Also, I'm very jealous of so many of the stunning hotel room city vistas I've seen on social media. The view from my room is less... distinctive.

There's so much to say about this innovative, shocking, and emotionally powerful production — but who could say some of this better than the brilliant dynamo behind this revival, Vanessa Stovall, whose recent SCS blog-post is well worth reading in full.

Combining sections of two ancient tragedies–two thirds of Aeschylus’ Agamemnon and one third of Seneca’s Thyestes, Tantalids tells the overlapping tales of the House of Atreus, as the ghost of Tantalus is summoned to watch the unfolding tragedies of the past and present (and future).

Classicists! It's just over a week until the annual AIA/SCS meeting, this time in San Francisco, and that means preparations are gearing up for the annual CAMP production. This year, CAMP is proud — and incredibly excited — to present "Tantalids: take ii," under the direction of Vanessa Stovall!

Only one more day until Gladiator II (and, this high-school theater kid is glad to note, Wicked!) hits the big screen across the US.

Up first, this funerary stele for a fighter named Danaos (Robert #293), the inscription to which reads: “Eorta, his wife, and Asklepiades his son set this up in memory of Danaos, second palus, Thraex. After nine combats he departed to Hades."
A funerary stele representing a typical family scene of man and son, reclining on a couch, accompanied by a woman (mother/wife) seated on the right, and a dog sitting below. Besides the central frame are 9 circles, representing crowns/victories in the arena.
