The 134 with Matt Renshaw is the first time in Nathan Lyon's 144-Test career that he has been involved in a century partnership - his previous best was 87 with Mitchell Starc, also against SA, at the WACA in 2012.

Pretorius reached his century after just 8.2 overs of the innings and on 154* at the end of the 15th he was still on track - but just a single in the 16th and two off the 18th put him behind the pace, and needing 19 off the last over for the double proved out of reach.

Ali Brown, remarking on his feat of scoring double centuries in all three English domestic competitions then extant, commented "It would take something pretty special in the 20 over competition" (which was then a hypothetical future concept). Lhuan-dre Pretorius has just come pretty close to that.

We'd need to check, but with Kadowaki-Fleming, Yamamoto-Lake, Ito-Davis, Shirai-Patmore, Sakurano-Thomas, Hara-Hinze and Sugaya-Slater, Japan may have international cricket's most hyphen-laden line-up. They put the Dutch trio of Dulfer-Keijzer, Batenberg-Venturini and Koppe-V-Dishoek in the shade.

The pace-heavy nature of SA's attack in their first few years after readmission gave Richardson a curious record: he is the only wicketkeeper in Test history whose first 100 dismissals were all catches. Jos Buttler came close to equalling him - he took 91 keeper catches before his only stumping.
