Yeah biking in NYC could be a lot better, but I can't fathom riding on something like that. That's so frightening.

I've been enjoying DJ Petesake's videos on biking and bussing around LA. There are a lot of great paths and biking infrastructure, but also a lot of "bike paths" are shoulders with bike signs. The most harrowing is part of I5 has a bike path, the shoulder of an 8 lane highway!! aaaaaaaaaaaaa

As someone who takes the Ethan Allen Express multiple times a year, I have been pretty worried about the upcoming seats. This is a relief to read. Everything looks pretty nice. I'm very happy to see the bathrooms away from the seats and in the vestibules too.

Awesome find, I find atmospheric drum and base to be great programming music. Perfect PSX vibes. I don't have any of the services you linked, but I found them on Bandcamp baychimo.bandcamp.com

My copy arrived today. It's so cool! I'm excited to take it with me on my next walk and identify bits that I see. Also happy to see NYC Mesh mentioned.

Oh! Is there a pdf download of that presentation? I don't see it on the DOT site yet. Very excited to see a protected bike lane on Dekalb, it needs it badly.

Oh I've such fond memories of the Macintosh version. The little detailed black and white animations added so much character to the game.

Yes! The part where the horn stops and the bell have the melody always sends shivers down my back. Very haunting.

Yep Yep. A year after my mother died I had a manager come up to me and go "You called your mother for mother's day, right?" Absolutely, sure did, not going to get into this with you.

In classic Inside Macintosh style, lots of details about how the IIgs work are split amongst a bunch of books. I believe the ones you'd be interested in for doing assembly stuff are Technical Introduction, and Firmware Reference. apple2.gs/library

I think it can, according to Technical Introduction to the IIgs, "They are enhanced to support the 65C816 microprocessor's new instructions and long addresses, and they support both native and emulation mode."
Mini-assembler and disassembler
All models of the Apple Il have some version of the disassembler, and all but the early models of the Apple Ile have a mini-assembler.
The Apple IIGS has both. They are enhanced to support the 65C816 microprocessor's new instructions and long addresses, and they support both native and emulation mode.
The mini-assembler and disassembler are special features of the Monitor. The mini-assembler provides a means of developing and debugging a program or routine in a very simple form of assembly language.
When you invoke the mini-assembler, the prompt character changes to an exclamation point @ and the Monitor accepts 65C816 instructions in the form address: opcode operands
The address field and the colon are optional; you omit them to enter consecutive instructions. The mini-assembler does not maintain a symbol table, but it does recognize all the standard instruction mnemonics, and it calculates relative addresses. It recognizes a preceding number sign (*) as signifying an immediate operand. You use the letters X and Y, set off by commas, for indexing, and you type indirect addresses inside parentheses.
To stop the mini-assembler, you type a null line by pressing the Return key.
Unlike the mini-assembler, which takes over the user interface and accepts inputs from the user, the disassembler is just the Monitor's List command. It lists the contents of memory, one screenful at a time, converting op codes into mnemonics and relative addresses into absolute addresses.
Both the mini-assembler and the disassembler can handle all 91 of the 6SC816's instructions and all 24 addressing modes (a total of 256 op codes). In addition, the disassembler properly expands operating-system calls to ProDOS 8 and ProDOS 16, showing command numbers and parameter-list pointers on separate lines.

Ah the mini assembler does exist, just a different way to access. All you have to do is enter ! from inside the monitor. More info about it and new stuff in the Monitor in the Firmware Reference manual archive.org/details/Appl... I'm excited for your further IIgs adventures!

It frustrates me that it used to be capped at ~$3 for the first few years of the ebikes. Then when they removed it they said "oh this was always our intent, we're correcting a mistake. This is not a price increase." Felt insulting.

I have seen some stores in NYC loading into their basement with a conveyor belt set over the steps. It doesn't seem very practical.

Riding SEPTA Commuter rail is like this and it's so nice and easy. Tap through the gate at 30th st station and then tap at the station when you get off. It's wild that the MTA can't or refuses to do this.

Ah! It's looking good now. There's some text encoding difficulties around accents and some punctuation "the SNES's chip", but that's era appropriate too. This is a real joy to browse.

No luck with Netscape 2.02, just gives me a network error. I also tried upgrading to Netscape 3, but the request times out. I suspect an http / virtual server issue? frogfind works great, and I can use their converter to view the site. I'll keep poking at it and see if I can get it working.

The output from WGBH has been quite impressive. This Old House, Nova, Masterpiece, The French Chief. Not to mention helping develop and expand closed captioning! So much of my childhood was seeing that glowing logo accompanied by some wild synth sounds.

In 2022 I found myself on a SEPTA train with an inside decked out to the nines for Christmas. Including an tree in the first row with lights, ribbons and ornaments. Also stockings, presumably for the train operator? It was quite a surprise!
The inside of a SEPTA commuter rail car. The inside has been decorated with string lights, snowflake decals, merry christmas signs, and garlands. It's quite excessive, but very charming!A different view of the same decorated car. There's a large-ish artificial Christmas tree at the front seat. It's extensively decorated with ornaments and lights. There are also stockings hung by the operator cab. Again, this is on a commuter rail car!

Gives you more storage for your Sony Mavica digital camera. It normally used floppy disks, but with this adapter you could take a lot more photos. Family friend had one and it was pretty cool at the time!
