Reparations are not just about compensating for the past. The violence of colonialism did not end with independence. Gendered dispossession, reproductive coercion, and forced labour continue to shape the realities of African people today. 🎥 youtu.be/W4Obr_rYTH0?...

As Sylvia Tamale's argues, colonial regimes didn't just take land and labour, they imposed rigid, hierarchical definitions of woman & man onto African societies that hadn't organised gender that way before. That imposition is part of what #reparations has to address. 🔗 rewib.org/resources/to...

One of the report's clearest interventions is FFP as normative global praxis is incomplete without African perspectives. Not as an afterthought to add but as a structural gap in how the whole concept has been theorised. Read it here: 🔗 rewib.org/resources/af...

The UN General Assembly has adopted Ghana’s resolution declaring the transatlantic slave trade the gravest crime against humanity. Argentina, Israel, and USA voted against, while many Global North countries abstained. That is precisely where a decolonial Afro-feminist lens becomes non-negotiable.

Last week, we discussed women’s bodies and labour as sites of colonial violence, why reparations cannot be charity or symbolism, and how neoliberalism, extractivism and climate injustice continue colonial harm. Reparations must repair lives, not just history. Watch 📺 youtu.be/W4Obr_rYTH0?...

Colonial gendered violence was not incidental. Women’s bodies and labour were central sites of control, violence, and extraction across Africa. African women’s bodies were not only controlled under colonial rule, they were sites where colonial violence was enacted and normalized - Njoki Wamai
