No fucking shit buddy. This is what we were trying to tell you.

Milo Yiannopoulos: "I didn't really understand the physical reality of how institutionalized the brutality is in America. The manner in which they arrest you, they put you in manacles, everybody is arrested like an MS 13 gang member.
It was physically degrading. It was frightening. I don't think I've ever been frightened like that before. I was weeping like an old woman for an hour. I wouldn't wish it on anyone."

I would like to see Ben of @thinkingbasketball.bsky.social made NBA commissioner to correct what he identifies in this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NWD... Recent video on traveling was great too. All in the context of still loving the modern game. Just wanting it to be its best.

Made my first chocolate chip banana bread tonight. Doesn't really deserve to be called "bread." It's a dense cake. Will definitely make again, but probably with a little less chocolate chips

Trying to improve pen drawing - I've always felt more comfortable with paint and charcoal. But I'm starting to find some mark making that's fairly satisfying. Maybe still need to darken some shadows ... #art #ink #drawing

trying to draw more ... really my preferred medium is charcoal. I kinda just hack away when cross-hatching in pen and there's always some sloppy missteps.

We have a couple older Win computers that can't upgrade (one is over 12 years old and still quite capable) so with Win10 retirement, I'm testing Linux. Haven't looked at it in over a decade, but am really impressed. Linux Mint is super easy to move to from Windows. Nice stuff!

another #basketball video - single game shooting highlights of my boy on the Saturday before Easter. He was hot, literally not missing a shot (if we overlook a difficult put-back rebound that was blocked) going 5/5 from 3 with one long 2 for good measure. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFdH...

some of my boy's #basketball highlights - haven't made one of these videos in a few years, but he's thinking seriously about college ball, so we're going to need to collect more film. At 5'4" he's routinely the smallest guy on the floor, but hangs tough anyhow www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYIR...

I love screenshots, so I got some screenshot of a screenshot in my screenshot of a screenshot. Also, what a depressing kind of conversation we have to have these days

multiple screenshots starting on the X website of Matt Liles posting "Some people think process and procedure are empty, value-less formalities. They aren't. They're fundamental aspects of justice and the Western legal tradition"
Adrian Vermeule replies on X "Process is an aspect of justice in the tradition, but it isn't the whole of justice, nor is it an end in itself. Due process like all other law is only properly law when it is rationally ordered to the common good, as the tradition has always recognized."

that interaction is screenshotted and replied to by Andrew Fleischman on Bluesky, saying "'No person shall... be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law' is a much clearer and and more enforceable standard than 'due process shall be provided when rationally ordered to the common good'"
which is finally replied to, again on Bluesky, by Error Coram Nah, B saying "'rationally ordered to the common good' look a lot like 'arbitrary and capricious' in the light. Weird"

an old photo I stumbled on recently that made me chuckle - quite randomly realized the pepper shapes I was cutting looked very similar to how #thecure displayed their names in the mid 1990s. IIRC, Porl Thompson (miss that guy in the band!) was responsible for it and other design work at the time.

slices of a green pepper on a cutting board. The shape of the pepper slices can be arranged to roughly look like it spells 'cure' in a manner similar to how the alternative rock band 'The Cure' displayed it in the mid 1990s.

can't be said enough! When you poll Americans about what policies they support, stripped of loaded language and buzz terms, we are a progressive nation. We love socialist policies and well-regulated markets. Only tribalism and propaganda prevent people from embracing progressive politicians.

AI voice interaction is already scary good right now and getting better. Just tested the demo at this startup's site: www.sesame.com/research/cro... Quite natural, real-time interaction. We will be unable to tell the difference between human and bot on phone calls, podcasts, videos ...

meme I generated based on others' ideas - @davidleavitt.bsky.social juxtaposed Musk/Trump with Darth Maul/Sidious and @bradsprigg.bsky.social suggested Grima Wormtongue / King of Rohan a more apt fit. I agree.

I think it's been true for about four years now: the team most clearly standing in the way of the #celtics winning the NBA championship is the Celtics themselves. Glad we got one last year at least but it's hard watching them give away so many games this season

happy 100th birthday (yesterday 12/7/24) Grandpa in-law. A WW2 veteran, all-around great guy that I hope lives forever. I never knew my own grand-dads so marrying into a family of long-lived was a blessing. Even got to meet my wife's great grandma a few times before she passed

fascinating graph by NYT (good on you for the graph but still, eternal shame for your democracy-threatening both-sides-ism) showing Republicans are absolute imbeciles in their views, believing the economy is magically great under GOP president and utterly awful under a Democrat

infographic "Public opinion on the U.S. economy" showing the percentage of either Republicans or Democrats who find the economy either fairly good or very good between the years of 2016 to 2024. Republican sentiment leading up to Trump's inauguration hover around 10% and then swings dramatically up over 95% for the bulk of the presidency, until the stock crash of the Coronavirus pandemic when it dipped dramatically to about 30% but rapidly climbs back over 70% and crashes again dramatically below 25% after Biden wins the presidency.

The Democrat line shows less dramatic reaction to presidencies, moving from 75% to 50% slowly from 2016-2020 and crashing dramatically to near 0% after the Coronavirus stock crash but returning to just above 50% over the early period of Biden's presidency and fluctuating between 45%-65% until the end of 2024.
