For development you can put some filters on your table with parameters, and then change the values once published, or when deploying to prod

Measure killer all the way just be careful with measures in field parameters which may not be used during analysis, but might be used depending on the user selection on the slicer. Not sure if it picks these correctly.

But it's not live connection when you have a local model. When you do, the local formula engine will figure out the dax query it needs to send to the remote model, send it, wait for response and combine will any other data caches before rendering the visual. It's like DAX DQ
