Also Kavanaugh demonstrating the de facto bankruptcy of originalism: "Ah, well, we can make exceptions to the plain text of the Constitution because clearly people in 1868 didn't anticipate temporary visitors to America!"
Screenshot of Kavanaugh concurrence: Here, that interpretive principle would support
additional exceptions for children born to foreign citizens
unlawfully or temporarily in the country.5
First, significant illegal immigration into the United
States is a new circumstance that was largely unknown as
of 1868 and that the Framers of the Fourteenth
Amendment could not have fully anticipated. And the
Framers likely would not have anticipated (and presumably
would not have intended) the odd result of granting a
substantial birthright citizenship benefit to (i) those foreign
citizens who violate U. S. immigration law and illegally
enter or overstay and then have children in the United
States over (ii) those foreign citizens who follow U. S.
immigration law and have children in their home countries
while seeking to lawfully immigrate to the United States.
Nor presumably would they have wanted to grant
constitutional birthright citizenship to children of foreign
citizens unlawfully in the country while simultaneously
denying constitutional birthright citizenship to children of
tribal American Indians. So too, the issue of temporary
visitors who give birth in the United States presents a new
and different circumstance than in 1868 given the
significant changes in immigration laws and travel.

I harbor a special disdain for Gorsuch here, who demonstrates awareness of what the administration is trying to do (and has already done) and why that's bad but just dances around it with a "ah but you didn't ask the question right".
Screenshot of Gorsuch dissent: Still, I wonder: Is a
child born here to parents who have long chosen to make
this Nation their permanent home not a citizen under the
Fourteenth Amendment solely because his parents’ pres-
ence violates statutory law? If those parents are not domi-
ciled here, then where are they domiciled? And if the an-
swer is nowhere, how can we reconcile that conclusion with
this Court’s longstanding recognition that every person is
domiciled somewhere?

You might appreciate this particular MEMORY.md failure.
What happened? Why did you incorrectly assume no CHANGELOG existed?

The Glob search for **/CHANGELOG* returned a huge number of results from node_modules/ and truncated before reaching the project root. I saw no project-level match in the truncated output and incorrectly concluded the file didn't exist.

I should have either: Used a more targeted glob like CHANGELOG* (without **/) Run git ls-files CHANGELOG.md to check if it's tracked Followed the lesson already in my memory file, which warns about exactly this scenario

The irony is that my MEMORY. md already had this exact lesson reco rded. I didn't follow my own notes.

Futzin' with a little reminder / alarm clock UI with a non-linear slider. One of those things that feels conceptually nice but not sure yet if the extra confusion over a simple linear slider is worth it. #buildInPublic
A "New reminder" modal with "Check for laundry gnomes..." as placehodler text. The interface shows a timer for 30m from now with the time (4:02 PM) visible in large inputs. There is a non-linear slider with 1m / 15m / 1h / 6h / 24h spaced evenly apart.

From the Wikipedia article on CA HSR. "We started building before we had a plan because otherwise the fed money goes away" is such an American dysfunction.
Screenshot of text: The major factor contributing to delays and cost overruns has been the difficulty in acquiring land parcels necessary for construction. In order for actual construction of structures such as grade separations, trenches, and viaducts to start, land for both the structures themselves and for access and logistics have to be secured; utilities (electric, telecommunications, gas, and wet) moved; and impact on existing traffic mitigated, such as by temporarily or permanently relocating busy roads or freight rail tracks. In 2012, the Authority decided to issue construction contracts, even though design was only 15% complete, partially to comply with spending deadlines for the ARRA funding. However, this implied that the final sizes of bridges, overpasses and track beds were unknown, leading to incomplete identification of land rights to be secured.

Sometimes you accidentally lose a pinned tab because you unintentionally navigate to a different site without opening a new tab. Tab Bag remembers the original pinned site, so you can quickly restore a pinned tab to its default
100
Andrew F @aftd.dev · 05/09/2025
One annoyance with Chrome's pinned tabs is that they automatically launch when you start up your browser, eating up memory even if you don't open them. Tab Bag lets you pin tabs as a lightweight placeholder that doesn't launch the pinned site until you click on it. 3/5
100
Andrew F @aftd.dev · 05/09/2025
Here it is syncing pinned tabs across windows. It's not quite the same as how Arc Favorites live across spaces (each window has its own instance), but it at least provides quick access. You can toggle it on and off per window too. 2/5

Contrast this to the "historic" Murphy Ave. Part of it is yes, the street is closed off now, but also everything is smaller and closer together and it feels nice!

I will say that Sunnyvale hasn't quite nailed mixed use buildings. Like, the residential stuff is fine but the commercial space is just way too big? There's no reason a Melt needs to be this tall.

I mean, in the example making the rounds today, the guy actually listed multiple companies on his LinkedIn at the same time so ... ask about that? news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4444...
Post on Hacker News from dazzeloid: he's a really talented engineer, crushed our interviews. the funny thing was that he actually had multiple companies on his linkedin at the same time, including ours. we just thought they must have been internships or something and he never updated them (he felt a bit chaotic). but then it turned out he was working at all of them simultaneously.
worked for us for almost a year and did a solid job (we also let him go when we discovered the multiple jobs)

Some LLMs (like ChatGPT and Gemini) can trigger an old fashioned web search which they then summarize. The ask is that the UI show this as a separate step. In this example, Gemini cites a source but it doesn't tell me the search term (nor does it quote the actual relevant part of the source)
Screenshot of Gemini result:

Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815, was the result of a combination of factors:

1. Delayed Attack: Napoleon waited until midday to launch his main attack, allowing the ground to dry after heavy rain. This crucial delay gave Marshal Blücher's Prussian forces more time to march to Wellington's aid.

After the first point is an expanded footnote listing website references. In this case, we see "Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo caused in part by Indonesian volcani..." from www.imperial.ac.uk.
