A study on #EMDR for social anxiety in which EMDR therapy targeted flashforwards. The study involved patients who had been referred after CBT had previously proven ineffective. After just three EMDR sessions, we observed a pattern of reduced social anxiety. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

A bodily response during sexual abuse does NOT mean consent, desire, or enjoyment. In our study, >1 in 3 patients with PTSD reported genital responses linked to traumatic memories. doi.org/10.1080/2000...

New study: PTSD and dissociative disorders share the same 3-domain structure of dissociation/depersonalization/derealization, amnesia, and identity dissociation, differing mainly in severity. High dissociation alone is no reason to withhold trauma-focused treatment. doi.org/10.1037/trm0...

A new international review identifies PSYTREC as part of the European model of intensive PTSD treatment: a model is associated with very large effect sizes for PTSD treatment. A gratifying recognition of a decade of research and innovation. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... #PTSD #EMDR

Adults with PTSD and high ASD traits can benefit from intensive trauma-focused treatment. ✅ 83% no longer met criteria for PTSD ✅ Similar remission rates with low (87%) and high (79%) ASD traits. ASD traits no reason to withhold evidence-based trauma treatment. www.tandfonline.com/doi/epdf/10....

Interesting article about Dissociative Identity Disorder (#DID). According to the authors, there is little evidence to support its construct. The symptoms are best described as CPTSS or borderline personality disorder. Treating those symptoms seems the best approach di.aerzteblatt.de/int/archive/...

Childhood adversity isn’t just a risk factor but may drive personality disorders. A large longitudinal study (N=8,199) shows ACEs, especially emotional abuse/neglect, strongly predict PDs, ↑ risk for borderline PD ×5. Supports trauma-focused treatment (e.g. #EMDR), even without PTSD.

Conceptualising borderline personality disorder as a disorder of maladaptive memory processing shifts the therapeutic focus toward the effective processing of traumatic experiences which may lead to durable changes in borderline personality pathology. traumaj.com/index.php/pu...

Trauma-focused therapy works, 75% lose their PTSD diagnosis. But over half still battle symptoms like intrusive memories, avoidance, and negative feelings. Recovery is real, but so is what lingers, therapists should stay vigilant and tackle what remains. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Oddly enough, it took over 30 years before - regarding EMDR therapy a relationship could be found between a decrease in the emotional intensity of a trauma memory and a reduction in PTSD symptoms over time. But no longer, because a new study has demonstrated this connection. doi.org/10.1080/2000...

Very proud of our researchers who presented on our brief intensive evidence based treatment of severe PTSD from PSYTREC at #ESTSS2025 in Tbilisi. We showed that all our formats are effective: our 8-day program and our two 4-day programs (with or without a week in between).
