Between 2022 and 2026 there were 36% more games so if teams performed the same on the extra games, a 7 point difference in 2022 would be a 10 point difference in 2026

One tricky thing is that the first 3 weeks or so the rankings are super random/meaningless. So being in the bottom half in week 15 means a lot more than being in the bottom half in week 1. Could cut off the first few weeks or do something else to account for that though

I've compared final standings/points year to year but comparing the end of the previous season to the beginning of the next is hard because there are so few games so there are lots of ties and randomness

Alison Gale @agale.bsky.social · 27/04/2026
Yeah, I had to do a whole shuffle when Spirit dropped the red/blue for black and I had Gotham take blue but tried to keep it different enough from the KC blue. Glad the two need teams are different greens. For a while almost every team was a shade of red/blue which was the worst

Bringing back the bump chart for the 2026 NWSL season and so far its been a lot of chaos. Some teams have a game in hand.

Lots of movement so far but San Diego has been in 1st the last two weeks and Portland in Second. Utah jumped over Seattle with a win. Louisville and Boston are at the bottom but Kansas city sits just above them.

NWSL kicks off tonight! This offseason there was lots of player movement through trades and free agency as two new teams joined the league
Chart showing where players moved in the offseason and how many moved between teams or entered/exited the league. Portland, Orlando, and Seattle retained the most players while Kansas City, Lousiville, North Carlina and San Diego retained the least. Denver and Boston relied heavily on external players joining the league.

Probably would be possible to do on the county level. Would need coordinates for each county and the population. My guess would be Houston is the densest but definitely curious

Updated the map of which #NWSL team is closest to each point in the US. Boston fills in New England and Denver fills the large gap between Utah and Kansas City
Map of the contiguous US with concentric circles marking the locations of all the NWSL teams. It highlights for each point which team is closest to those folks. With Boston and Denver added, some of the big gaps were filled.
