I got this wonderful care package from some amazing folks in Wisconsin. Yes, these are honest to goodness ketchup chips actually sold in the US! I am shocked! Maybe these can make their way to Oregon stores? Hello "BIg-Chip" companies, are you listening? @graffias79.bsky.social

Rebooted my lab PC, and I got a pop-up when the GPU drivers tried to auto-update. Claims my AMD Ryzen 5600G integrated Radeon graphics aren't supported anymore? Has AMD given up on consumer graphics entirely? Either that or their drivers are track. Probably both...

Why do smoke detectors always start beeping "low battery" in the middle of the night? It has to be temperature related... this one started at 3AM but the basement temps never really change at all, day or night.

I just picked one of these up. It's very similar to the 703 that you might see me using on videos, but I figured why not get this. $74 shipped. The major difference on the ZT-706S is the 66,000 count multimeter. Plus It has a (slightly more) useful frequency generator.

Zoyi ZT-706S : visually the scope looks slightly different but I think the underlying hardware is unchanged.

Indeed, clearly this will do nothing more than just move air around inside the case. So do you think this is an actual Apple part? I'm amazed to not have been able to find any photos of a fan that looks like this. Oh also, it's also really noisy!

I have about 5 or 6 of the ROM 00/01 boards/machines and none have the connectors installed, only the footprint. Similar results for a Google image search, only footprints... Strange it's all you've ever seen!

I have a Woz Apple IIgs with a motherboard from 1988 (chip dates) but it has the IIe PSU and keyboard connectors installed. It also has what appears to be an OEM-like PSU fan installed onto a 1987 Week 01 IIgs PSU. Warranty replacement board perhaps? But why the IIe connectors?

Hot take: The classic Amiga has the most crappy and brittle filesystems of any retro computer. (I'm talking about Fast File System.) You just look at it wrong and it gets corrupted. To make matters worse, the included "disk doctor" tool is worthless hot garbage...

Adrian's Digital Basement @adriansdigitalbasement.com · 14/05/2026

Here's a new one: My Amiga 600 has been acting up lately, slow, filesystem getting corrupted, block errors, etc. It turns out the 16GB PNY SD card I was using for the boot drive took a huge crap. No matter which card reader or computer I plug it into, it only ever runs about this fast. WTF!

I seem to have no spare working Amiga floppy drives around, so I just setup a Teac FD-235HF-3240 to work with the Amiga. If you have a 3XXX version of this drive, there are bunch of small jumpers: Set RY34 (Ready signal on pin 34) and DC2 (Disk change on pin 2.) Then set DS0, FG, HA, HF and NMK.

Where the jumpers are located on this drive. This is a Teac FD-235HF-3240 but these jumpers should be the same on any -3XXX drive.

Got to spend some time with one of the new Commodore 64 machines at last night's PDX retro meet-up. While I prefer the OG C64 color scheme, the clear keyboard substrate/PCB is nifty. The UI feels exactly like the older Ultimate 64: a little confusing and daunting to someone not used to it. 1/2
