It’s not just press freedom organizations like us. Everyone from Joe Rogan and Glenn Beck to Ted Cruz has had enough of Brendan Carr’s efforts to punish news that Donald Trump doesn’t like. They know that once Carr’s nonsense is normalized, the censorship won’t only be aimed at the left.

FWIW, LAPD is already largest chunk of LA's budget -- and they demand more money each year. Their pay rates are wildly high by comparison to departments in more expensive areas like, say, NYPD. LAPD officer is a six figure job you can get with a GED and fewer hours of training than a barber.

LA politics is WILD. Firefighter union wants a tax to fund firefighting. OK, typical public policy debate -- right? Then police union steps in to oppose as "an affordability issue." But, um ... over 80% of LAPD officers don't even live in the City of Los Angeles. Make it make sense. 🤔

Ghoulish how Trump crowd cheers at idea of millions of Americans dying. San Diego might be largest military population concentration in US. Over 100,000 on active duty there alone. Add LA and SD vets, families = maybe a million US military+dependents. So ... cheers for killing military families?

I haven’t noticed it in every city, maybe it’s more a Los Angeles problem? But it’s certainly a problem here. I’d say about 50% of my rides use it at a level where it stays on my clothes for at least few hours.

Maybe worse than hotels? Smelly chemicals in rideshares! When I sit in a stinky Uber or Lyft (multiple times per month) it can take 4-5 times through wash before stench of chemical sprays are out of my clothes. It's worse for others. Lawsuit claims over 1-in-4 adults have a chemical sensitivity.

Pool is multi-faceted, so parts still operating. Like when AP reporters banned for not saying "Gulf of America," AP photogs kept working. On 20% of days CNN is supposed to be primary TV pool (like today), the rest are refusing to fill in the gap. Hence this useless video from afar with no audio.

Constitution sees press as adversarial BY DESIGN. Pick your cliche: Speak truth to power. Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. They're NOT stenographers. If you want that, go where Trump announced the ban: on Truth Social... ... where he wants to charge press $100,000/month. Grifty.

If anyone says First Amendment doesn't clearly protect press access at White House: Hi! Welcome to America. You must be new here. Our First Amendment is 45 words. It covers 5 major rights, not just press. There are almost 250 years of Supreme Court interpretation to read up on! tl;dr? 1A applies.

Should the White House press corps boycott the president? It's a devilish choice. Look at this video. Was history made? Did he exhibit dementia? 🤷‍♂️ But also hypothetically, if outlets aren't critical enough on, say, a president's fitness to serve ... then what's the point? They may as well boycott.
131
Adam Rose @adamrose.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
Why does any of this matter? First-hand access allows press to inform public, which in turn can evaluate condition of functioning (?) government. Hypothetically, say an octogenarian controls nuclear codes and is exhibiting signs of dementia or can’t stay awake at work. That might important.

TV pooling gets most attention because it's visual, recognizable ... and expensive. There are 5 networks each taking on 20% of the cost on a rotating basis, and whatever content they get they must share. Including with more than 1,000 local TV stations around the country.
CNN participates in the five-network rotation for the primary television pool (also
called the network pool) and absorbs 20% of the costs associated with such coverage. When CNN
is the designated network pooler, CNN’s crew supplies the video and audio of the events involving
the President and other White House officials to the other four networks and, through them and
through pool distribution arrangements, to news organizations and the public. Among the
recipients of the pool material are the more than 1,000 local affiliate television stations across the
United States that receive the pool feed through CNN. CNN was traveling with the Vice President
on September 18, 2026, as the network pooler, the day the President announced the ban.

There are almost 1,000 people in WH press corps. Space is limited (ex: 49 seats in briefing room). It's cleanest left to press to sort out among themselves, specifically White House Correspondents Association. "Pool" means sharing resources. During pool, those given space must share any content.
Credentialed journalists with participating news organizations also make up the
White House press corps. Because the Oval Office, Air Force One, Marine One, and many
presidential events cannot accommodate the full White House press corps, a rotating group of
credentialed journalists—the pool—accompanies the President and shares reporting, video, and
photographs with the rest of the press corps and, through them, with the American public and the
world. Each day, the pool includes representatives from different media channels, including
television, print, radio, and digital outlets. The television component of the pool consists of two

slots: primary and secondary. The primary slot rotates among five news organizations that share
broadcasting responsibility, including CNN.2 The secondary slot rotates among a larger group of
outlets, including MS NOW. POLITICO has also belonged to the print component of the pool.

Adam Rose @adamrose.bsky.social · 21/09/2026
For those wondering about practical aspects of White House press credentials and press pool, here's a good example from lawsuit filed by CNN, MSNOW and Politico. Of course Constitution allows SOME limits, but NOT if content based like Trump is attempting. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
The Secret Service’s role in issuing hard passes is limited by regulation. In deciding
whether to approve an applicant during a background check, Secret Service officials must “be
guided solely by the principle of whether the applicant presents a potential source of physical
danger to the President and/or the family of the President so serious as to justify his or her exclusion
from White House press privileges.” 31 C.F.R. § 409.1. And the regulation prescribes the process
that must precede any denial: written notice of the factual basis for the proposed denial, an
opportunity for the applicant to respond in writing and to be heard, and a final written decision.
Id. § 409.2. Nothing in the regulation (let alone the First Amendment) permits a pass to be denied,
suspended, or revoked because of the content of a journalist’s reporting.
