It took me 8-plus years to complete my PhD, in a program that averaged 4 to 5 years. For years I had a recurring dream where I was still in the program, thinking how to even start my thesis, while hiding from all the professors so that they wouldn’t realize I was still there and kick me out.

If a teacher really thinks something can be gained by doing this, he or she should locate willing professors on their own (without harassing random professors) and then connect their students with them. If the teacher can’t find willing professors, they shouldn’t ask their students to do so.
