The local library has me feeling old. I'm so used there being a front desk to get reserved books and check out. Not kiosks and librarians trundling around with carts. Librarian handed me the book and I just tried to walk out like an alien. *sigh* Im sure Murderbot would understand my struggle.

I got to go to the High Museum in #Atlanta for the first time during their sensory-friendly hours. Really beautiful pieces (some of the oils from the 18th/19th c looked 3D, I swear). The floors creak like mad but overall a very chill experience to share with someone. #art 🎨

Cardamine hirsuta aka bittercress is non-native/ invasive to the Americas and very weedy — but it's just so stinkin' cute! It loves cool, damp soil and can be put in salads (peppery flavor). It's seeds can launch up to 16 ft away. Many insects feed on the flowers in the spring. 🌱🌸

Don't Think About It

Bombs are dropping in Palestine and those who look up and speak of planes falling from the sky suddenly die-
Don't think about it.

The mortgage eats an entire paycheck, the pantry is vacant, God forbid the doctor needs a blood test, but haven't you heard the economy is strong-
Don't think about it.

We asked for less police and more mental healthcare, so they cut down our forests and poisoned the already poisoned water and air-
Download this app and don't think about it.

We long for community among the blood-stained asphalt, refugees in a paved-over paradise, so they ban books in the name of prayers and safe thoughts-
The press is silent so don't think about it.

Buy, buy, buy — submit your desires to the AI, the all-knowing shadows on the wall, It will tell you all-
Except the truth, agree to disagree, don't think about it.

They laid it out, the Golden Path to the promised land, a distant city on a hill, college-marriage-kids-401k, then cut off our hands and feet and sneer at the delay-
The budget hasn't changed but the bills increase anyway, don't think about it.

And everyday you see a world insane, sliding toward some inevitable event horizon, a circus full of starving captives forced to watch bread dance and be thrown away while children scream outside the walls and women weep beneath the floor and men in suits jangle chains at everyone to remind us to sit still or else-

It's hot.
Hotter than normal, that's what they say, every day now, it's a new record, a high score, place your bets for which species dies next, you'll never guess how many people in a faraway land will suffocate and burn to death but first the stock index-
And as you sit in the swelter-churning CO² ritual of 5:17 pm on a Friday on a too hot March Day, wondering whether to roll down the window and breathe in the exhaust or turn on the AC and breathe in the guilt, you try not to think about IT all around you
But-

You think about it. All of it. The grinding crush of the past churning into the present, swallowing you, dragging you toward a place you don't want, don't want to go, make it stop, why won't it stop, MAKE IT STOP-

Traffic inches forward and so do you. You turn on a podcast:

The first trillionaire born from the ether of a billion hungry stomachs and groaning despair, self-made, self-actualized, king of kings, nothing remains, look on my profits ye mighty, if you enslave children and bribe officials you too can be just like me, he says through grinning teeth and hollow eyes, painted over with dollar signs.

Hands gripping the steering wheel,
Swallowing dryness,
Stomach fading into serene nausea and manic bliss-
You think.
