On a serious note, Horry was crazily underrated. He wasn’t big on the everyday grind of the regular season, but that guy was an absolute monster in the postseason. He probably should have been Finals MVP for one of Houston’s titles (the second one of I remember correctly).

Younger son, mad genius. Spend a lot of time trying to convince him not to take over the world:

Elder son, bigger than I am. Spend a lot of time trying to get him not to get himself smashed:

There’s no better test to see if readers are actually reading than making an editing mistake with stats. I rarely hear from anyone until I screw up a table I’ve included. But, yikes, I definitely hear from them then.

Using AI to crunch numbers, sure, I see that. But zero chance I use AI for any aspect of my writing. Aside from the obvious integrity issues, I prefer not sucking when I write something.

Would agree: end of the curse in 2016 definitely does seem to have come at a hefty price for the entire world. Perhaps Ricketts actually spending a little $$ (I mean, still quite little relative to what he should) was the result of a visit from the spirit of Christmas past and he’s a changed man

Clearly, the US loss is Biden’s fault.

020

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 11/03/2026

That’s pretty much the most succinct yet effective summary of American “exceptionalism” I’ve seen in some time. Sad but painfully true.

So, does the fact that he got injured while with the DR mean Pena will get accurate scans and diagnosis? It’s probably best not to let the Astros medical staff anywhere near him.

I had a blast recording this and talking baseball with @mcouill7.bsky.social. @cardscategories.bsky.social is a great listen anytime, so I hope you’ll check them out.

This one seems to be hitting folks a little differently from others I’ve written. I appreciate all the positive feedback so far. I’ve said before — it’s silly I get paid to give myself some counseling and am legitimately surprised anytime folks feel like they also are getting something from it. ❤️

It’s pretty damn cool that I get to sort through stuff with a little euphemism, connect it to fantasy baseball, and then call it “work.” Would love for you to read it

Hey, I wrote another thing. Would love for you to check it out. Reading it may help you avoid unnecessary dukkha!

Also in Alabama. I’m watching the same process. I was taught Jesus is love, but I see no love being practiced in his name. Was also taught US is the greatest country because we have the freedom to think and speak how we choose. Now, practicing the 1st A is punishable by death — amid cheers. ????

Not gonna lie — I am just silly excited over having my own running series over at @razzball.bsky.social. I get a little personal in it — and I hope I do some pretty decent player analysis too. Zen and the Art of Fantasy Baseball

Yeah, I was so impacted by the book and the beauty of Jim Casy’s message that I wrote a song about him. I probably couldn’t even remember how it goes now — it’s been years since I even thought about it. If we would all be more like Casy, our world would be in very different condition.

One of the most beautiful—and emotionally wrenching—books ever written. I teach it every year; each year it hits closer to home. Honestly don’t know if I can teach it this year: it’s always been “real” but at least there were ways we weren’t yet in Steinbeck’s bleak scenario. We are fully in now.

120

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 11/01/2026

Unfortunately, you’re probably right. Taking a seemingly good dude like Nico in favor of a Ricketts clone is too Ricketts not to happen.

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 11/01/2026

Truly mixed emotions on the Bregman signing. I’m glad the Cubs aren’t crying “poor” for once. But damn. The whole trash can thing is not something I can wipe from my mind. Gross. Though I suppose an inveterate cheater is better than continuing to play someone who thinks Charlie Kirk is a martyr.

120

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 10/01/2026

Bichette is younger and doesn’t have the stink of sign gate / trash can lollapalooza on him. Surely a SS, even a limited one, can convert to a serviceable 3B.

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 07/01/2026

Congrats. The first year is a bear, so 150 days is a hell of an accomplishment.

Less than a year ago, I was a simple nerdy baseball fan. Then @razzball.bsky.social gave me a chance to write a few things, which was cool in itself. In 11 days, 9 months since the ride started, I’ll have my own weekly column: “Zen and the Art of Fantasy Baseball.” At the Razz. Whoa.

And she did it multiple times just to make everyone sure beyond doubt she’s not that great with the “American” (which I’m sure was spoken by Jesus).

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 03/01/2026

I kind of think their plan is to finish second on good FAs, and then to make sure that it’s widely publicly known that they finished second. This makes it looks like they’re shopping, but they’ve shown me enough to assume they’re not really serious about improving the roster in any significant way.

At what point do these people become aware of their unironic carnivalesque nature toward every aspect of their public lives? I wonder how ridiculous their private lives look if this is the “sane” version they let the public see.

I’m excited to be able to cheer for Willson Contreras again. The Cards’ years were tough.

For me, it was birds. Once I realized I now looked forward to sitting on my porch and watching birds at the feeders (of which we of course have several), I had to come to terms with never being cool or interesting again.

Congrats, 2 years is huge. In many ways, the second year is harder than the first (at least that was my experience). You deserve to be proud!

Watching the Yankees lose never gets old. Just a few more outs… If only the Dodgers would lose from time to time…

Man, you’ve had some bad coffee! Roasted butthole is, well, vivid. Most popular coffee does suck mightily, but I love a good, strong cup of the good stuff. Don’t get too drink anymore, so gotta find flavor somewhere.

It’s just strange to me that his Ks are nowhere to be found. He wasn’t exactly expected to be 11 K/9 or anything like that, but 2-3Ks a night is definitely not what I expected. I’m hoping in the offseason he figures that part of his game out to help him offset some of the regression surely coming

Parenting is hard. Attended a Unitarian Universalist church for years. Joined with a kid on the way and wanted him to have community but also the ability to think freely. Both kids have freely decided to leave UU behind of course. 1 atheist (no surprise), 1 Muslim (surprise!). Our 1 job: love them.

010

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 21/08/2025

No surprise there. If Weimer is picking him there, I suppose that makes me feel better about wanting to get Adames on any discount that ends up showing up 😅. I’d be surprised if Adames consistently goes that high when the masses start drafting.

020

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 21/08/2025

Thanks! Adames went earlier than I thought he would, but then the players in that draft are crazy good of course.

110

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 21/08/2025

I’m working on a piece discussing MI draft values I think are going to be nice to grab, and Gunnar was definitely high on that list. I’m also talking about Witt, Adames, and McLain. I assume Witt got picked maybe mid-1st and that McLain hasn’t been drafted yet. Has Adames been drafted yet?

110

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 21/08/2025

Yeah, I read that book maybe a decade ago, and it still sits with me. In addition to the obvious emotional impact of the girl’s story, Allison nails parts of the South with her setting and description of characters both major and minor. I’ve read her stuff pretty religiously since.

Not sure the Cubs plan to ever win again… Seriously, has the clubhouse gone bad? Jed pulled a Jed at the deadline and did almost nothing to the one area that had to be fixed for the Cubs to have ANY chance of success in the postseason. No chance of making a run now. So has the team just quit?

000

ADHamley @adhamley.bsky.social · 11/08/2025

I definitely try to ignore the BABIP-fueled players. Hot streaks and cold streaks are easy to ignore with veteran players in their prime, but I have a little more trouble just rejecting outright if it’s a young player who has been struggling but is now hot or if it’s a 32+ older player gone cold
