Victoria, Seattle, and now Denver, half way home. Crazy how fast we can travel. Less than 5 hours for something that took me two months. Today, day 60, is officially my last day of the trip. (Pedaling kind of stopped on day 54 in Victoria, BC.)

Yesterday's route was beautiful but extremely exhausting. The trail went up and down after and very steep. With my heavy bicycle I barely had traction to push the bike up.

I had a great night in Hope at Baker's bookstore. Most books are $2. Sun Valley RV Park in Mission is a super place to stay for cyclist. Routing around that area was a bit difficult. I ended up on non-bike friendly areas. Now I'm in Vancouver ready to explore the City.

Made it to Hope, BC. A nice Danish couple took me along in their RV. 166 mile detour. Not to worry though, I did make it to the top of Allison Pass on Hwy 3 before I encountered the closure. So I missed only the downhill section.

Yesterday: Monster Mountains Day. 95 miles, 6150 ft ascent. Through some hot and arid landscape without shade, especially in the afternoon. I saw spotted lake and rode through the wine and then the fruit region. Camp at Stemwinder Park right next to the river. Really nice.

Today I finished the Columbia & Western Trail. Tough 48 miles in the heat. Whem I arrived at Midway, BC I had clear sky behind me and saw the smoke front from the fires in Washington come in. Now the whole town is covered. It's supposed to get worse. I'm taking a rest.

Christina Lake was a great stop. Great food at Baba Kabab and a wonderful stay and beach at Silver Birch Resort to cope with the 97°F (36°C for the rest of the wold).

I did the first section of the Columbia & Western RR trail to Christina Lake. A really active mouse caused me to move camp in the dark last night. What an undesired experience.

I successfully crossed the Cray Creek Pass. Plenty of pushing and I had to cool the wheel rims with creek water. I need an engine that's stronger and can break. 😄 I also crossed two time zones now on this bicycle tour.

Today I'm crossing the Gray Creek Pass. It's going to take me 2 or 3 days. It's a gravel road and unpassable for cars. No services or cell coverage. Just me, my heavy bike, steep inclines, mosquitoes and bears. What can go wrong?

Yesterday I arrived at Cranbrook, BC. I'm mentally in a hole. It doesn't help that the mountains are like the coast. Everybody gets jammed into very few roads. It's busy and unfriendly. I'd rather be biking NYC which is so much more relaxing than here. Today is rest & recovery.

All day today was spent riding in the mountains. It's strange that the elevation goes down as I enter the mountains, and that there is still strong headwinds. I entered BC and apparently saw the largest truck. I'm trying my bear hang at a free campsite in the forrest by a lake.

Yesterday I left the Cypress Hills and did the long Gravel road stretch to Bow Island, AB. Today I continued on to Lethbridge, AB along highway 3. Not an exciting day besides seeing the railroad bridge, needs to be a bike bridge, and fort whoop-up. Zero day tomorrow.

The ghost of the dryer ball is hunting me. At the Airbnb many nights ago I placed the dryer ball, that was mixed up with my laundry, on the floor infront of the laundry room. The dog got it and shredded it. Oops, a big no-no around dogs.

Afternoon staying in a nice motel last night, I'm camping out in a mud hole and rain tonight. Only 30 rainy miles. Spent the afternoon making more pancakes and bacon to use the stuff up. It doesn't get better with miles. 🤣

Spoiling myself in Assiniboia, SK by staying in a hotel. 68m in rain, wide plains, and monster rolling hills today. The rain killed any wind, so the I only got a little tailwind towards the end. Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy day, too.

114 miles today. I just couldn't stop with the tailwind. Total destruction of me though, both physical and mental. Top speed 37.8 mph but I walked the bike several uphills as well. In Big Beaver, SK tonight.

23 mph winds and 35 mph gusts today. Of course all from the direction I needed to ride. I made 45 miles today with an average speed of 7.8 mph because I pedaled downhill, too. I'm burned out. Got to tour the Minuteman missile site for a highlight.

Yesterday's wild camping since the town before didn't had the bathrooms unlocked at their campsite. Today's campsite has port-a-potties, too otherwise the same issue would have happened since their shower rooms are locked.

Sometimes I wonder why I do this, other times I'm ecstatic. Mostly I'm both. ND is the next level. I have a few days to get the feel for this state and get to love it. Until then I'll take the excitement of having seen the tallest structure in the western hemisphere.

"Go outside and get some fresh air" they said. Yesterday, every farmer was out spraying. They even had an attack airplane. Oh yeah, ND is the next level of flat. Got refuge in Minnesota for the night, so yeah 3 states in one day. I also broke the 500 mile mark. 🥳

Liquid sunshine. Only 34 miles today but that's OK because the strong headwinds and storms going through made today's ride interesting. Several towns on the way to wait out storm cells. The low during the day was 55°F and as soon as the storm cell was gone it popped to 67°.
