Apparently she is denying that the Tories are returning to being ‘the nasty party’. She is correct. They never stopped so can’t return.

There have been warnings that we would not be able to enter on the terms we left. We might have to join Schengen and adopt the Euro. So, even more attractive!

British nationals from London. Difficult to see why they needed small boats although the River Thames does flow through London and Gloucestershire so they must have brought those white vans on small boats.

I feel so sorry for Sir Ed Davey. Excellent speech this afternoon. But, little News coverage because of so much coverage of Trump’s rambling megalomaniac speech at the UN. Seems impossible for the Lib Dems to get appropriate coverage.

Great article as always. Sadly, I don’t get to read as regularly as once I did since my Guardian subscription stopped including the Observer. Just one little point- I think you will find that by Reform’s linguistic take, Mr Harborne is not a foreigner but an ex-pat 😀

Anyone abusing RNLI volunteers should be put on a boat, taken out to see and there forced to watch every episode of BBC2’s Saving Lives At Sea. RNLI volunteers are absolute heroes.

At last there is something I agree with Farage about. Were he to become UK Prime Minister, it would indeed be a state of emergency.

How totally unreasonable of the Swedes to kick out innocent Britons. Immigration is a uniquely British issue and it is only the British that have right to do this sort of thing (for the benefit of anyone who needs it, these remarks are ironic)

Reform is unlikely to be in a position to do immeasurably economic damage to the country by forming a government, but right now does immeasurable economic damage by being perceived by EU countries as a possible government.

A big ‘thank you’ to the nearly 10,000 voters in the Clacton of Clacton who had enough wit and good sense to vote for Count Binface

it’s very tempting to feel that Farage is Clacton’s decision and problem, but there are neighbouring areas of Essex that are more progressive such as Colchester (Lab MP ) which under the government’s reorganisation is about to lose it’s own local authority and be bunged in with these morons.

The big difference is that Cornwall has a long established indigenous party with significant support and local council presence. It is called Mebyon Kernow which translates into English as Sons of Cornwall.

As a Cornishman with family still in Cornwall but having lived in Essex for several decades, I can tell you that there is plenty of ill-informed racism in Cornwall. There is also far too much Reform support for comfort in Cornwall.

I’ve complained to the BBC calling for equal coverage of Count Binface who as far as I am aware is not planning military conflict - i.e. war with a nuclear armed France.

Not quite - the policy is now to use the Navy to force migrants back to France and if the French are reluctant to take them, then the Royal Marines will force the French to accept them. Then what. French police who are routinely armed opposing the Royal Marines leads to shooting- we have war with

The crank candidate for the Clacton by-election is proposing a war with France and getting media coverage for it. Surely Count Binface deserves equal air time.

@bbcnews-uk-rss.bsky.social I wish to protest at today’s news coverage for a crank candidate in the Clacton by election, calling for war with France. Surely there should now be equal coverage for the policies of Count Binface.

The hindsight around the issue of school closures seems to ignore the problem that adults work in schools and there would therefore have been increased numbers of adults getting ill and dying, leading to unplanned school closures.

I well remember the having to stand up to the ‘let’s get back to normal’ ideologues’ to force inspectors back into schools to help spread the virus.

I am normally a great fan of the Newsagents but their assertions around school lockdowns certainly need challenging. I was not only one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors during the pandemic but was at that time branch convenor of the civil service union that represents them.

Of course a fall in the rate of inflation is not a fall in the cost of living. Rather, prices on average rose over the last 12 months by on average by 2.6%. Too many people do not understand this due to an absence of basic economics education,
