This is exactly what it is. Trump's policies and trade wars in his first term were countered by a generally strong economy. When the cracks started showing, Covid hit, giving him a scapegoat. This time, the economy was in a rebuilding phase, and it still held him off for 1.5 years.

Part of the issue is that traditionally, they've been insulated from the consequences. They vote in favor of deportations, because agriculture usually gets exemptions from E-verify systems. And the Feds generally didn't raid their farms. But now, they aren't getting special treatment.
