It’s sort of like Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Sure, the main characters are funny and incompetent, but it treats the monsters and the horror seriously so that it’s not farcical. The dread is here and it never feels like the comedy detracts from it.

This isn’t the movie I would’ve asked for, but it’s one that captures the experience of Resident Evil beautifully so I can’t say I’m not happy. Also I liked Bryan, the protagonist woefully unprepared for survival horror, which is where the comedy comes from & not from the monsters or stakes.

More of my thoughts: You can tell that while the film doesn’t follow any specific plot from the games, the crew understood & loved the series. The locations, scares, monster encounters, camera angles, moments of item managing & frantic searching, even a door opening echo the games perfectly.

Interesting to have an obscure Ghost Rider villain headline a tv show but go off I guess.

And it was fantastic. Did Ted justice after a middling first try back in 2005, and delivered some deliciously spooky action that satisfied the 70’s horror comic fan in me.

I really like how Tomar and Kilowog look in the concept art. Hope they get some screen time in season 2 of Lanterns.

Points for not bloodying them in that shot. A little more subtle and creepy for them to just be there looking normal.

Jessica Chastain in Other Mommy keeps confusing my brain into believing it’s actually Bryce Dallas Howard as the lead.

Unfortunately, he asserted himself as ruler because he was afraid of his world plunging into the same chaos as before. So…yeah maybe a comparison to Magneto isn’t the most apt. Doctor Doom maybe? Thaal was a historian and scientist before becoming a GL.

Well that’s the thing, Sinestro’s world, Korugar, was being torn apart by seemingly never ending war from difficult nations before he became a GL, him and his family suffering through a lot because of this. Once he got the power, he ended it.

I think it did. It was funny, lighthearted (until the death scenes of course), appropriately bloody, and it reminded me and my wife quite a bit of Scream Queens.

This was actually my first Treehouse of Horror episode. Homer disappearing like that in the 3D void freaked me out as a kid.

There is a plot point involving generative ai, however I couldn’t confirm whether or not it was actually ai used in the production or not so it could’ve just been a mockup of ai. If it wasn’t then definitely points docked, but again I don’t know for sure.

Rolled the dice on another Tubi original movie, and, yet again, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. “BUZZKILL” A campy slasher comedy that posits the question: what if the drunk party girl who almost exclusively dies in a horror movie was the main character?

It really is a shame. Both Ace Ventura movies had some hilarious gags and did a great job at showcasing Jim Carrey as a comedian, I thought, but then they both had to drag the whole thing down with pretty egregiously bigoted punchlines and plot points even for the 90’s.

I just realized that another perk of not being on Twitter anymore is that I’m no longer in close proximity to…THOSE types of Hal Jordan fans. I cannot imagine the complete frothing-at-the-mouth, annoying, psychotic reactions that they’d be having towards Lanterns.

The motive behind the deaths and the sheer, unparalleled, dumbfounded look of shock from Pegg is the greatest bit of comedy in film history imo.
