I was expected to stay quiet my entire life; I'm very tired & very angry. I'm an AuDHD emergency medical professional who's pro-vaccine, pro-mutual aid, pro-planet... My tone and RBF hurt big egos.

My condolences to you and your family, from an Internet stranger. Cocoa was delightful, and your videos showed how much he enjoyed life with y'all.

It just gets co-opted for whatever an individual Texan wants. Ex: In-law is *pro* Flock cameras ("You'll wish you had them when your house gets shot up!") but anti-speed cameras ("We outlawed them! Don't mess with Texas!")

I did shingles-pneumonia-covid at age 37 by telling the CVS website that I was immunocompromised*, and: 1) No regerts 2) Nobody asked me why/how I was immunocompromised** 3) It worked again for Shingrix #2 * Chronic sleep deprivation, thankyouverymuch ** This basic excuse will not work for RSV 😔

Seconding this recommendation. FYI, Joey swears a lot, so if you watch as a family, the lads will be learning more than just scientific plant names.

Pop 4 is the most difficult group, but the first 3 are *so easy*. We just don't try that hard. Don't make them schedule an appt. Do it immediately. They are at work, their insurance info is already on file, or there are annual public health funds to cover the cost for the shelters. Make it simple.

I have 4 populations: 1) healthcare workers 2) people living in shelters 3) Rx fillers & the medically complex or anxious 4) everyone else Pops 1 & 2 are captive audiences & could be high % vaccinated at very low cost. Pop 3 is biddable & should be offered vax at every clinic/pharm encounter. +

I've been utilizing peer pressure & persistently introducing vaccines into the conversation. Next shift, I'm leading the trainees on a field trip to get their flu shots. Spouse didn't get to argue. I don't know if the non-believers in our profession are more vocal or what, but uptake seems low.

My brain saw "Type N>2" and assumed we were doing "Alzheimer's is diabetes" discourse. This Type 5 postulate seems ... less terrible(?) in comparison.

I do think that the country is absurdly cavalier about allowing so many circulating respiratory viruses to just *exist* without putting any public money into focused vaccine development for the stuff that takes us out at the kneecaps every year. (Similar feelings re: mosquito vectors, etc.)

It's always my hope that SNFs & assisted living are a captive population & therefore more likely to be pushed to vaccinate. I personally haven't noticed an uptick in cases vs the last few years, but it's bad here every year, like clockwork. Most of my patients fail to take any precautions. +

Don't even ask about masks. Replace all of the pharmaceutical & political ads on TV, streaming, & radio with PSAs about health and safety. Forever.

All of my patients have a viral respiratory infection that's testing negative for Flu A, Flu B, & Covid-19, (in spite of local surges), AND none of them got vaccinated, despite the fact that they are all elderly, attending large group events, & travelling in planes, trains, buses for activities.

New: Baofeng or Motorola BUT ALSO Motorola is staffed by a bunch of nerds (complimentary) and if you can get an old head on the phone, they will happily troubleshoot your current radios for you.

Spouse and I do not have kids and we regularly think about these types of things. (See also: watching all of the unattended kids while we're anywhere near a body of water.) We regularly go to therapy and, uh, I guess we've got enough else to talk about because those thoughts are not discussed.

Despite my highest hopes, I haven't produced tomatoes in my very lazy* compost pile, but numerous red okra plants have volunteered. (And so many sandbur weeds! 😫) * I've forgotten to turn it for at least six months at at a time.

Me, minding my own business, ADHDing my way though the Internet: 🤓 Compost tumbler company, coming in hot with the facts: "The only commonly indestructible garden seed is the tomato seed." Attention @socialistdogmom.bsky.social: the Swedes are backing your anecdotal findings!
Will the composter kill weed seeds?

The only commonly indestructible garden seed is the tomato seed. All other seeds will more than likely be destroyed by the heat generated inside the Jora tumbler.

The barriers that prevent mandatory re-testing and suspension of drivers licenses are too damn high. (My favorite grandparent died after being run over in a parking lot by an 88-year-old.)

Scheduled my flu & Covid-19 vaccines, as well as the same for Spouse, plus their second shingles vaccine, which they have been avoiding for almost exactly a year. They will complain, but they are NOT a good patient, so they can deal with it. + Still slowly recovering from heat exhaustion, too. Yay.

I was surrounded by highly skilled med providers & didn't say anything. My ingrained self-sufficiency kept me silent around my Spouse & a friend with POTS, who was taching away & looked bad but mitigated risk sooner. Takeaway: 100% vitals check during training will protect the terminally stubborn.

I convinced myself that b/c I could check my BP & HR in real time, I would be able to stay ahead of any problems. I forgot that heat emergencies don't progress linearly. Despite advising a dept. to implement immediate cooling measures due to heat & humidity, I didn't provide the same for myself.

It took at least 2 hrs of treatment before I started feeling perky again. This was an avoidable problem. I had treated my own patients for heat exhaustion and rhabdo just 24 hrs prior. I knew the risks of putting myself in a high-heat environment without proper preparation, & I did it anyway.

I took some zofran en route & on arrival politely beelined it to the bathroom without bothering anyone. + Urgent BM + Puked 3-4x directly after BM Tx: ✓ 30 min cold shower water applied directly to skull ✓ Additional PO zofran ✓ Ibuprofen ✓ Acetaminophen ✓ Liter of LR (co-worker assisted)

Additionally, in retrospect: + Irritability + Pallor + Fatigue + Fleeting dizziness on standing ✓ I was still sweating My goal was to finish the event and get to the car with Spouse. With a/c on full blast, I quickly realized I needed to stop at my local station for more significant cooling.

Because I'm very polite, I wait to experience my heat emergencies until after I'm off shift. I convinced myself that I was managing well enough because of the following: ✓ Ok hydration ✓ Normal, light-colored urine output ✓ Normotensive + Mild/moderate headache + Tachycardia (in direct sunlight)

I imagine those particular books should be read only after careful consideration (and perhaps with embellishment of the resulting distress of the Man in the Yellow Hat) in order to avoid inspiring similar shenanigans.

Holy shit... My atheist ass was raised Irish Catholic, but I didn't notice the *gestures broadly* in the Church until well after I stopped following the script. My Mexican Catholic friends are going to be equally scandalized by this development occurring under our noses. bsky.app/profile/sky....

There are entirely too few cherries in my cherry fudge chunk ice cream. The cherries are ingredient #3 but contain "natural flavor" & several dyes, amongst other things. I recently had a cherry candy that listed the only flavoring as pineapple juice, so I'm suspicious of this "natural flavor".

If Oregon is different about letting pharmacists screen for and approve vaccines, you could always ask your primary care or gyn to Rx it. The catastrophic consequences of not vaccinating a sleep-deprived mom of 3-yr-old twins who don't attend daycare seems to be a compelling reason to approve it.

In my experience, they did not. (It's been at least a year.) I'm collecting all of the vaccines I can get my hands on. I think it's a non-issue because it's on the list of "standard" vaccines covered by my health insurance. If the CVS scheduling wizard allows it, you should be good.

Hear me out... 3 years of chronic sleep deprivation due to chasing around two small children 24/7 is a form of immunocompromisation. I'm 38 (shocking) & have about 15 years of chronic sleep deprivation due to my job. I cited immunocompromisation on the shingles vaccine questionnaire without guilt.

I've had great success with both IM haloperidol and IM droperidol for treating CHE. The only downside is keeping the patient distracted while waiting 10-15 minutes for the med to take effect.

Took my life into my own hands by: * Making too much rice * Transferring it into a more shallow container to promote cooling * Putting it in the fridge to continue cooling more safely * Falling asleep * Missing the time window to check its temp & confirm it cooled fast enough * Eating the rice again

Being in HI may limit your options, but if you can get household members' Rxs filled as "pill packs" (I've read that CVS and Walgreens have the option, & independent shops *might*), it will be much easier to ensure against sneaky self-dosing from random bottles. I recommend to patients & my family.
