August was a big reading month 💙📚 Kicked it off with Lonesome Dove. Although I’m not generally much of a westerns person, I really loved it. Also always happy for a new Ruth Ozeki, and some other greats too…especially Wolfish, All my Dead Cats and Other Losses, and Kin

After my childhood cat died during Covid lockdowns, I looked for a book like this to make sense of that and all the other losses that were piling up. I finally just found that book…this is so beautiful, affirming, and thought-provoking

This does a good job of showing the breadth of work forces impacted by climate change. If your job requires air to breathe, this matters to you.

This @jayasaxena.com read for @weareravenous.com about how AI-generated pitches are poisoning the well for freelancers is very good. It’s especially bad for emerging writers because as more editors turn to commissioning known writers to avoid AI, it’s really hard to get yourself established.

Wildfire smoke is eclipsing Clean Air Act gains. Climate change-fueled conditions lead to intense wildfires that blanket communities in toxic smoke that is more harmful than pollution from other sources. Study: smoke from wildfires more harmful to fetuses. 🌎🧪 insideclimatenews.org/news/0708202...

A staggering 55 people have died in ICE custody since Trump's return to office. But the agency's official death toll record-keeping doesn't account for people like Prisciliano, whose health deteriorated in detention but died shortly after the agency released him from custody to be hospitalized.
