Andy Burnham said in August that he would not create political & economic turmoil by calling an early election. He said it other times as well The political donation to Reform in preparation for an election, makes it look like he’s increasingly disbelieved about that promise

When I got stuck at the airport yesterday, I thought it likely the Air Traffic Control problem was due to a Russian cyber attack. Interesting to hear that it probably wasn't, we are able to make a mess of things all by ourselves.

You could save £200+ a year on your energy bills by fixing now. October price cap is forecast to rise to around £1,729 — but there are cheaper fixed deals around - worth checking around. And with another rise possible in January, is it time to fix?

The problem with our water companies and regulation revealed Spain is hotter, drier and has fewer people than England but has around 28 times the reservoir capacity Spain: 56 billion m³ England: 2 billion m³ Britain’s water problem isn’t that it doesn’t rain enough. It’s what we do with the water

Why has Burnham’s reaction to climate damage, wild fires and lack of water been the rather underwhelming possibility that he might ban disposable BBQs? www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Hot topic: why is Burnham so reluctant to talk about the climate crisis?
Extreme heat is harming wellbeing of ordinary people the PM champions, yet little has been said on the topic

Horrific and distasteful as it is amid the 1,000s who have been killed as a result of the war with Iran - the biggest factor in the USA moving to end the war, may be this graph. US petrol prices have risen 60% as a result of the war & Trump is feeling voters’ anger.

Ministers are drawing up plans to boost growth by exploiting loopholes in fiscal rules to increase borrowing. It’s like cheating on a diet by saying biscuits don’t count. It’s still extra calories and this is still extra spending and borrowing.

Last year the EU saw more than 1m hectares burn; this year could break that record Is it not a more accurate way of describing one of the drivers of these fires, not as ‘climate change’ which implies a benign adaptation-but ‘climate damage’ implying something we need to mend?

Whether you’re a supporter or not I think fair to say politically Burnham is strategically clever in quickly introducing (admittedly small policies) but ones that people understand and can be introduced fast. It controls the narrative and tells a story that Starmer never managed.

How do you raise tax without raising tax levels … this is how: 2 million more people will higher-rate tax than in 2023-24. The number of workers paying the higher or additional rate of tax soar as frozen thresholds pull hundreds of thousands more earners into the top tax bands just this year.
