After years of talking myself out of it I got some tiny Chinese teawares. It's so cozy and calming - easy to re-steep and drink tea all day.

I don't want to take a break from rigging my Live2D because I want it to be done, but taking a break for a trip let me have fresh eyes in a way that even a weekend doesn't. 🌄 I am scared of things I have probably done wrong and don't even know I will have to fix, but I am moving forward. 🌅

No Live2D updates because I went on my first vacation in like five years - to Toronto! 🍁 Met with friends and many nice people 👋, ate many good foods 🥟, went to the aquarium 🦈, museum ⚱️, many small cute shops 🔮, cheered for the Blue Jays ⚾🍻, survived being lost in union station 🚇.

So BL4 uses 50% CPU just sitting at the main menu screen (wtf) 💀 but somehow did not crash on me once while playing even if fps did shit the bed at times 🐌💩🤎 1440p with a Ryzen 9 3900X (6yo) and 3070 (5yo) on unadjusted Medium settings.

just a crusty no production WIP of Live2D Head XY. All elements have only been adjusted in a very "flat" way, so I will be giving the eyes more depth and fixing them glitching off the face in future iterations.

Also, for all my crying about being so slow for spending a month on eyes I guess I made about 72 main forms that are made from the layering of about 288 forms that break down to about 450 forms if you go by individual texture. 😳

the variety of lil faces I can make with the VBridger mouth is really stunning. 👄💖 I've done all the shapes except Mouth X (and possibly some lil physics). (I did VBriger with NVidia Beta, not iPhone, so no tongue out or cheek puff for now)

It took me 4 days to do the first 15 mouth forms. 2 days to do the next 15. and 2 days to do the final 24. ... so I do seem to be getting faster. 🐇 Still need to finish the Shrug and Pucker forms (mostly done) and do Mouth X (not started).

VBridger Funnel mouth forms done pretty quickly! Spent so much time experimenting with the default VBridger model that my face hurt. 😵 I will probably transfer the 1.5 Mouth Open shapes I made to be Press shapes instead since they represent pulling the lips back from a fully opened jaw position.

I've thought I might like to pursue rigging commissions, but I worry I won't be able to provide value. Trying not to despair, but to meet the challenge and think about how I can adjust the process to meet a budget. I also need to work more on graphics portfolio things.

Read a comment on a video about Live2D mouth forms from someone saying they were intimidated, but that it only took them an hour to make the forms. I know I'll get faster with experience - it's already happening - but it has taken me an hour or more to make each form. X___X

omg and i still managed to forget to active the overlapping tooth for the smile form. 😭 whatever, it will be there. I must have forgot when messing around the the alternate pointy tooth set (which I gotta learn how to make an animated toggle for). 🦈

Also, I gave in and got the #Live2D 5.3 beta to make use of new advanced blend modes. 1. eye inner iris lights now better match the original art plus have a nicer shadow color using Color Dodge. 2. face shadows better match original art and blend more nicely using Darken.

PS, yes I modified the teeth from original art 🙏 I hope they do not look too bad. I've seen a lot of vtubers do "one peeking fang" design element, but I am actually missing one IRL so I just felt a personal connection with it. ^^

I actually already did the eyebrows while I was making this quick #Live2D preview XD So onto mouth. 💋 I've learned a lot and am getting faster and better at pre-planning to not waste time, but I think mouth will still be quite a trial. 🏋️💦

Was animating eyebrows and thinking about how much of art is feeling. I know the eyebrow is right when it makes me catch a feeling, when it activates my mirror neurons. I made a lot of faces and looked up quantified data on microexpressions, but the ultimate test is still the act of feeling.

Was freaking out a little because my cmo3 file ballooned to like 125MB, doubling from two days ago. Found out the "snapshots" I thought I was deleting were still being retained. File down to 8MB now. 😂

All of the Physics ones are blendshapes. I added the squint for VBridger. (I didn't do the > cheek highlight params yet, but will) My first version of the eye I didn't use physics at all, didn't understand how to set them up. Now almost every part is interacting with physics.

Sigh... I'm sure there are art prodigies out there who painted like a da Vinci or O'Keeffe the 1st time they picked up a brush, but for most of us, it is a process of doing it a LOT and not giving up. And the rewards of seeing those incremental improvements feels better than I can possibly describe.

I mirrored the eye in Live2D and now I'm working on making them sisters, not twins. Was ready to move on to eyebrow, but there was some derp to take care of. 🤪 I've seen many tutorials where one eye is made and mirrored but not sure I'd do it that way again.
