Let’s go a step further and note that this same trend is present in the US: multiple conservative white men don’t just have nonwhite partners, their partners are of ASIAN descent specifically This can tell us a lot about which racial groups see anti-Blackness as an essential part of assimilation

Absentee ballots were one way Black voters protected themselves from being assaulted on Election Day. When Lamar Smith was murdered in broad daylight in Brookhaven, Mississippi in 1955, he was helping Black voters fill out absentee ballots. If you don’t know the history, you won’t connect the dots
