I can almost guarantee Preston Manning has never given a thought to Indigenous rights in his entire career.

It's not a stock type of position but Sportsplex just announced their summer camp counselor openings and said it was age 15+.

Oh! I am signed up to do this in a few weeks. How was it? And glad to see it likely won't be 12 full hours.

“We must be prepared to defend our sovereignty-not just with military spending, but with a population that is engaged, trained and ready.” Great piece by @petermacleod.bsky.social about how Canada needs a Civil Defence Force where every Canadian has a role to play. 🇨🇦💪 thetyee.ca/Opinion/2025...

This is a fantastic series and should be part of every school's curriculum. We watched it with my son up through to the end of WWII & all learned a lot. The scale of this production was really ahead of its time.

I love subways but it will never happen in Halifax. The city is built on granite and pyritic slate that requires blasting and trucking to an under-salt water removal site. Because of this, the cost to create a single underground parking spot is ~ $30,000.

The more I hear about Queens Marque restaurants the less I want to support them. The food is always good but I can't see my way to supporting illegal work practices like this. I see a lot of online chatter about them confiscating tips as well. www.reddit.com/r/halifax/s/...

After what the NS govt did to decimate municipal planning & coastal protection, I am totally on board with the fed govt forcing Houston's regime to do the barest minimum to combat climate change.

We tried Bedford Appliance warehouse a couple times and it was never worth the effort of getting there with their limited hoyrs. Enjoy your workhorse stove that will last for years 🙂

Waking up to no power threw my entire day off. I am used to easing into the morning with my Nespresso. I've now been up for 2 hours and only getting my coffee now.

Oil tank is gone, furnace is gone, massive new hot water heater is operational. Onwards to a new furnace! In the meantime we have various little electric heaters scattered through the house to keep things warm. Thank god for our fireplace.

Our connection to the oil tank has been cut. No more fossil fuels for us! Plus, our new hot water heater is massive.

Heat Pump Installation Day One: Frantic shovelling out of the driveway, sidewalk and road as the plow did not go down our side yet. Workers currently draining hot water tank - if I'd known it was going today I'd have taken a long luxurious bath.

On a related note, does anyone know oil delivery places that will bring just a small amount? Our usual places does a minimum of 350 litres and we should only need enough for a week or so.

We are down to one eighth so I am very stressed. We originally thought this was all going to be done before year end (2023) so by now it's hard to see the end goal anymore.

I will call them tomorrow to ask about contingency plans. But We are almost out of oil so I need to plan in case it doesn't happen. Otherwise we will have no heat within a few days.

I have no idea when they will be able to rebook us. In meantime I have topped up oil once and will need to do it again soon, still paying $300/month for this pod, can't use our driveway. Oh, and the basement insulation can't happen until the heat pump is done. So that's ANOTHER delay.
110
aetotten.bsky.social @aetotten.bsky.social · 08/02/2024
OK, fine it is busy & everyone is getting this done. We stopped oil delivery, still have pod. Eletrical upgrade done mid-Jan, FINALLY today were were going to get the heat pump. Yesterday they called to cancel bc work team has Covid.

aetotten.bsky.social @aetotten.bsky.social · 08/02/2024
Originally we were told to expect all the work done by end of year - 2023 that is. So we rented a storage pod, moved everything out of basement in late Oct. To find out with NS Power & contractor availability, we wouldn't get anything done until this winter.

Heat pump conversion rant. We were supposed to have our oil furnace replaced with a heat pump today. This has been months coming. We had the energy assessment done in July, quotes in Sept, all the funding application stuff in Oct/Nov. It's been a journey.

Yes, it is a climate change thing. Growing up here in the 80s we always had snow and frozen lakes starting in December. It's like our seasons have all been delayed by a month now.
