Something I have realised, but I feel like in a lot of stories, especially from Asia, when a character gets saved by someone they're close to, they get very pessimistic for a while. A person getting saved by their crush? They may suddenly say it's not worth it.

i feel like we hate on cliches too much, and use the word cliche as an insult or a con in terms of writing but things are only cliche because they're good, they've only become cliches because people love them so much, i don't mind cliches if they're done well enough honestly
