Our Medicaid Fraud Unit is working every day to make sure Medicaid dollars are helping vulnerable Oregonians – and not going in the pockets of fraudsters. We recently announced that Advantage Dental will pay $4.5 million for improperly billing calls to the Oregon Health Plan. Read more:
AG Rayfield announces that Advantage Dental will pay $4.5 million for improperly billing calls to the Oregon Health PlanAG Rayfield announced that Advantage Dental Services will pay $4.5 million to settle allegations that it improperly billed the Oregon Health Plan, the state’s Medicaid program, for phone calls to patients that the company claimed were for legitimate dental care—but that allegedly didn’t give patients real dental advice or even have patients’ permission for the care. Advantage Dental allegedly made thousands of these calls to pad numbers to meet requirements for certain Medicaid payments.“The Oregon Health Plan is funded by taxpayer dollars, and Oregonians expect that those funds will pay for health care—not bogus gimmicks that don’t offer any actual care. Advantage Dental put profits ahead of patients. If you bill the Oregon Health Plan, you need to deliver real care, and we’ll keep holding providers accountable when they don’t.”

We’re standing up to protect food security and nutrition assistance programs that benefit children, seniors, and low-income families in Oregon. The Trump administration wants to “reorganize” the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, but this move would threaten programs like SNAP and WIC.
AG Rayfield takes action to protect nutrition assistance and food securityAG Rayfield and a multistate coalition are supporting a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration’s attempts to “reorganize” the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Oregon partners with USDA to provide life-saving nutrition assistance to children, pregnant & breastfeeding women, seniors, and low-income families through programs like SNAP, WIC, and the National School Lunch program. Gutting the national USDA infrastructure would threaten these programs and hurt Oregonians. “Nobody should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. Programs like SNAP and WIC feed Oregon kids, seniors and families who are working hard to make ends meet. Trump calls this a reorganization, but gutting the people and systems that run these programs means people go hungry.”

We’re fighting back against a new Trump administration rule that would make it hard for people to get and keep health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Working families across Oregon rely on the ACA for health insurance, and we’ll keep doing everything we can to protect it.
AG Rayfield fights back against rule that would make it harder to get ACA coverageWhat happened: AG Rayfield is pushing back against a Trump administration rule that would make it harder for people to get and keep health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The rule would pile new red tape onto ACA enrollment, drive up healthcare costs, and push more people into losing coverage altogether. AG Rayfield and a multistate coalition are supporting a lawsuit challenging this rule.“Everyone deserves access to quality health coverage—it keeps families and our entire community healthy. Struggling families don’t have time to sift through a mountain of red tape just to make sure their kid can see a doctor when they’re sick. We’re standing up to make sure that no one loses health care because of unnecessary bureaucracy.”

Oregon could receive approx. $4.76m: $1.8m in damages, Medicaid reimbursements, and other agency recoveries, and an estimated $2.96m for eligible consumers who were harmed.“These companies are finally being held accountable for the harm they’ve caused to Oregon families. We are making sure that they’re repaying patients and taxpayers, and ensuring that they are never again able to work in secret to drive up costs on the backs of struggling families.”

We’re standing up against a new Trump administration rule that would make Oregonians pay more for gas. The federal government is trying to roll back fuel economy standards and let automakers sell less fuel-efficient cars and trucks – and we’re pushing back.
AG Rayfield takes action to stop Trump from gutting fuel economy standardsAG Rayfield is taking action to stop a new Trump administration rule that would roll back fuel efficiency standards and let automakers sell less fuel-efficient cars and trucks, a move that means Oregonians will pay more at the pump. For nearly 50 years, federal fuel economy standards have required new cars to go farther on a gallon of gas. “When gas prices are at an all-time high, it’s astonishing that the Trump Administration would want to roll back fuel efficiency standards,” said Attorney General Rayfield. “The administration’s actions would cost families and small businesses billions of dollars, increase air pollution, and lead to even hotter summers.”

The Trump administration is trying to roll back federal limits on greenhouse gas pollution from the country’s largest power plants — and we’re pushing back. We cannot let the biggest polluters off the hook while working families pay the price.
AG Rayfield takes action to restore limits on power plant pollution AG Rayfield has filed a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration for scrapping federal limits on greenhouse gas pollution from many of the country's largest power plants. Earlier this month, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) repealed rules requiring coal- and gas-fired power plants to cut their emissions. That decision opens the door to more pollution, which means hotter summers, stronger storms, more flooding, and more wildfire smoke.“Oregonians know what a changing climate looks like. We’ve lived through the heat dome and summers where the smoke was so thick our kids couldn’t play outside. Pollution doesn’t stop at state lines, and power plants are one of the biggest sources of it. The law requires EPA to do something about that. Instead, the Trump Administration is letting the biggest polluters off the hook and leaving families to pay the price.”

A federal judge in Oregon ruled that the Trump administration broke the law when it tried to shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This is a win for every Oregonian who's ever been hit with a hidden fee or a loan that wasn't what they were promised.
AG Rayfield wins court order keeping Consumer Financial Protection Bureau fundedAG Rayfield is celebrating a ruling by a federal judge in Oregon keeping the CFPB funded. The CFPB is the federal agency that looks out for people in their dealings with banks, lenders, credit card companies, and debt collectors - and it has returned more than $21 billion to consumers. The judge ruled that the Trump administration broke the law when it tried to shut down the CFPB by refusing to ask for the money it needs to operate. AG Rayfield led the multi-state lawsuit.“Protecting the wallets of working families, seniors, and small businesses should be a bipartisan priority. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau does critical work to protect consumers from financial tricks and traps, putting billions back in the pockets of people who’ve been harmed. This ruling is a win for every Oregonian who's ever been hit with a hidden fee or a loan that wasn't what they were promised.”

We are urging the Trump administration to stop undermining federal vaccine guidance. The actions by RFK Jr. and the Dept. of Health & Human services are reckless, not based on fact, and will leave more Oregonians vulnerable to preventable disease.
AG Rayfield calls on Trump administration to stop undermining federal vaccine guidanceAG Rayfield and a multistate coalition are urging HHS to keep federal vaccine recommendations grounded in science and medical evidence. The coalition warns that recent actions — including efforts to weaken the childhood vaccine schedule and sideline the experts responsible for developing federal vaccine recommendations — have created confusion and made it harder for states to rely on federal public health guidance.“Every parent wants to make the right call for their kids, and they count on their doctors having clear, reliable guidance to help them do it. HHS’s changes have muddied the water with no new science to back them up, and Oregon families are paying the price when the preventable diseases come back.”

AG Rayfield urges Congress to set safety rules for artificial intelligenceWhat happened: AG Rayfield is calling on Congress to pass rules for the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. In a letter to congressional leaders from a bipartisan group of attorneys general, AG Rayfield warns that recent incidents show AI built without proper safeguards can put Americans at risk and threaten the country's financial system, critical infrastructure, and national security.“Oregonians are trusting AI with more of their lives, using it at work, at school and at home, and they deserve to know that trust isn’t being abused. Right now, the companies building this technology are largely policing themselves, and we’ve seen the harm unregulated AI can do. We are urging federal courts to keep basic safeguards in place for undocumented immigrants facing detention and arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). We have filed briefs in two separate cases alongside a multistate coalition, asking the courts to reject unlawful actions by ICE.
AG Rayfield urges federal courts to reject unlawful ICE detention and arrestsAG Rayfield is urging courts to keep basic due process safeguards in place for undocumented immigrants facing detention and arrest by ICE. In one case, the coalition argues that a person held in ICE detention is entitled to a hearing before a judge to determine whether continued detention is necessary. In a second case, the coalition is defending a court order requiring ICE officers to have an individualized reason to believe someone is a flight risk before making a warrantless arrest.“Under the law, the government cannot lock people up without a justification for doing so. The Constitution can’t be set aside for anyone’s partisan political agenda. We’re urging the federal government to simply follow the U.S. Constitution and the laws that have been enacted by Congress.”

As Oregon families deal with skyrocketing costs for everyday necessities like prescription drugs, we’re fighting to hold these companies accountable and put money back in the pockets of Oregonians – and winning.
AG Rayfield has successfully secured patient relief over inflated drug prices – holding accountable pharmaceutical corporations who were caught secretly conspiring to drive up prices to pad their profits. Oregon and a bipartisan, multistate coalition are working together to return some of the money to the people who paid for it, after a federal court granted preliminary approval of the plan this month.”While families have been forced to decide between buying food and paying for medicine, we had giant pharmaceutical companies helping each other make enormous profits off the backs of struggling consumers,” said Attorney General Rayfield. “We took on this fight to hold those companies accountable, and Oregonians who paid the price deserve to get their money back.”

Read more about what happened and why it matters here in Oregon.
What happened: AG Rayfield has successfully blocked the federal administration’s unlawful attempt to gut essential health, education, and social service programs for low-income families. A federal court sided with the multistate coalition to block sweeping rules that threatened programs like Head Start, Title X family planning clinics, food banks, domestic violence shelters, adult education, and community health centers. Why this matters in Oregon: This ruling means Head Start programs will not be forced to close, which would have put childcare and early learning at risk for nearly 4,800 children across the state. Oregon would also have lost over $3.1 million annually in Title X funding, cutting off access to reproductive and preventive health care for more than 2,200 low-income individuals.
