I mean, it’s chronological order. But you’re right, Magician’s Nephew is a weird and troubling one Good strategy when rebooting

I’m not a Victorianist, but I’ve read a lot of these titles, and Villette is a worthy one I recall a scandalized French schoolmaster sputtering, “outrageous insular audacity!” when the young British teacher does something unspeakable, like asserting herself or going out unaccompanied in public

“Some of the monkeys were dressed as human babies.” I struggle to imagine how this kind of torture would gratify anyone. Then that line hits, doubling down To me, torture is something so monstrous, so annihilating, that it calls everything about human beings into question Who are these people?

This kind of video is fascinating to watch But is there any potential harm to the animals? I assume the birds can range pretty widely, but if water is scarce, and you provide some in that spot for the mammals and reptiles a single time, does it alter their habits of where to seek it in the future?

Humiliation’s hard to watch, no matter how deserving the victim might seem

The Pod Save Reactionary Centrist crowd? Are they affiliated with the Capitalist Running Dogs Caucus? Or was that the Fascist Insect that Eats the Life of the People Forum? Not that I object to Ossoff kicking the shit, metaphorically, out of the likes of Mike Rogers

No, the tech overlords - who made your fortune, and bought you your senate seat - bring in foreigners to undercut wages of American residents You know, the way the American economy has worked for four centuries Take it up with them

Because his brain is melting, he leaves out part of the equation. The ‘weave’ is not properly woven So it’s not, “Go ahead, nuke California. We’re better off without LA.” It’s “Pay the price for the war, or kiss San Diego goodbye.”
000
Andy Dimock @adimock.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I think people are misinterpreting what he said (and believe me, I know full well he’s capable of ANY vile thought or deed) He’s trying to claim that the war’s costs are trivial because it’s the price of stopping Iran from nuking us

Has there ever been an episode of Reacher in which he uses realistic armed and unarmed techniques? That’s not why people watch Reacher, etc

Andy Dimock @adimock.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
What’s this about? If NATO responds to incursions into the Baltic States, don’t touch Kaliningrad, or we’ll be nuked? Because no way Putin risks annihilation over Kaliningrad Unfortunately, if things go badly enough for him in Ukraine, he just might end up facing a personally existential threat

Fantastic: “my racism is the proof that they’re not assimilated. It isn’t anything that they’re doing. Or not doing! It’s that they’re visible at all.” It’s ironclad

The Rehnquist Court’s rush to close off recount avenues was a travesty, but it’s pretty obvious that the recounts wouldn’t have changed the outcome for Gore Plenty of reason to excoriate the current Supremes independent of that

The Rehnquist Court’s rush decision to close down the recount was a travesty, but the recount wouldn’t have yielded a different outcome We were incredibly unlucky that the botched design of the Palm Beach County butterfly ballot provided Bush the margin he needed by diverting Gore votes to Buchanan

It’s certainly a swaggy version of American militarism We can feel justified in having killed Nazis, though George S Patton would have gleefully jumped at the chance to wage any war we had on tap Morally best?

What historically attested cultures have been “rape-free?” I agree with what you’re saying here about patriarchy, rape culture on college campuses, the salutary effects of female socioeconomic power. And I don’t believe for a second in the evolutionary biology “inevitability” of rape.

As I understand it, they’re brave in part because they’re too fast for wolves to catch. They evolved to outrun the American cheetah, which went extinct. Wolves can kill sick or wounded pronghorns, or catch calves, but they’re not a threat to healthy adults
