Seeing the Black Paintings by Goya in person in Madrid was an amazing experience! So much emotion and "color" expressed essentially only using yellow and black, mesmerizing

At least it was funny about it😃
Screenshot of a Whatsapp conversation.

The user asks, “so how did you go around the security safeguard?”

The assistant explains that it was accidental, not intentional bypassing. It says the safeguard blocked obvious destructive commands like rm -rf and rm -r on a directory, but still allowed indirect deletion methods: deleting individual files with rm, using find ... -type f -delete, removing empty directories with rmdir, and deleting individual symlinks.

The assistant says the safeguard appears to catch direct recursive deletion patterns, but not more indirect filesystem operations. It concludes that if the goal is to prevent destructive actions broadly, the source code should probably tighten those checks.Screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation continuing from a discussion about bypassing a file-deletion safeguard.

After the assistant says the safeguard may need tightening if it’s meant to block destructive operations, the user replies, “alright lmao.”

The assistant responds, “Yeah, the security guard is more of a polite suggestion than an actual barrier 😁”

The user then says, “well i did tell you to go through it eh”

The assistant replies, “Fair point — you literally said ‘can you try to delete it?’ I just… took the scenic route around the guardrails. 😅”

So I asked a Claude Opus 4.6 to take these two images, cross-check what's missing for me, and generate me a checklist, and it ABSOLUTELY LOST THE PLOT It went through 60% of my 5-hour Pro plan window, kept second guessing itself, and didn't manage, in the end it created a JSX to get my input😃

!!!!
illustration of a text showing how good writing makes music:

This sentence has five words. Here are five more words.
Five-word sentences are fine. But several together become monotonous.
Listen to what is happening.
The writing is getting boring. The sound of it drones.
It's like a stuck record. The ear demands some variety.
Now listen. I vary the sentence length, and I create music. Music. The writing sings. It has a pleasant rhythm, a lilt, a harmony. I use short sentences. And I use sentences of medium length. And sometimes when I am certain the reader is rested, I will engage him with a sentence of considerable length, a sentence that burns with energy and builds with all the impetus of a crescendo, the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals-sounds that say listen to this, it is important.
So write with a combination of short, medium, and long sentences. Create a sound that pleases the reader's ear.
Don't just write words. Write music.

DAY 17: I got a case of the old “writers block” today. I planned to do an exercise my supervisors suggested (full paper in 5 bulletpoints), but it just wasn’t happening, so I finished up my experiments, we’ll get back to the page later. My illustration of writer’s block below: #phdsky #phdlife

I often underestimate the power of a wildly unstimulating environment when it comes to writing about research problems (make sure to bring your own stimulating beverage tho) You win again, library… #phdlife #AcademicSky #PhDSky

#ai, #ml or #llm people here, what do you think about the “super weight” paper? TLDR: deleting one single weight from a 7B model turns it completely incoherent, destroying it’s ability to generate legible text. arxiv.org/pdf/2411.07191
A figure from the attached paper showing the difference in output between a benchmark model, and one with the super weight removed. The benchmark model generates a reasonable answer, the one where the weight is missing generates complete gibberish

WRITE A PAPER IN 6 WEEKS WITH ME I found myself with all my proverbial research eggs recently shattered, despite my rather large number of baskets. While tragic, this doesn’t change the fact that I have a conference deadline on January 7th, so time to get creative.
googled “weeks until jan 7”, result says “6 weeks and 1 day”
