Character Customisation in my 2D RPG Afterglow! Thousands of possibilities (more spritesheets than you'd believe). #indiegamedev #indiedev #indiegame #indiegames

Put a transport shuttle in my sci-fi RPG for fast travel. Though I want it to be the luxury method of transport so tickets aren't cheap 🪙 #indiegamedev #gamedev #indiegame #indiegames #sandbox

One of the benefits of making a futuristic sci-fi RPG is getting to add cool things like transport ships. I'll fly when I get the animations in. #gamedev #indiegame #indiegames #indiegamedev #scifi

Everyone seemed to enjoy the nanite construction, and so did I. So I expanded it to work with pretty much all world objects in my game ✨Now you can both have your own house & decorate the surrounding area. #indiegame #indiegames #gamedev #unity

The Duelist profession, one of 4 combat professionals, allows you to engage in stylish sword combat with the enemy. Your blade can be energised with nanotech which adds bonus damage. The colour of the nanotech totally customisable of course. #indie #gaming #pcgames #indiegame #steam #games

Replaced my old sword animations with a new more dueling/fencing focused feel. Even the idle pose is cool. Will post a vid tomorrow. #fencing #duel #indiegame #indiegames #gamedev #pixelart

A few more vehicle colour variants. In order to appease my rendering system your legs will have to be tucked into the back. I'm a fan of the blue/orange myself. #indiegamedev #gamedev #indiegame #pixelart #gaming

Afterglow is now big enough to require a vehicle, so here we are. Made in Blender then pixelated into a sprite. Sort of reminds me of wipeout? I need to add a lot more detail but it's a start. #indiegamedev #gamedev #indiegame #pixelart #gaming

Decided to spend the week making a stock market 📈 in Afterglow. The market will be affected by certain events/actions in game. Now I need to make sure it isn't a guaranteed way to speedrun yourself to a million credits. Made the music myself too. #indiegamedev #indiedev #gamedev

It's easy to get a bit overwhelmed and lost as an indie/solo dev. Looking back at the work you've done genuinely helps, I recommend it. I spent a lot of 2025 thinking how I'm barely making progress - I think my brain lied. Happy new year! #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev

A comparison of a year's progress in a pixel RPG indie game. It shows the inventory system as well as the world evolving from a fairly basic system to a more polished world.

Pretty sure my irl cat had an existential crisis watching me animate this. And occasionally had a swipe at it 🐾🐈 #pixelart #blender #unity #indiedev #gamedev #screenshotsaturday

One of the most important steps that any game developer ever makes. Adding a cat to the game. Ginger because I too am ginger 🐈 #indiedev #gamedev #pixelart #blender #unity

Melding, also known as skill learning/forgetting. This is probably worth watching with volume turned up. #indiegamedev #indiedev #solodev #logicpro #pcgaming

Welcome to the Melding chair. Learn skills through absorbing the knowledge that others already possess. Of course you still have to prove you should have access to that knowledge. Cannot be used without a skill pass! #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev

I've been in programming hell for a month, and now I'm back. Anyway, here's a giant lizard chasing me. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev

0123

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 27/07/2025

Decided to do something entirely different this weekend and make a very big lizard (think house size). The slowless hopefully shows that off a bit. Need to pixelate it and put it ingame next. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev #pixelart

0183

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 20/07/2025

Added a subtle object highlight 🟨 & a new radial menu for when you open up additional options on objects. It's fun finishing a huge feature like a character creator & then getting to these little bits that add a lot of character themselves. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev #pixelart

0204

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 17/07/2025

Finally, a fully working character creator. Full UI sound effects & music. Very glad to have this done. Need to add in default clothing options next but this is a big milestone hit. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev #pixelart

0213

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 11/07/2025

Who knew making a UI keyboard for controller support would take so long. Happy with the result though. Music was my own creation too. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev #pixelart

0133

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 05/07/2025

A still work in progress but much further along Character Creator. All the changeable bits are in place, what you see is what you can actually choose. I'll be hooking it up to the actual data & model tomorrow 👀 #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev #pixelart #screenshotsaturday

0224

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 01/07/2025

A very much work in progress character creator. Quite fun to build so far. You'll be able to change quite a bit, and not be locked into those changes. The technology exists to change virtually anything in the world of Afterglow. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev #pixelart

A character creator in a 2d pixelart game. It shows a character on a platform with a body and skin picker to the left.

Added trails to Nanoflow abilities as well as improved bullet trails. Unfortunately (for them) the dancers have turned into my target dummies. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev

2254

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 28/06/2025

New additions: hit impact effects & trails to bullets. Also made bullets glow a bit more. The colour of a weapon's projectile will probably be customisable, or at the very least change depending on which weapon you're using. #indiedev #gamedev #pcgaming #rpg #indiegamedev

Afterglow @afterglowgame.co.uk · 26/06/2025

Rifle skills. Obviously not complete but it's the most fleshed out skill thus far. I was going to make the ability icons coloured too but the monochrome sort of fits the UI. #indiedev #indiegamedev #gamedev #pixelart #madewithunity

A game UI showing skills on the left and abilities on the right. The selected skill is Rifles, and the selected ability is volley. Other abilities such as grenades and bashes are also visible. Ability information like damage numbers are also shown.
