It's never easy to move to #NYC or to switch apartments. Unless you're in the top 25 pct or so of earners. Even then it's apparently far, far, FAR worse than it was when I moved there 45 years ago (when it was bankrupt, dirtier + FAR less safe). This @hellgatenyc.com writer explains in grim detail.

This memo is factually inaccurate. Bloomberg peer @hellgatenyc.com continues to cover 100% of employees' healthcare premiums, as any company with sufficient revenue should until the day this country recognizes that health care is a human right.

Max Tani tweet: "Per a memo to staff today, Bloomberg employees now have to pay healthcare premiums. The company previously covered the costs.

'Bloomberg’s approach of not asking employees to contribute to healthcare costs lasted longer than any of our peers,' the company told employees."

Mk.Gee Brings His Unsettling, Undeniable Swag Home to Asbury Park

The force of his persona—mulleted, enigmatic, taking a wide stance on stage in combat boots with the unsettling energy of an ROTC obsessive—just works.

and creating a cool culture of "Saying No to Streaming" actually does relatively pretty possible in my relatively pessimistic sense of political possibility!

part of being a "cultural critic" is also to simply argue for things for no other reason than they have value to me. but also if we do take on the task of "finding a solution to spotify" i do genuinely think creating a thriving music culture separate from streaming would be a drop in that bucket

Adlan Jackson @adlan.bsky.social · 03/01/2025

been thinking about this because while 1. i generally do agree it's a crutch to presume an inherent moral value in "music scenes"... they have value to ME as a hobby of mine (as you say) 2. im not a political strategist though i do think its encumbent on "cultural critics" to "offer solutions"

it can't be the only "solution" but i for one could stand to do some more of dat
