As we ramp up to #REF, there’s now REF-branded hair care to get you through the drama and anxiety (spotted in my local nail salon) #researchexcellenceframework #ukacademia #academiclife

30 mins of quiet ensued and he’d tracked down timetables on the library catalogue. “Off site storage too”, he exclaimed, cos he knows I love visiting our book & collections storage facility.

The idea of turkeys as pests is very confusing to the UK resident! Sign spotted in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Sign in some foliage. The sign says: private property do not feed the birds. It attracts rats and turkeys. Rats spear disease. Turkeys damage plants, shrubs and trees in the garden.

I can turn anything numismatic - so happy Maundy Thursday everyone! A day when the monarch traditionally hands out coins and washes the feet of those in need (the foot washing bit stopped a few hundred years ago). Maundy coins are some of my faves. These Charles II coins from Royal Mint Museum:
4 silver coins. 1st has 4 interlocked Cs, 2nd three Is with a crown above, 3rd has a crowned numeral 2, 4th has a crowned 1

A swift visit to the British Museum yesterday whilst at a conference at Senste House & a chance to visit some old faves - testaments to the power of international trade, travel and the flow of ideas in early medieval Europe
Close up of a museum object. It is a panel of ivory or cream coloured whale’s bone with carvings. Around the edge are panels with tunic script. In the centre there are three figures, probably the magi, proffering gifts to a Madonna and jesus on a throne. The design is not a naturalistic representation of people, and I had to google what was going on here.Photo of a hoard of silver objects including coins, broken parts of stamped bracelets, ingots and braided silver necklaces or bracelets. The image is full of these silver treasures giving a sense of a hoard of treasure, but the museum display leaves space between the objects showing them off individually.

Flashback to my dog’s summer resting sadface
A blonde cocker spaniel stares mournfully into the distance surrounded by spring flowers in bud and bloom. His long floppy ears reach his collar, he has dark eyes and a back nose and curly chest and leg hair.

Love this church. Here’s the same beastie from the front
The head of some kind of medieval beast from the top. The beast is the end of an arch in a church and the whitewashed and stone walls are visible. The beast has two teardrop shaped ears (or horns), a snout and curved lines across its head and nose

Oh god, museums are making digital content for Gen A now (and Gen A really into 90s culture and ABBA - same tbh) #MuseTech
Female speaker stands below her presentation which is a bright joyful montage on a yellow background. This Gen A montage includes thing I as Gen X don’t understand but I can recognise Hello Kitty, Ron Weasley, a tabby cat, Barbie’s feet in heels upside down, purple crystals and a Croc shoe

2. Tanks! Tanks! Tanks! Specifically the Tank Museum leaning into their niche audience. Look at this lovely niche audience diagram #MuseTech
Photo of a presenter standing below their presentation showing a circular diagram of many tank museum audience types including: war video games, military history, heritage engineering, war movie fans, military veterans, model makers and militaria collectors

Kew from above of 5 snowy Christmas trees in a large room. Above there are stacks of books behind glass.
