In a sort of Pinky and the Brain situation with bedtime for my toddler. No matter how badly things go off course, by 6PM the next night I’m sure that tonight, we’re going to be ready by 9PM.

In the seat behind him an old lady is sitting on the outside seat with the window seat empty and no one asked her to move in a seat either 🫠 the woman standing beside the seat had a red tag with a white cross on her bag. It just makes me feel really sad.

On a train where a guy is lying across three seats asleep. The train is crowded with people standing and everyone is super aware of this guy but no one tries to wake him up. As a society I think this level of aversion to interaction with a stranger is incredibly unhealthy.

Yet there are trans people here, just generally living very lowkey in my experience. The thing that might make it seem appealing is that trans ppl aren’t scapegoat de jour like they are in other places. Right now that’s all foreigners, so for that reason moving here to escape bigotry is laughable.

OpenAI is a menace. Two recent stories make that clearer than ever. One day you have Sam Altman denigrating humanity to defend AI. The next, WSJ reveals OpenAI could have alerted Canadian police of a potential mass shooter, but refused pressure from employees. That person went on to kill 8 people.

I was watching a video where two young farmers break down each party's policies re: agriculture and was surprised to learn that Sanseito is apparently big with the crunchy crowd? Supporting all organic produce. My image of a Sanseito supporter was a middle-aged man who reads Shonen Jump in a kissa.

Delighted with these children’s books from FeatherHeart bookshop in Tokyo. So hard to find good children’s books for the world we live in today (and not all twee classics from 40 years ago before neo-liberalism destroyed everything).

I went to a local event for parents about sex education this week. It was the third of three events and this one was focused on sexual minorities and also touched on the intersection with disability. It was mostly discussion based and it was nice to talk with other open minded and thoughtful parents

We were walking to a small local fireworks festival tonight when two Osaka girlos in hoodies over bikinis passed us. My 2 year old waved and they waved back. Then she held out her hand and one of them took it and walked all the way to the venue with us. My daughter was delighted. It was so sweet.

OpenAI will, starting in 2028, have to start paying $30bn a year to Oracle, $28bn to Microsoft for Azure, and also $2.9bn to CoreWeave for compute. That’s $60.9 billion *in compute costs alone*. This company is an absolute joke and should be treated as such. www.theinformation.com/articles/ope...
OpenAI’s planned shift from Microsoft to Stargate wouldn’t happen overnight. The company’s spending on Microsoft-owned data centers should ramp up significantly in the next few years, more than doubling from $13 billion this year to $28 billion in 2028. The spending forecast is based on contracts signed between the two companies, OpenAI indicated. OpenAI could end up spending more with Microsoft for data centers than it indicated in the forecasts if Microsoft chooses to build additional data center capacity through 2030.

Rhubarb in this climate is very daring. Basil can just be made into a batch of pesto but you could also just let it go to seed for pollinators (assuming you’re flat extremely high up). In any case there’s still space for more plants 🌻🌼🌺🌿

A highlighted except from The Intersectional Environmentalist: “queerness exists in nature all around us. nature never gives us binaries, either/ors, male or female, black or white, gay or straight. Instead, nature gives us queerness and fluidity, metamorphosis, change and magical infinite variety.”
