Just checked to see if I could find a screencap and saw the full thing is up on YouTube. My guts cramped in actual, visceral fear. I’m sure it’s definitely not scary!! It’s a low budget 80s cartoon. And yet. And yet!!

Pro tip for anyone else with toddlers, the step after a pumpkin painting party is a pumpkin washing party where you chuck them in the tub with sponges and they clean off the pumpkins they just painted. HUGE success, like 2 solid hours of entertainment, infinitely repeatable

You never think about the way you talk until your 4 year old asks “do you see my vision” during a pumpkin painting party

I think that this is more common than we think it is. Which is not at all to take away from the seriousness of OP’s story. It made me feel nauseous to read it, and see my own experience reflected almost exactly.

This happened to me too - roofied at random. I was lucky, and went home with friends, and nothing happened except that I got very, very sick the next day. I’ll never know why it happened. If the spiked drink was meant for someone else, I hope at least they got home safe too.

It's too depressing and obnoxious to write about, but virtually all of the doomy/horny AI hyperventilating is transparently displaced anxiety about our fucked climate and political situation. Even rich idiots know it's bad and being permitted to get worse. They're trying to write their own ending.

We have studied the danger of only a few PFAS, out of the 10,000+ that exist. This article gives a lot of detail for the seriousness of this problem and the immense harm even one of these chemicals has already caused. www.propublica.org/article/3m-f...

Toxic Gaslighting: How 3M Executives Convinced a Scientist the Forever Chemicals She Found in Human Blood Were Safe

manufacturing electronics. So if there’s a data center near you, there will also be an accordant rise in PFAS in addition to every other harm you’re already suffering.

Adrian Cantrell @adriancantrell.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
There are more than 10,000 PFAS chemicals, which do serve a critical function in electronics to keep them resistant to the elements and also fire. (There’s also PFAS in fire retardants! It just is mostly a concern to fire fighters or people who live close to airports) PFAS is an inherent part of

It’s not paranoid to look at the aging infrastructure of the United States + the blatant carelessness of tech companies and say, this will cause cancer rates to rise. It will. It will poison your ground, it will kill animals and insects, it will give your children cancer.

Adrian Cantrell @adriancantrell.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
We know that data centers require a massive amount of servers & other hardware, all of which is coated in PFAS of some kind, and we also know this hardware is outdated almost as soon as it’s put to use. So now we have the regular disposal of 10,000s of computer parts being dumped into YOUR landfill
2135
Adrian Cantrell @adriancantrell.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Actually I’m still upset about this so let me clarify: unless you work at a chemical plant, your primary exposure to PFAS is your drinking water. Fewer than 25% of electronics are recycled in the US. The rest goes mostly in landfills, which - you guessed it - often leak into your drinking water.

I feel extremely normal about this of course Hey did you guys know scientists had to go back like 70 years for some blood taken in rural China to find a blood sample that did not have PFOA No one’s done that yet for the other 10,000+ PFAS that are used

And having the consumer facing applications be so prominent and seeming to taint most of the NON consumer versions from these companies has really poisoned the water for even just how people imagine they get used

Although it’s hard to even have specifics about that because AI just means whatever we want it to now, mostly based on sentient robots from 100 years of sci fi, I guess. But yeah I’m struggling to think of a consumer facing application that is a net positive

I’ve never used any AI and doubt I ever will, for so many reasons - mostly because of its disastrous effect on the environment but also because of spite and annoyance of it barging into my industry and faking its usefulness here. This is such low hanging fruit!!

There are so many ways that AI could actually be used for sustainability, regulating manufacturing, and making targeted, quantifiable reductions. These are just a few off the top of my head, just specific to struggling to meet obligations in the textile industry. And yet. And yet.

electrification of my tier 2 supplier’s grid but not my tier 1? Is it incorporating any post consumer studies of plastic and textile degradation so we can finally start measuring cradle to grave emissions? Can it help me with my damn EPR submissions?

the same stupid advice of “well tokens cause emissions so have your staff only use LLMs when they’re REALLY necessary.” Okay but can your AI spit out a number if I have to source my cotton from 3 countries instead of 1 to comply with the Uyghur Act? Is it giving me up to date emissions factors from

calculate emissions for individual purchase orders would be AMAAAZING. But it can’t be used that way. And I say that with confidence because the consultants who literally advertise “we will do your scope 3 for you” aren’t using it that way either. They give webinars on AI in sustainability and give

I think the thing that irritates me most about AI in sustainability conversations is that COULD BE of the most useful applications for it. Quantifying/understanding emission factors is incredibly hard and also the basis for any kind of regulatory action against manufacturers or businesses. We can’t

Maybe! But I am in fact a transplant of uhhh almost 20 years ago now. I’m originally from a surf town near the Bay Area, so that’s mostly what I sound like except with like a veneer of New York on top, mostly on certain words or phrases. The way I speak really is all over the place lol.

If you paid $100 at the store, the retailer bought it from a wholesale company like mine for about $30-35. We bought it from the cut&sew factory for $10. Each step has differing operating costs so the profit margin is more consistent than you’d think as you move down the supply chain.

Adrian Cantrell @adriancantrell.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Can confirm for textiles. The factory that cut/sewed your clothes or blankets or toys sold them for about 10-15% of what you paid at retail. Profit was ~2%. Labor cost was also about 2-5% of that price. It’s the same % for mass or luxury goods.

Yep, agreed. I literally just posted about this. The album is the supergroup Czarface (Inspektah Deck, Esoteric, 7L) and Tom Hardy as Frankie Pulitzer. This is not a "Tom Hardy rap album" it's a collaboration with 3 rappers and a dope producer. Let's not do this tonight.

I work in manufacturing but not food, so this may not be right, but I think it’s not really happening more frequently, so much as there’s been so much consolidation in manufacturing/processing that the impact becomes much larger and more widespread.
