But doesn't this just mean that the problem is an industry that chases eyeballs rather than chasing prestige for high-quality reporting? How was it in the days of Cronkite and Morrow that audience preference didn't determine coverage?

Alas, you are going to be disappointed. There is no way good-faith politicians claim 2/3 of Senate seats, so impeachment can happen, but not removal from office. We'll be lucky if Dems get 51 seats in the Senate. My fear is that unrealistic expectations lead to disappointment and cynicism.

Many of us don't but the media sure does. And that is how all of this has been enabled. We have been let down by mainstream media from TV to newspapers to radio to magazines since Trump came down the escalator and they resisted using the word "lie."

Barbara Lee was my representative. I was proud of her then, and I'm proud of her now. I feel like she voted in a way that represented the values of her constituents.

This was the best media response to 9/11. It balanced the anger and grief and fear and confusion, and somehow made them funny and warm. This is an issue for the ages not because it captures the mood of the Nation after 9/11, but because it captures basic human experience in the face of terror.

There is every reason to believe that Trump will pardon a large percentage of his staff and appointees. I worry that Democrats oversell what they can do (so their supporters become disillusioned and the cycle repeats). Rather than criminal, they need to talk about civil consequences.

One way I heard it that I like is that dogs spend their entire lives absorbing your pain and sorrow, and then it all comes back in one day. But also found that a lost pet doesn't diminish one's capacity for love, it increases it.

Part of the reward for investors and entrepreneurs is that they take on risk with their money, so are due a payout when the risk pays off. But then they shift as much risk as they can off of themselves and onto workers and suppliers and consumers who have no payout for shouldering that risk.

From the very beginning there were two words that should have greeted every statement from Donald Trump. "Prove it." Instead, we got breathless repetition of his latest mean-spirited fiction, along with people with very serious voices debating its meaning.

Yeah, is it "Contempt of Congress" really criminal if Congress is thoroughly contemptible.

Not only did she make the decision to produce Star Trek, it was a huge risk for her to do so. All the other studios had turned Roddenberry down. And, sadly, it likely doomed Desilu. As hard as it may be to believe today, the original Star Trek was not a great success until it hit syndication.

It is about the only positive thing I can say about the current Administration. By giving republicans everything they've wanted. Trump is revealing just how horrible those policies are. Drown the baby indeed, voters are starting to realize they need the babies they've been promising to kill.

There is potential in this moment. Trump has given republican voters everything the republican party argued for decades. They could make their arguments because they knew the sane party, Democrats, would stop them. Trump just does it, and we see the disaster. Alas, I have no faith they will learn.

Of course I 100% support this effort, but we need to be cautious in talking about this. Realistically, that plan will not succeed because it would be filibustered, vetoed, or sabotaged by the leadership in Texas. Who will people blame for the failure? The guy who was saying he had a plan for it.

It's important to remember that campaign promises are statements of values, not promises of accomplishments. None of this has a chance of becoming law under Trump, or even get to his desk unless the Democrats get a 2/3 majority in the Senate. Don't vote him out when this doesn't happen in two years.

And NOT because they're all Democrats who hate Trump, but because they would know this would be a non-partisan, non-political event celebrating the history of the nation.

Alas, he was playing a different game than what was needed. We were failed by the old guard, honorable as they are, because they could not see how the ground had shifted. We didn't need slow pitch with soft gloves, we needed hardball with bare hands.

Mueller was done with his report before Biden was President. That was part of the problem -- with Bill Barr in charge, a sanitized version of the Mueller Report was released that papered over any wrongdoing and continues to provide "justification" for the claims the investigation was a hoax.

But to fit in the Disney model, the Queen has to die to launch the princess into her adventure. Does that make Ripley the Princess?

"...fueled by BELIEF that government no longer works or delivers for people." A belief aggressively pushed by a political party that benefits from cynicism and anger. Government still works when republicans get out of the way and let the people who actually want to help do what needs to be done.

Since Bush Senior, each Republican president has managed to be worse than the last. When Trump left office I wondered who would possibly be the next Republican president to carry on the tradition. I should have known that no one can out Trump Trump – except Trump himself!

Both Mueller and Garland thought we were living in a different decade. They thought it was of paramount importance to preserve gentlemanly norms when what was called for was protecting the country at any cost. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Don't forget they also claimed to have a foolproof plan to bring the price of those eggs down in no time -- there was no need to ask for specifics because they said it with such confidence.

If journalists had asked Trump for proof of anything at all since he began running in 2015, we would not be in the situation we are now. Proof is only required of Democrats -- and then it is treated with skepticism. Republicans are free to spout any "fact" they like without consequence.

A thought I keep coming back to is that Trump is not the source of our Constitutional Crisis. The Constitution lays out clear directions to how to deal with Trump. The crisis is caused by Republican congresspeople who won't even resist and investigate, much less impeach and remove Trump from office.

I'm a Californian, but I love Chicago. We've got to include Illinois. Or maybe we just take a page from gerrymandering and draw a really interesting border that includes the major (and blue) cities. Of course then the new country, Jesus Land would have no significant sources of income (maybe oil?).

The best part of this for me is that if someone uses a fake SSN they are paying into the system and not taking anything out. It means exactly the opposite of what he's saying. Could we get some people in power who have better than a first-grade understanding of how the government works, please?

I have to disagree. Sure, these folks betrayed the country, but so did every Congressional Republican who just rolled over and forgot their oaths to the Constitution.

I give you the real founder of this feast, Mitch "Moscow" McConnell who was able to accomplish in a few years what the entire Soviet Union could not in the decades of the Cold War. All it took was a singleminded focus to put party over country at every turn, and an utter lack of honor and integrity.

The stupid dripping off this idea is as thick as molasses. I can only hope that he actually knows this is ridiculous and is trying to increase his visibility in the MAGA world. I'll leave it to others to decide whether it's worse to be morally vacuous or have the intelligence of a fruit fly.
