Had an idea of how to store my bike more efficiently in the garage, bought one item, and somehow it all worked great first try. A delightful rarity.

Finally got a really nice representation of Colorado in my terrain artwork process - there was real effort to make sure the tallest mountains showed up well. But I am very happy with the result! (If you want one, see scaledindustries.com/products/col...) California is next, and it's going well...

Went to see how to turn off Apple Intelligence on the new MacOS version and... it's already turned off because it can't handle the OS being set to en_US but Siri being set to en_GB. Handy.

Broke the seal on allowing an LLM access to personal data - my food/macros logging, mostly so I can vaguely describe what I had to eat and it'll actually do it properly (fuzzy, low consequence task that fits an LLM, I think). It did then immediately slam me for eating a choc muffin. Good, I think?

No car this side of the Cook Strait but that’s no issue - caught the rather decent train to Paekākāriki and enjoyed a nice 10km along the Escarpment Track!

Sad I can't be at #djangoconus this week but I chose #pyconau this year after a few years of missing it. It will be the very first Djangocon US I have not attended, remarkably, but my role in the framework is also very minimal these days, so mostly a loss for me not being able to see everyone!

After 2,150km of driving and 130km of hiking, I am finally on the ferry across to Wellington. It’s been almost perfect pacing for a road trip for me; not sure I’ll drive the whole way next time, and focus more on longer hikes in the lower South Island, but it’s been really worth it this time.

Final big driving section today up to Nelson, which fortunately had lovely weather, and I went up to the (surveyors') Centre Of New Zealand as well as the local dam. Storm last night left a lot of debris further south - only got a little ways into Old Ghost Road before two downed trees stopped me.

The winter weather pendulum swung back today - lots of drizzle/rain moved in, so I did a couple of short hikes and called it (but fortunately, this was my planned "rest day" in Hokitika anyway). So have three photos from yesterday, as I forgot to post some, plus a very cloudy Arthur's Pass!

Mostly a travel day today, heading back down and then around from Aoraki to the West Coast. But that doesn't mean there wasn't anything to see, including a short hike to the Blue Pools!

No cheating today - 14km of hiking around the Aoraki National Park trail system, including some very nice swing bridges (apparently quite new!), and all the way up to the glacier lake, which I think had a calving quite recently.

Up to Otago today, and with unexpectedly nice weather I found myself a seat on a helicopter tour over to Milford Sound/Piopiotahi and back. With a stop on a glacier! Absolutely incredible (if a little spendy). But I also need to come back and hike some of this in the summer, it's just so beautiful.

Final thing for today, as it was a 28 hour long travel day and I shouldn't do _too_ much, was popping down to a wonderfully overcast Slope Point to bump my "furthest south" number as high as it's ever been. At least until I finally get to Antartica.

A few years on and some improvements in both the software and the fabrication process, and I'm finally quite happy with how these little terrain frames look. (Old on left, new on right)

Lovely day today - chatted with Dad in the morning, then did one of my favorite hikes (a pleasant 8 miles and 2,500 vertical feet), the people at the mountain coffee shop recognised me and gave me the locals' discount, and then we had a rescue just one town over that went very smoothly.

Even if you're not in an RV, I still find RVParky to be the best road-trip-planning tool. This South Island route is ambitious for 8 days, but I think doable.
