home-made bit of model terrain: a ruined bunker made from polystyrene. It has had a bit of work done (waist-high walls to the flanks and centre) at the front.A slightly different view: a bit more top-down. It's rather indistinct, but perhaps it can be seen that I have added a ruined pillar in the "hall" of the bunker, and more waist-high walls adding partial cover near the side entrances/exits.

I have painted it in a mix of acrylic paint, (microwaved) dirt, incense ash, and PVA glue.
A blurry picture of a self-made, polystyrene, miniature, model, ruined bunker. Painted grey.

I have started making a ruined li'l bunker. Limited for size by the size of my polystyrene sheets. I used my rock texture roller. It'll do, when painted, as a bit of wargaming terrain. Fun to make, most importantly.

Slightly altered trench set-up.
A dirty looking wargaming table: there's a Trench Crusade artillery witch upto her usual hijinks (throwing bombs from Hell at people)Another bit of the table: you can see a few bits of Temu terrain and a li'l Goetic Warlock sneaking around. A lengthways view of the table: an L-shaped trench system surrounding a bit of no-man's land. Colourful cut-outs are in evidence. Ooh! It's lit as if a flare is falling from the sky, illuminating the scene of desperate struggle below. (You throw that bomb, Artillery Witch! Yeah!)

Dead Head with Dennis Lawson: absolute nightmare fuel for a young me.
The cover of the DVD version of mid-80s TV show, Dead Head. The cover is appropriately bleak, dark, and dominated by black and red. It was a ghastly show if my memory is correct.

I did not play; instead, I made moire terrain and stuff: trench-ladders and duckboards, and a bombed-out two-storey building-front.
A polystyrene model building: a two-storey, bombed-out frontThe rear of the model: it both looks okay and clearly styrofoamy

We seem to have chosen very similar looks for our artillery witches. Mine looks like a bruise.

More home-made WW1 simulationThree-quarter view of the trenchy game-table: looks cool tbhSide view: colours and textures very flattened for some reason. No-man's land is the right height though. Thanks to the few UK/Aus/US wargaming youtubers who inspired my trench squares.

Yes, I know my trenches are too high/my no-man's land is too low, but tough banana.
Home-made terrain of trenches flanking no-man's land. Trenches reinforced here and there with corrugated iron; in places it lies shredded by artillerySide-on view. The trenches should be lower down, yes, yes, I know. I'll get some free polystyrene from The Good Guys on Monday to raise up the central section (no-man's land)"Iso-metric view" of the narrow battlefield. I believe certain sections of opposing WW1 trench systems might have been almost this close to each other. Maybe, almost. It'd be about 30 metres here perhaps.

Top down: nice work with the shadows IMO. Is a flare going off and illuminating the scene? Or is another dawn breaking over the world?

Okay, folks. It's five pics. Here is the first.

Oddly reminiscent of Max Ernst's weird cyclops
A painting by Max Ernst: behind an oddly vibrantly-coloured, pastoral foreground, in which a naked female form can be seen reclining, a massive, looming, and ominously bland face lurks in a ghastly fashion. A huge cyclops. Ugh

A rather dark and out-of-focus picture of a self-made gaming tabe for a skirmish wargame: it resembles a muddied up field with blasted tree trunks and two trenches dug at the east and west edges. A rather hilly no man's land in the middle.

Whereas a good chunk of my actual personality is this fellow:
Sir Didymus, an utterly marvellous character from the film, Labyrinth. He's an eye-patch wearing, moustache-sporting knight, also a fox. (Others say a fox-terrier, exposing themselves to well-deserved scorn) Rides an old English Sheepdog called Ambosius.
