This point was almost an aside in the discussion we had recently… but interesting coincidental timing.

I’ve spent the last couple of months doing some reflection on this practice. From the beginning this was a bit of an experiment. I spent 8 or 9 months exploring the possibilities of space architectur...

A really pretty poster for JAXA's Mars Moons eXploration (MMX) mission. The mission will include a small European rover, IDEFIX, developed by France and Germany. The rover is designed to explore the surface of the Martian moon Phobos.

Also interesting because the actual base design is so nebulous at this point that a mission ops posture on something like evacuate vs fight the fire will drive requirements on e.g. module proximity to EV airlocks, any safe haven, and feed the leak resources.

I wonder at what point the mentality shifts from looking for ways to evacuate to figuring out how to stay. I’m not sure what the analog is…. Antarctic? But part of me feels like a Moon Base is the place to start drawing that line differently, in part due to the complexity of return.

Enjoyed the prime time AGA readout at the start of this broadcast, having spent months getting it integrated into Blue’s MK2.

Not as far as I know, but obviously berths other modules, so maybe not a stretch?

It’ll be interesting to see… the “Core module” language is straight from Reef.

More of a sci-fi thing, but “life support” as a singular quantifiable thing that can dialed up or down, or uniformly fail after some amount of time.

Hi, I post things now! I’m going to start writing about my interests in architecture, design, space systems engineering, and maybe even space policy.

Most who know me know that I’m interested in the permanent, sustainable habitation of space. That means long-term habitats designed for a human experience that goes beyond merely surviving and accommodates well-being and quality of life the way architecture can on Earth.
